Weird how a decent defensive scheme and coaching can make Mike Mitchell into a decent player. Something Tomlin and Butler couldn’t do. The scary thing is, Tomlin’s “speciality” is working with defensive backs.

I was thinking that last night... the guy everyone said absolutely has to go from last year’s team is still playing and contributing on a playoff team that just advanced to the divisional round and the guys we kept are doing what we’re all doing... sitting on the couch watching the playoffs at home. Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes.

Given the Steelers trouble replacing Polamalu and Clark, this doesn't seem surprising. Mitchell looked to be a player on the rise a solid FA signing. It's not like the other safeties they've drafted or signed have been strong players in the secondary. As you said, this can go back to the scheme.
