With the hiring structure that the Browns have in place, where the GM is going to have a HC and Head of Player Personnel already hired, do you really think Cowher or any other established candidate will take the GM position in Cleveland?

I am not a big fan of Tomlin by any stretch. I guess my point is that the media and even some here to a lesser extent, people are singing Coughlin praises. He had 2 great seasons, playoff wise. Same for Tomlin I guess. However, this team has never really bottomed out with Tomlin. 7 winning seasons in 9 years and no losing seasons. In contrast, Coughlin has had six winning seasons, 4 losing seasons and 2 at .500.

I would like to see playoff improvement just like you, but I think in the grand scheme of things, maybe we don't have it quite so bad in Pittsburgh. Could be better, but certainly could be worse. Guess we will see on Saturday night.

I was gonna say, the Browns are the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NFL but they're even worse than that.

That would have had merit pre-2012, but now? Not even close ... the Buccos have made the post-season 3 straight seasons and have a lot of very good young talent.

When was the last time the Clowns made the post-season 3 straight years? Hell, when was the last time the Steelers did that?

Baseball has no salary cap, while every other major sport does. The lack of a salary cap means that Pittsburgh - in a market ranked among the bottom-5 in major league baseball, with a team that generates less annual revenue than all but a few other teams - cannot possibly, ever, have a payroll that rivals those of teams in huge markets, with massive television contracts.

Teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, Mets, Red Sox, and Angels.

The Pirates spend their money well. They get tremendous production with vastly less financial resources than their competition. They are now a model for baseball teams, and that is why ESPN rated the Pirates as the best-run franchise in major league baseball.

His name may come up, but not likely because Bill has any interest. He isn't going to mess with his legacy in Pgh to join in any way with the Browns.

Yes, however, Coughlin took over an Expansion team in Jax. They went 4-12 in his first season, then made the playoffs 4 years in a row. That to me is impressive coaching and proof that Coughlin can improve teams that range from very bad, average or good, and make them better!

Coughlin did not inherit a super bowl loaded team as say Gruden or Tomlin did and win a ring. He took over a 4-12 New York Giants team and won two rings during his tenure.

Coughlin didn't inherit a horrible team in NY. They had been in the playoffs the year before they went 4-12. What they needed, was an upgrade at qb. The same year, the Steelers went 6-10. Did we have a terrible team? NO! We also needed a qb. Both teams got the upgrade that offseason. The result? 4 Lombardis between them in the next 8 seasons. Coughlin did a good job in NY, but it's not like he went in and took over the Browns, or the Tampa, and Cincy teams that Dungy, and Marvin Lewis took over. Coughlin would actually be a good guy to go take over Buffalo. That's a team that is fairly close to contending, and could take the next step with a guy like that. Cleveland is just such a disaster.
