The Steelers can't afford someone like Mariotta who is going to be looking for a starting job. So, get that dream out of your head. Ben's cap hit is too high. And, to get Trevor Lawrence, we would have to in at most 2 games next year to get the No. 1 pick in the draft. That ain't happening.
And, "rip the bandage off and **** can Ben". For what? Why? When healthy, he is/was one of the best in the game. If he comes back healthy, he is and should be our starter. He is a hall of famer who was still playing at a very high level prior to his injury in the 1st game of the season that he played with until the 2nd game and then had to stop. There is no way we will or should try to start someone else. And, that doesn't take into consideration his HUGE cap hit the next two years.
Exactly, and it's been the defense that has failed us lately, not Ben, so if that Defense can play like it did this past season, and Ben comes back healthy we'll be a pretty good team.
Although, Tomlin said they call defense different when Ben is there as opposed to when Ben isn't, which is still one of the dumbest things he's said to date.
