By G.Stryker SteelerNation.com Cap Class is a series where I break down the cap to find the amounts associated with the roster, dead money, or future cost of players. Dollar amounts and cap costs may not be exciting, but they can be interesting when you look inside the numbers. I will place explanations inside of […]

Great write up "G." And thank you.

I didn't realize BEN's cap was structured that way but then again I'm not a caprologist either. It's amazing how the STEELERS tie so much into an aging players last contract. I understand the importance of BEN's contract but it seems we are tied to tight to often and its aging player's contracts that are the problem. Like I said I'm not the expert but would like to know how other teams pale in comparison to our situation.

I do know the Chiefs are going to be in for a HUGE surprise in cap management hence Mahomes comes due.

Maybe, and it's a big maybe, they can work something out with Ben to push the roster bonus due date back till sometime in the Summer. Kinda like they did when they forced Boswell to push it back last year. Only, without the "forced" part

This year is ****** for capologists. With no CBA in place 2021 is potentially an uncapped year. Problem is though, there are no post June 1st designations for any team, so any person cut, you have to account for all of their dead money this season.

Cope, you need to get an interview with Colbert. Have him explain the goals, and this no cap situation and dead me net. Do it man , you can make it happen. I believe in you.

yea - an odd year for sure. Hopefully they will come to a new CBA agreement without too much fuss.

If they cancel the season even partially due to greed which would be the only way something isn't ironed out I will be moving on from watching football.

slash, I'm pretty close myself but want to see how and what the CBA plays out as. Now another VERY important factor for me is how the 2nd spygate is handled. CAUGHT red handed in the act.................. I know it will be minimized but it best be something like a 1st rounder +

Oh and billie should be BANNED for life and owner forced to sell.

They were screwed in 2019 too.

The 2020 season was screwed as soon as it was decided to keep the coaching staff intact....

If you notice, we’ve been going down as we’ve replaced each assistant coach. Fitchner, Serrett , Butler are all inferior to their predecessors. And since Tomlin can’t hire or fire anybody, that falls on Colbert. We need better assistant coach’s.

If you think the Rooney’s then you’ve been smoking something. Colbert is the guy who is involved in the hiring and firings of assistants.

Tomlin is involved as well. He even coached with some of them before he came here. There is no way Colbert is hiring assistants all by himself.

That’s absolute bull. Tomlin does not hire & fire. Which is why he couldn’t get rid of Haley when he wanted to or LeBeau. It had to be approved by Colbert.

You go find one shred of evidence that Colbert does the hiring and firing of the assistants. Good luck with that.

I will do your research for you. This is from Steelers.com so you know it is accurate,"Randy Fichtner enters his second season as the Steelers offensive coordinator in 2019 after spending eight seasons the team's quarterbacks and three prior as the team's wide receivers coach. Fichtner, who will remain the quarterbacks coach for the Steelers, was hired by Head Coach Mike Tomlin on January 29, 2007." I wish people would research before spitting bullshit. Now I am sure the Rooney's can overturn decisions or influence a coaches firing. But to think a HC can't hire and fire is silly.

No ****
Whenever a coach gets hired he usually brings in his own staff.

I have to believe the Steelers will sign a veteran free agent this off season due to Ben's uncertainty..

I would look at Bortles and Mariotta.

If they dont ...this would mean to me that they are willing to have a shot at Trevor Lawrence

I personally hope they rip the bandage off and **** can Ben. I know they won’t just as they didn’t fix the coaching situation. I hand it to the chiefs they made the hard calls and decisions and won s superbowl. First they dumped Smith drafted maholmes, then they changed the defense. Balls are as scarce as hens teeth in our front office. You won’t win without a mobile quarterback or a defense the can defend the run and pass with a quick 4 man line and great coverage with back 7. Simple. Steelers can’t do either. We have a coaching staff “look at me! I’m a mad genius!” The defense was better but for *** sakes it has great talent. But it couldn’t stop anybody when it mattered it needs radically change to better use the emense talent they have put together. Ben’s day is done, it’s over he’d be better off just doing like Eli and bow out with a little dignity. He won’t, he’ll suck, well suck well be back here complaining about same things next year at this time. We need a mobile qb, at least two speed guys, one at running back, and every down te thats a threat in red zone. On defense they need to play a solid four man line with Dupree at DE, watt blitzing, **** canning two and one man lines. It’s Only way to control rpo. Who should qb us? I don’t know but I know he’s not on our roaster right now and bringing in rivers would like bringing in a telephone pole to replace Ben.

The Steelers can't afford someone like Mariotta who is going to be looking for a starting job. So, get that dream out of your head. Ben's cap hit is too high. And, to get Trevor Lawrence, we would have to in at most 2 games next year to get the No. 1 pick in the draft. That ain't happening.

And, "rip the bandage off and **** can Ben". For what? Why? When healthy, he is/was one of the best in the game. If he comes back healthy, he is and should be our starter. He is a hall of famer who was still playing at a very high level prior to his injury in the 1st game of the season that he played with until the 2nd game and then had to stop. There is no way we will or should try to start someone else. And, that doesn't take into consideration his HUGE cap hit the next two years.
