Crisis in Venezuela update

When you lose your sense of humor, you open yourself up to stress, anxiety and depression.
Just my opinion, but it seems to be a trait of many on the left.
A bit of advice, it you don't like something, then just walk on by, and concern yourself with things you can actually control.
I dont find out amusing to threaten a peaceful country that minds its own business for no reason other than greed. The national security angle is pure BS. If China / Russia attempted to move on Greenland then maybe you could play the national security angle. I also believe if there was some serious threats we would be allowed to station troops there. I also think this would be political suicide for the GOP other than the trump nuthuggers.

This helps…send to a lib..

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference".

Nothing remains static in this world. How was the US shaped as we know it today? The Louisiana Purchase, The Treaty of Paris, The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, The Gadsden Purchase, The Alaska Purchase, etc.
Colonization and the Treaty of Kiel cemented Denmark's control of Greenland and apparently Denmark sold the Virgin Islands, who knew?

While I can't speak for those living in Greenland, I would think that life might improve as a US territory, through purchase not conquest.

And finally, you don't have to find something amusing and you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but there are plenty of people passing themselves off as comedians that I don't find funny.

Booted made a joke, getting upset about it won't change the world.

National security or taking what China and Russia have?
Trump meant what he said about making America great again.
National security may be just a perk.

Military action" doesn't mean a forceful takeover of Greenland, it means if russia/china makes moves to infiltrate, the US will be there to greet them.

While Russia and China have growing interests in the Arctic's resources and strategic waterways, current evidence doesn't show them
actively threatening Greenland with military occupation, but rather pursuing economic and strategic influence, with US President Trump recently raising alarms about their potential to take control, prompting Greenland's leaders to assert their right to self-determination. China invests in Greenland's critical minerals, while Russia focuses on Arctic resource extraction and shipping routes, but neither has military forces poised to seize the island; Greenlanders want to decide their own future, not be a geopolitical pawn.

Russia's Arctic Presence

  • Strategic Focus: Russia, as the largest Arctic nation, is heavily invested in the region for oil, gas, minerals, and its Northern Sea Route for trade.
  • Geopolitical Interest: Moscow views the Arctic as vital for its economy and security, but its recent rhetoric hasn't explicitly threatened Greenland itself, despite concerns about US actions there.
China's Interest
  • Economic Investment: China has invested in Greenland's mining sector, particularly for rare earths and other critical materials, recognizing its vast mineral wealth.
  • Potential Security Implications: China's economic activities raise concerns about its long-term strategic goals in the Arctic, though these are primarily economic, not military threats.

Trump is demanding all countries and their leaders to pick sides......he is using tariffs like a bully, and now has shown one card in his big deck with the handling of Venezuela. The reports of the operational success are stunning. This matters.

If the Russians or the Chinese decide they don't want to be aligned with the US, then it is natural, if very uncomfortable, to ask each and every other state who they choose to align with.

While the Germans tried to re-align the world order twice last century, the US was country building, and then they did the same in Japan and South Korea.....and then stopped. Yes, the American foreign policy has been about fuucking around and little success for the last 3 generations, but that seems to be changing.

The peace dividend since the end of the cold war has been hugely beneficial to China.....who weren't involved in any of the WWs or the nuclear threats for the ensuing 45 years. They have used the peace to make deals favorable to them at the expense of all others.

Countries like Mexico, Canada and most of the EU have done very little with global peace to strengthen themselves, choosing instead to greatly expand domestic and foreign welfare at the expense of their citizens. While the US has been somewhat similar, there is a measurable difference right now: immense military power and leadership.

Trump seems to want the United States of America to soon include all of North and South America, and Greenland. He is playing a real life game of Risk, and no one has yet impeded his plans.

Right now, while the country that has most loudly screams "Death to America" is revolting against its Islamic yoke, American media is focusing eyeballs on a one person in Minnesota, instead of presenting another clear victory of Trump's policies. Why?

The invisible other actor, the WEF, or the old rich families that have colonized the globe for centuries, is trying hard to divide American and western societies, because as Trump remakes the boundaries of peace, their old claims to profit off the backs of their colonies disappear. Sure, Trump is effectively re-colonizing, but he is doing it for at least 2 reasons: He is centralizing power in the US, and he can just do it. New rich families will emerge, eventually, but the hierarchy will point to the US.

As a Canadian, it is embarrassing that our political leadership is blind to this time of geopolitical re-alignment, and more embarrassing to see the relative decline in Canada's fortunes over the past generation.
Since Canada is already economically beholden to the US, the end result is clear already, but the ignorant leftists running Canada will need to learn the new reality quickly or face unfavorable terms, like Cuba is now.

It's about to get much more interesting....

