Congratulations Penn State!

Was at the Mich st game. Great game. Was home for Turkey day. Can't wait to retire and come back to pa permanently. Florida is way overrated

I love Florida. It took 20 years to embrace it completely, but it beats freezing your *** off, state taxes, pristine roads, very few tolls, fabulous offshore fishing, tons of sunshine, wonderful winters I wear shorts year round...it hit 85 today and sunny..bliss. I do miss the first day of buck and trout season in pa. If I ever become independently wealthy before they chunk me in the dirt, I'll have a summer /fall house in Pittsburgh and a winter/spring house in Florida

Tape...not to jump ahead because PSU is not done this year. I don't have the roster or depth chart ready but I think starting (C) Gaia is the only senior PSU loses on Offense next season, so real quick do you think Godwin/Blacknall or Hamilton jump to the NFL? Did Michal Menet or Will Fries take a complete redshirt (I know there was talk of Fries being yanked) and does Menet go to Center next year? I believe this OL might be one of the potentially most dominant PSU OL's ever in the next two years (McGovern is getting great protection reviews as a Freshman). Lastly on the O, McSorley has played so great recently...is there really a chance Tommy Stevens has pass him next year?

On D...they only lose Schwan, Bell and Golden...do you expect the Lion D to be even better next year?

Godwin may leave. He's had back to back strong seasons and they have some young guys like Irvin Charles and Deandre Thompkins who are ready to emerge so maybe Godwin sees his numbers go down a bit next year if he stays. I'm not in draft mode yet so i don't know how deep this WR class will be. If he does leave though, PSU will be fine.

I can't see Blacknall or Hamilton leaving. Blacknall just hasn;t played enough. Hamilton is not very fast so his production has gone down as they have better options. I doubt Hamilton makes it in the NFL unless he makes it as a great special teamer.

Menet and Fries are redshirting. Reports are that Menet is working at C and will take over there next year. He will be their most talented OL so my guess is that they want that strong presence at C but he could play elsewhere if there is a need.

This year the OL is getting by because the scheme has defenses on their heels. We have seen Barkley run into walls when the defense decides they are going to take away the run. Next year, the OL should be able to dictate more.

McSorley has played great but you can see that he's limited. He has a low completion %. That's because he throws deep so often and his lack of arm strength makes them jump balls most of the time. Stevens is good but there will also be competition from Jake Zembiec, who is redshirting, and Sean Clifford who will be a freshman next year. Both are 4 star recruits who competed in the Elite 11 QB competition.

I don't think McSorley will be able to hold off all 3 of them, particularly Stevens and Zembiec who have experience in the system.

If PSU does get in the playoff and ends up playing Bama, you'll see why McSorley is so limited.

I do expect the D to be better. They have a bunch of young talent that is getting better each week and they will add more next year.

This year is like house money for Penn State. It was expected that this would be the rebuilding year as Franklin's recruits get their first playing time and the roster is finally close to whole. It looks like PSU is going to be the beast of the east again.

The rankings came out tonight. PSU is seventh, OSU is second, Michigan is fifth. Kirby Hocutt, the chairman of the playoff committee, said that Penn St., and Ohio St. were not close to each other. Penn St. is not going to jump OSU, and probably won't jump Michigan if Washington loses to Colorado.

I hope you remember this the next time Tomlin gets ripped for losing to the suddenly powerful Miami Dolphins.

Sure, the next time Tomlin loses some early season games when he has a rookie QB making his 3rd start, 2 converted DL playing OL, a new offensive coordinator installing a completely new system, 4 new starters on the DL with 0 starts between them, all 3 starting LBs injured, 3 new starters in the secondary, and a new defensive coordinator.

Penn State or Wisconsin will absolutely jump Michigan. They set it up that way. Michigan should have no chance at the playoff. There is no way in hell they will put in 2 teams from the same conference and neither one is the Champ.

Ohio State is in. The Wisc vs Penn State winner will be in if Wash loses. It's possible PSU/Wisc could get in even if Wash wins. Wash does not have any big wins. PSU/Wisc will add another top 7 win to their resumes. If Wash struggles, or if the win is ugly, they could get left out.

You're missing the point. I'm talking about equating Miami with Penn St. You basically were saying not to judge a team based on it's early struggles, yet people are still crying about the Miami game, even though they haven't lost in two months. You'd think we'd lost to the Bears at home, not to a playoff contender on the road.

And in your analogy, that would equate the Steelers with Michigan (puke). Michigan should have blown out Penn State early in the year because PSU didn't have their act together. If they played now, it would be a much different game.

