Day Three - Draft Day Discussion

That’s such a terrible pick. Gentry could have been had as an UDFA probably. He’s nothing but a blocker.

I don't think you would be happy with any pick.

Not true, I loved the CB pick in RD 3. I would have loved the safety Thompson from alabama. I would have liked Moreau. I just think Snell didn't need to be picked there. There were better players and bigger needs

I largely agree in that if I need a RB, 2-4 is the range I would look, but given what the Steelers already have at the position I do not see the combination of need and value.

I would have rather used the pick on a developmental player at OL or defense.

I think they are going to shotgun defensive guys in the sixth round... high risk high reward guys... get one to pan out right and you are in really good position

They must really be expecting Ola to make some type of year 4 James Harrison jump in year two. ???

No move back up and get Walker, so Dupree can leave. Won’t happen just wishful

Guess armchair GM’s knew Mack Wilson was a stud and 5 rounds of picks were wrong

Great GM's know to add strength to strength if the right player is there. I have zero issues with having three capable backs in that room, given injuries etc. Who could forget games in the 2nd half of the season where Connor seemed winded in the 2nd halves of games? Samuels is more of a gadget guy they can move around, h-back etc, now your have two solid, powerful runners in Connor & Snell. After losing LeVeon, our RB room is as solid as ever, with all three backs in their early 20's. I love it.

In the Patriots game, Samuels seemed like more than just a gadget guy to me.

Adding to strength doesn't make much sense, given the other areas on the roster that could use help.

Are you convinced the Steelers could not have added similar RB depth later?

Gentry had a ****** combine, though he tested better at his pro day.

That’s when Gentry’s stock started falling after he ran a 4.91 in the 40. At the Wolverines pro day in mid-March, he improved on that time, posting a 4.66 and a 4.70 but the damage might already be done.

Tight end Zach Gentry was the only top U-M prospect that took part in testing drills on Friday, running another 40-yard dash after turning in a disappointing 4.9-second time at the NFL combine.

One evaluator in attendance said Gentry ran in the 4.7s on Friday, and Gentry said he was clocked as low as 4.66 seconds.

"I’ve been pretty pissed off the last couple weeks about my combine 40 time," Gentry said. "More pissed off that I knew I could have (run better). This is more consistent with what I had been running, so I’m happy."

Gentry, who's projected as a Day 3 pick, said teams downplayed his combine 40 time.

"When you watch me on tape, everybody was assuming that I was going to run faster than a 4.9," he said. "I talked to several teams after that, that were like you don’t look like a 4.9 guy on tape. So I think it just proves that I will be able to stretch the field with my size."

Jesse James' forty time? 4.83. ;)

They must trust their eyes on the tape on this kid and believe they can plug him in behind McDonald.

Meh id rather get Porter gustin or the Egbule guy from Houston in the sixth round... maybe both and see who works out

500 yards for a TE isn't horrible. Some had him rated higher than Mack or Oliver.

Steelers love them some tall TEs if you examine the draft you will notice there was a **** load of them shorter than ideal. I saw one site that had him as a round 5-6 prospect. And that is just off the top of my head. He has a solid.16 per ard average last year too.

We hate RBs that could maybe break off a 80yard TD. We don’t want to score that quick. We like those 20 yard max runs.

So you prefer us drafting Dri Archer?

Yeah, good call. Hollins still there also. I think any OLB can beat out Bud

Cant watch draft is make wilson still undrafted?

Yes Wilson is still undrafted...EVERYONE has passed on him, not just the STEELERS

Not liking our Day 3 strategy at all. Should have traded up in 4 to get a better play. Could have had a much, much better RB option in Hill instead of Snell who has little chance to make it. We have two guys that can gain short yards and can catch. He can't catch. The TE pick is iffy. Probably PS material this year. I absolutely would have traded up at least 10 spots in 4 using one of our 6th round picks and the 7th, if needed. We don't really need a RB so that was basically a wasted pick unless you are going to get someone with speed and versatility (like Hill) that can be a change of pace for what we have. We still don't have a speed guy in our backfield as a change of pace.

I like Snell....but I thought he would be there in the 5th. He's a Steeler now, so let's go!

next get Hollins and DL Albert Huggins

I love the Snell pick. People forget Steven Ridley got carries last year.

Actually what I expected so far....they double downed on the weak areas they brought free agents in to initially fill..

You know actually attack their weaknesses.

Then with Conner's injury past, they solidified depth. Replaced Jesse James.

Not every player I wanted, but the players they picked I can see why they did. And if it makes this team better, I damn sure am all for that.

Oh I didn't. Had no desire to see him back.

They can IMO kick Burns to the curb now too.