I would be fine if we decide there is a need for a military presence in Greenland. That is not what Trump is saying though. He is basically saying sell Greenland to me or else. It is 99% about controlling their resources. Making America Great Again should not or does not need to involve Greenland. I do not think many Americans would support a forceful takeover of Greenland. If the people of Greenland want to be a US territory then that is a different story but that doesn't seem to be the case.

99% you say, what's the other 1%?

Perhaps Trump didn't really explain to you all that his America includes all the land between the North Pole and Antartica, including those islands nearby.

Manifest Destiny y'all.

On Venezuela, IMHO wrong execution of the right idea. If it was honestly about liberating a country and getting rid of a drug lord I would have been way happier if we would have gone in and killed everyone involved with that regime. stepped in and helped the country rebuild itself for a price. not actually run or control anything but go in as a business and rebuild their oil for a fee. Not a good look to not wipe out the cartel when you are talking liberation and after you just pardoned one of the biggest drug dealers of our time; the Honduran president.

On Greenland. If they want to be a part of America great we welcome you, if not leave them the **** alone. We already have a military base there and they have no problem with us putting as much military there as we want. as far as buying them? With What? have we forgot we are almost 40 Trillion in debt and can't even help our own country. Trump saying we can't have Russia or China as our neighbor. Hello dumb *** you can throw a rock from Alaska to Russia. and yes I called him a dumb *** I voted for him three times so I feel as a conservative I can call him out on what I think is bullshit anytime I want and whoever doesn't like it can **** all the way off.

One thing I seemed to have been taught growing up is this, I do not blindly follow ANYONE and no one is perfect and makes the perfect decision every time not even D. Trump. We have gotten so hung up on the left vs the right that we have forgotten that there is such a thing as right vs wrong.

I am a conservative always have been and always will be, but that doesn't mean I will follow or even agree with everything President Trump does or say's to be honest I think some of the **** he says is some of the dumbest **** I have ever heard and here is another truth, I originally voted for Ben Carson because I thought he was about a thousand time smarter then Trump.

I honestly do not get the blind loyalty to this man or any other man.

One last thing that may piss some people off is this. I get Good put herself in a bad position by her actions and she could have made better decisions but to make fun of someones death and make memes making fun of someones death is shameful because at the end of the day she was still someones mother, daughter and sister.

When I was actively in law enforcement making contact daily with people YES I wanted to make it home every day but I also wanted the people I interacted with to make it home. was it frustrating to have people yelling at you or shoving a phone in your face or reminding you that they paid your salary. I have dealt with the crowds and someone almost running me over, I have had people in my face and people spit on me. The one thing that should not only be expected but required is that we as law enforcement should be the ones acting like adults when others are not and de-escalate the situation. THAT IS OUR JOB. at the end of the day we are all someones son, daughter, mother, father, brother or sister and that was how I approached every encounter. Just as I didn't want my family mourning me I didn't want theirs mourning them.

By the way getting the **** out of the way and passing that moving car on to the next officer more often then not is the right decision, taking a life should be the very last resort because I will assure you this, if you have a soul and a conscious those faces never go away and neither does the question of "could I have done something else to change this outcome"

I'm off my soapbox now.

I’m not celebrating anyone else’s death and hope others don’t either, but I won’t feel sorry for the consequences of someone’s bad choices. I said the same thing since Jan 6th about Babbit.

Plenty of people are. Some of the memes are beyond shameful, just like the ones with Charlie Kirk. In that regard, it’s sad what we’ve become. Human life is becoming the least precious commodity this country has, and most of it boils down to political affiliation.

I don’t have too many questions about the actions of ICE that day, but it’s odd no one considers that she may have hit the agent by accident while trying to escape. Maybe she wasn’t TRYING to run him over or hit him with the car. Still, she should have followed their instructions. If she does that simple thing, she’s still alive and no one is speculating about her intentions.

Cool, but I would argue that China was very involved in WWII.

Mrs. Fan and I voted for Carson in the primaries, too. Got to meet him. Good guy, high integrity, but in hindsight, he would have been eaten by the swamp.

Not a huge MAGA guy, but Trump has done a good job, IMO. I don't follow him. I follow small government principles, and hate that there are no real small government candidates/ politicians anymore.

His idea of keeping China and Russia out of Greenland is good by me, but he is handling poorly. No way we should go in there militarily, unless invited. He seems to posture as if he gets to make the decision, and that is not very diplomatic. Not that we have to be diplomatic at.all times, but those one seems like a good time to be diplomatic.

@Tibs - this is the Venezuela thread.
Please check in here and advise @Litos how he is 100% incorrect and on the wrong side of history in his home state.

thanks.

I agree with this. Most of the memes posted are childish and shameful on both sides. I think i read that officer was drug by a car before so he may have been a little jumpy. The lady put herself in a terrible situation and paid the ultimate price. Almost all high profile law enforcement shootings could be prevented if people just follow directions.