If the Steelers lost to Miami now, it wouldn't bother me as much, but they should have beaten the confused Miami team they faced early in the year.

Once again, no sense of humour...

Let me try to grasp your "logic" (put in quotes because you don't seem to actually have any).

You take a shot at me, asserting all of PA is glad I left.

I respond by listing the things I surely don't miss about living in PA.

You counter with assertions (mostly false) of things you think suck about FL.

I counter by refuting your faulty claims, with accuracy and truth.

At what point did I lack humor vs. at what point did you possess it? I'd really like to know. Were you lucid and clear thinking when you came to this conclusion?

I am in complete agreement, and, like you, if I was filthy rich (not just semi-rich) I would have a house up in PA for the summers. Most people who bust on FL's shine don't really know it. They usually express extreme ignorance (as Cope did in this thread) from only knowing it in a cursory and perfunctory fashion. You have to actually move out of PA to really grasp some of the negatives in a full manner. Even people who live in mud, who have to walk 2 hours every day for clean water don't know their surroundings suck. The common errors people make in dissing FL are:

1.) One area of FL is like ALL areas of FL. FL is a huge state and quite diverse, even in very short distances. For instance, I live east of the intercostals. And if I drive just a few miles inland, it's like I am a whole different state, if not country. It is incredible how much diversity there is in such short distances. The differences between the beaches area and J-ville are night and day. North East FL, east of the intercostals is nothing like Orlando, Miami, J-ville. Here, it truly is like living on vacation every day of the year. Like you, I wear shorts all year long, as well as sandals every single day. I can count on my hands how many days out of the year I wear long pants or socks.

2.) (related to 1) FL is only about Disneyland. All of FL is somehow related/similar to Disney, which is 85 acres. FL is 65,700 MILES. So, yea, umm, plenty of FL is not Disney.

3.) FL has a colossal amount of bugs. Yea, head into any deep woods and you may be eaten alive by mosquitoes. But where I live? We have like 1% as many mosquitoes as my parents' hood, which is just north of Pgh. You go outside in the summer there, and within 15 seconds you will have 20 of those Mother Fers sucking your blood. I would move from there due to that alone. Yea, we have occasional **** roaches (mostly in the garage, rarely in the house), but nothing a simple trap won't fix within a few days. Up north, in Erie, we had a massive amount of those centipedes and we found them far more creepy than anything down here.

house-centipede-buss_488x326.jpg

4.) FL is always unbearable hot and uncomfortable. This is just based on personal preference. Me, I'd rather have some hot summer days than deal with snow, freezing rain, ice, all that bull ****. Trying living in the snow belt, with lake effect snow storms for years and come talk to me. I went outside today to get mail, and it was 85 and just beautiful. I said to myself, "How can I complain when I live in a place like this?" I'm not gonna lie: July through Sept. is hot. My first year down here took some getting used to. But that's why you have a pool in your backyard or bike to the ocean. That heat makes those acts very pleasant. But that doesn't mean you will catch me at a Jags' 1 PM game in Dec (unless the Steelers are here). No thanks to sitting in that heat. However, once Oct. rules around, the game weather is delightful for the rest of the season.

5.) Old people are everywhere in FL. No, only in certain areas, usually in south FL. We have less old people in my town than when I visit PA.

6.) It's like a foreign country in FL, with so many Latinos. No. Just in south FL, for the most part. When I am in SFL half the radio stations (or more) are in Spanish. I don't know if we have even one Spanish speaking station around here.

Now, for the truth about FL.

1.) There is no state income tax. None. It's like an immediate pay raise. Do you know how nice it is to do your taxes and just not even having to look at paying state taxes? It is liberating. We got all the state $ we need by making tourists foot the bill, and our roads are 100% nicer than PA trash roads.

2.) The per capita of hot, hot women is much higher in FL. Up in PA, hot chicks are often bitchy, because they can be. Down here. they are often hot and sweet because there are so many here. We have no long winter months with heavy coats. Today was still bikini weather.

3.) People are just nicer to each other down here. That is a fact. Up in PA, shopping at Giant Eagle, half of everyone is grumpy *** and miserable. Here, I can strike up a conversation with just about anyone, while waiting in line at the lunch meat counter or whatnot. In PA, people act like you are insane for starting up a chat if they don't know you.

4.) Hurricanes are for real (as I found out last month). But in 15 years here, we only got hit semi-directly one time. In 2004, 3 came by but not at full strength. Most years, none impacted us. If you live inland, none will really be a big threat. But it doesn't matter if you live on the east cost of gulf side; any town on either side near the ocean is at risk. If they make their way to the gulf, they often take that right turn and hit the west side.

