College Football Week 1

Oh .... and Pitt startin' out 3-0, now 3-4. Narduzzi must go.

No college teams in PA. worth a damn this year. How's Temple doin'?

I like Narduzzi, but this program isn't where it needs to be and is going backwards on the field. No sense waiting another year or two to make a change.

Yeah, I'm about done with Franklin and his Rah-Rah BS. If you can't get a team into the playoffs with Saquon Barkley, Miles Sanders, Mike Gesicki, McSorley and KJ Hamler on your roster you will never sniff one.

Franklin is great at getting the late lead, then ******* blowing it. Holy hell. I have seen enough of this **** to last a life time. At least Pitt just sucks they don't string you along teasing you.

I've never seen more mistakes in a game made by both Penn State's players and coaches. Turnovers, stupid penalties, and ridiculous in-game decisions...and they still had the game won with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter. Indiana was letting them score, and the ******* morons took the bait. How the **** can the head coach not make the entire team aware that you CANNOT score a touchdown when Indiana has one timeout left? You run the ball up the middle, if they're not going to tackle you, get the first down inside the 4, fall down, AND THE GAME IS OVER. For the love of God, even if they had taken four knees, Indiana gets the ball back inside their own 20 with 15-20 seconds left on the clock.

Absolutely inexcusable.

Oh Penn St...[emoji85][emoji87][emoji86]

I'm a PSU homer but can definitely acknowledge their issues. They had the game won and could wind the clock to nothing with Indiana needing 50 yards in 20 seconds and decided to leave clock and a single score to tie. PSU will never win with Franklin and his recruiting is starting to hit a wall.

18 Michigan at 21 Minnesota 7:30 ABC
was last year a fluke for Minn? Minn's best player WR Rashod Bateman opted out, but then he opted back in so he is playing. They also have QB Tyler Morgan returning. They lost their OC to Penn State but the offense shouldn't change much. Michigan will be breaking in a new starter, likely sophomore Joe Milton after Dylan McCaffrey (Christian's brother) got wise and entered the transfer portal. Michigan is inexperienced. Here's hoping MInn rows the boat over Harbaugh's stupid face.

Bwahahaha

The only thing that got boatraced was that Minny soda D!

I knew this could happen. I pointed it out. Lots of offseason changes and little practice time. Despite that, PSU did mostly control the game. 3 Missed FG, 3 turnovers. something like 10 penalties.

Their offense was built around Rb Journey Brown and unexpectedly last week some medical condition was found and he's out for the year. Then the #2 RB Noah Cain gets injured in the 1st quarter. Also, their planned #2 WR John Dunmore decided to transfer a few weeks ago. So you have a new offensive scheme and you are down to the #3 RB and some freshmen WRs.

I watched a bunch of bad football early in the season from other teams. LSU has looked like **** with new coaches and breaking in new starters. There are usually a few cupcakes to get tuned up but this year most teams had to jump right in with a conference game.

Despite all of that PSU did pretty much dominate most of the game. Heading into that last drive the total yards was something like 420 for PSU and only about 130 total for Indiana. PSU ran for 250 and Indiana just 41. You just can't have that many turnovers and penalties and expect to win against a decent team.

As for the call to take a knee or to run the ball at the end. It was the right call to run the ball. Indiana had a TO left and there was too much time to take a knee. Apparently Franklin did go over this scenario in practice and went over it again on the sideline. Here was his post game comment

"We went through that situation this week [in practice]," he said, "and we went through that situation on the sideline, and obviously we could've handled it better. What we wanted to do was get as much as you can and get down."

If Ford takes a knee at the 1, it's game over.

Now for the last 2 point conversion. It was clearly short and should have been overturned. The Pylon is on the goal and the ball clearly touched OOB before it touched the pylon. The still shots show the gap between the pylon and the ball when it touched the ground.

It was pretty dumb for Indiana to go for that. By that point in the game Indiana had more momentum and PSU had missed 3 FG. They should have liked their chances going to another OT period rather than putting it all on 1 play.

Whatever. On to Ohio State. Hopefully they can limit mistakes and keep it close.

Joey Porter Jr had a strong game. Kid looks like he's going to be a great CB with his length and physicality. He's just a redshirt freshman.

Pat Freiermuth would look great in B&G next year.

Who gives a **** if they "went through that situation this week [in practice]." If Franklin had truly gone through it on the sideline prior to the actual game situation, each and every player should have known exactly what to do. Indiana players were standing there, allowing it to happen.

They could have "handled it better"? Really, James? You think?

And what about the very end of regulation? Why try and kick a 57 yard field goal with 8 seconds left? It was third down -- throw an out and try to get a few more yards. The kick was short by a couple of feet. They run a quick play and gain a few yards before that, and again, THE GAME ENDS BEFORE OVERTIME.

Franklin lost the game with bad management. When PSU went up by 7 with the TD, I said 'Go for 2'. You miss you're still up by a TD, you make the 2 and the game is over. That was the best chance for PSU to assure victory, and Franklin took the unthinking route of kicking to go up by 8. A play where the extra point could have assured victory, and losing it doesn't change your lead advantage, YOU ALWAYS GO FOR IT!

That loss is on Franklin.

I don't really have answers, but do have a lot of questions about college football. The reality to me is that you are what you are and it is damn near impossible to get much better except in the slowest most incremental ways. The reality is on average. (I realize there are outliers like take Aaron Donald for example) Pitt gets a level of recruit. it is far above say a small school, but it is and always will be well below a Notre Dame and not even in the same stratosphere as a Clemson or Alabama. Those teams with the exception of major injuries to say a QB, will continue to dominate perpetually until some major violation happens (Penn State, USC) or the coach leaves and they cannot find a star replacement (USC). It almost seems to me that college football should take on a European Soccer System of tiers. Winning your tier puts you in the next. Bottom relegates. Who the **** wants to see someone beat another team 73-7. When Pit plays Clemson in a month, they will be lucky to stay within 40. That is not sport.

Holy **** ! I guess it was a really bad call.

Not even DraftKings is sure about the way Penn State lost to Indiana Saturday night. The sportsbook will refund all money-line bets on Penn State to beat the Hoosiers in the form of a site credit, according to Action Network reporter Darren Rovell.

Something tells me they aren't going to refund your Pitt bet, though. :dispirited:

No, but it may lead to me having to be drug tested at work. I wasn't crazy enough to put real money on it though. Just a couple of bucks.
