Correct me if I’m wrong but the job of the head coach is not normally X’s and O’s
Those details are what the coordinators are for and they also handle play calling. Although the coordinators answer to the head coach.

With that said, the head coach really doesn’t NEED to be a former player or even coach for that matter. The most important job of a head coach is to be a good motivator and someone who can manage guys with big egos. Someone who can keep everyone in line and get the most out of someone.

I guess what I’m saying is maybe it would be ok to look for someone not currently in football but has knowledge of the game. As long as they have the qualities you want and it translates into another profession it shouldn’t matter.

Who am I kidding we are stuck with Tomlin.

Tell that to Bellicheck, coaching is all about X and Os, situational football and game planning, none of which Tomlin excels.

See I feel like if the head coach has their hand in play calling, X’s & O’s, player technique then they don’t have much faith in the staff. The head coach should have a broader view of things, not the details. That’s why he has a staff.

Again tell that to Bellicheck who is involved in every aspect of the game on game day. Tomlin is more or less a spectator until the time for an ill informed gamble. He also can tell the OC to run the ******* QB sneak on t4th and 1 something Ben said we haven't run in years, a Brady staple and something Brady has not been stopped on in years.

Great organization, but the what if dominate the Tomlinson coach era. This team has a load of offensive talent, but only 5 stellar defensive starters, the secondary needs to shaken up they can't cover in that weak and pathetic zone that every year gets exposed. They need fierce competitors like Troy and Ryan Clark to help Joe Hayden!