Not necessarily; the week we played them marked the 1st time they got their starting OL together, and it showed, manifested by the pounding our D took by their rushing game.

Somebody should tell Pop I live in Maryland. But that won't stop him from hating on PA. Neither will his ability to discern a tongue in cheek exchange of barbs over actual rancor.

It's probably why Ron, Spike, and Ark didn't have a problem with anything I said about FL since they understand my posts and have a sense of humor. Or better yet, understand my opinion doesn't mean poop, which I am equally fine with...

James Franklin hitting that recruiting trail. They are already getting committments for the 2018 class and they are going after big game. They already had the #1 DE committed. They just got one of the top TE prospects and a top QB today. The QB is from Georgia. He's 6'3, runs a 4.5 and his offer sheet had heavyweights like Georgia, Tenn, etc, but also included Northwestern, Duke, Navy, Harvard and Yale. So this kid must be pretty smart too.

Gee, I wonder how "Hack" might perform against that Alabama defense. Of course, the extent of his postseason resume includes big, important games like the Pinstripe and TaxSlayer Bowls. You remember the Georgia game, don't you, tape? You know, the one in which your idol produced an interception, three punts, and a field goal in his five drives before exiting? The one where McSorley (you know, the limited, weak-armed guy who is going to lose his job next season despite leading a young, injury-ravaged team into the top ten...and participating in the Big Ten title game even though they play in the same division as Ohio State AND Michigan) threw 2 touchdown passes and had a chance to tie the game on the final play?

LOL.

Cope, go easy on Pop. Obviously, he works for Fodor's.

Everything has already been addressed, don't need to repeat myself. MD is only one step better than Pennsyltucky.

It's south of the mason-dixon line, which puts them in the same category as Florida...

So you think McSorley will hold off all these highly rated QBs for his whole career? I don't. McSorley played 2 talented defenses this year. He only threw for 121 yards vs Michigan and that was a game PSU trailed all game and needed to throw. Against Ohio State, he only completed 8 passes, 35% completion and 154 yards.

I appreciate his leadership and how hard he plays but he's limited. I'm not going to pretend he's not. Penn State's OL is still not great. They have been getting by on play fakes. If they run into a defense that can stuff the run with their front 7, then play deep safeties to take away those deep jump balls, I think McSorley will struggle like he did vs Mich and OSU.

I'm concerned that could happen vs Wisconsin, but Wisconsin's offense isn't very good so even if the PSU offense is struggling, it can still be better than Wisconsin's.

.

I don't think PA is like that at all. I used to live in Indiana ( the state) and it was like that. Coming here, I think everyone is cool with eachother. I often talk to random people in line and such.

I don't get the hate for McSorley. He stands in the pocket, takes hits, and keeps on truckin'. Is he another Marino? No, but he is a player and has kept the Lions in games this season and he wins. His enthusiasm seems to be contagious too - the team seems to rally around him.

Yes. Yes, I do.

McSorley is now the all-time single season passing leader at Penn State. He's led the team to a 11-2 record in his first year as a starter, as a sophomore. He's won a division with two top five teams in it. He's won a Big Ten championship, putting up 38 points against a Wisconsin defense which had allowed more than 20 only once all season, setting records for yards and touchdowns while securing the game's MVP. He's a winner, a leader, and has great respect from his teammates.

Um, yeah. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say the guy's job is safe.

Jeez. I just started watching college ball this year, so I'll be the first to admit, I have no clue, but the amount of air that dude put under some of those balls ON PURPOSE tonight, totally disproves any arm strength issues I would think. I mean, the dude hit a ball that was what, 40 in the air? How often do you need to go more than 40 in the air in the NFL? ****, Brady has made a ******* living going 20 or less most times, and Montana before him, did it too.

As far as I'm concerned, just with what he showed in leadership tonight, he's the real deal. Just me opinion, we will see. (btw, not a PSU fan, don't really give a **** about college ball, but for entertainment that game was off the charts)

Joe

The fact is that Penn State now has the athletes at receiver who can make plays on these types of "limited" deep balls. That's why McSorley has enjoyed success, along with his mobility and leadership qualities. So I couldn't care less that he lacks the optimal "NFL arm strength" of his inaccurate predecessor, who currently holds the clipboard for the guy who holds the clipboard for that notably weak group of clowns who play quarterback for the New York Football Jets.
