College Bowl/Playoff Thread

So what SEC teams would beat Ohio State and Iowa?

Seriously? My guess is if you had seen the first qtr. of the Iowa game the question would have been which SEC would beat OSU... Iowa would be beaten by several SEC teams. Hard to tell about OSU because they look good at times but lose to teams like MSU who were destroyed by Bama. But I'd rather Bama play OSU this year than Clemson in the championship game.

Am I the only one watching The Twilight Zone marathon?

I'd go out on a limb and say that Tennessee would give both Stanford and Iowa a run for their money...

What a disappointing couple of days worth of major bowl games! I don't have a horse in this race but love a good college match-up. None this year. Hopefully the National Championship is a good game.

I watched Western Ky/South Florida and a lot of the MSU/Alabama game. Last night's game was interesting for the 1st half and a bit of the second. Otherwise it was a huge disappointment for anyone wanting to see a good game. I really thought it was going to be a good game.

As Emmitt Smith would say, Iowa is getting completely blowed out. They were a couple of plays away from making it into the playoff. Maybe they just don give a ****, or maybe they were way overrated.

I need to confess at this time, that I am rooting for Ole Miss. That int should have been the clue.

As much as I like Freeze he has cost the Rebels at least 1 game this year and probably 2. He lets his emotion take control too much. He's a good recruiter however.

You may not watch, but people are watching bowl games more than the regular programming, which is why I believe ESPN televises so many.

Obviously, someone must be watching or they wouldn't pay for the rights to televise. I just don't know many of them, IMO, you have to be a football junkie to watch those games. That's me and others enjoy them, so it is what it is, the networks aren't missing me, there are enough people watching to keep them on the air. Of course, ESPN is a sports channel and would rather air something that is "live" than to replay a previous game or other re-run programming. As a fan of the NFL playoff system I guess I'd like to see it in college to get a champion that has really had to work for it. Winning 4 games wouldn't be an accident.

First play and the game was over. Iowa could not recover. They looked and played tentative all game.

Penn State-UGA. Turning into a game now. I'd like to see my dawgs run away with this one

Good to see the SEC doing much better than most thought. I believe they are 3-1 against the big 10 and 7-2 overall. Arkansas is leading KST. so they could end up 8-2 after today and 9-2 if Bama wins. Not bad for a conference that most said were down this year. Add in that many of those games were blowouts and I think the SEC has looked good this year.

Hackenburg is turning pro. Why? Is he projected to go high? Or has conventional wisdom about when to turn pro changed?

I am genuinely surprised PSU not only scored 17 points, but did it with a back up. Since Franklin arrived on the scene, the offense has been terrible to say the least. The defense is decent, but ever since BOB went to Houston, the offense has been anemic. Good on State. I thought they were gonna get rolled.

Probably because he wants to stay alive long enough to get paid. He was hammered this season and was even hurt today in the bowl game against Georgia.

The SEC has looked great this bowl season. While I feel like they had a down year, I still think that playing in that conference prepares you for bowl season like no other conference. I am thinking Bama is gonna roll Clemson. Clemson is good, but Bama looks like they are on a mission and that is bad news for any of their opponents.

As far as the Big 10, the West is garbage. Iowa? Northwestern? Really? Not surprised at all by the results of their bowl games. Expected Michigan State to lose but show better. It is what it is.

The problem with all conferences is that they have to play teams within the conference. The SEC top to bottom is the best conference IMHO. But they kill each other during the year. The Big 10 is a 1-2 team top heavy conference IMHO. OSU can play with anyone most years.

My only issue this year was many "analysis" and even fans were saying how the SEC was overrated and that the big 10 was just as good if not better. I listened several times to Cowherd repeat the mantra of how the SEC was living off of past success and how they were going to get rolled in the bowl games because the Big 10 was so much better. I'm sure he'll spin it Monday to fit his argument.

I know the SEC isn't perfect and sometimes they are going to have down years. But they were much better than people thought this year.

BTW Clemson is a very good team and I wouldn't be shocked if they beat Bama. Bama has always had trouble with mobile QBs. They are like the Steelers when it comes to mobile QBs.
