Cam Heyward wants a new deal

I agree except for one thing. NFL contracts are not guaranteed and teams can cut a player and not pay the full balance of his contract anytime.
I do think the players should hold out for guaranteed contracts at renegotiation time.
And they still will complain at times they underpaid.

NO body understands the problems 6 millions dollars comes with........

If they were to get guaranteed contracts, i bet a ton of tge money moves from salary into incentives.

Also since teams have to escrow contract guarantees, many teams won't be able to afford to give out long term contracts like that... the teams are worth billions but they mostly dont have that kind of capital lying about...

That’s why my last sentence said team management should do the same.

The Steelers gave up a 2nd for DK. McLaurin is older and doesn't have the same athletic profile. That would be an insanely bad trade offer.
Not insanely bad...they could push the second to 2027 ...or give them the third they got for Pickens in 2026 which would seem more likely if a trade was to go down... I dont know what you mean when you say Terry McLaurin doesn't have the same athletic profile? He's been to a couple of pro bowls...most recently last year. Hes easily top 15-20 in the league at his position and hes 29.. Maybe a 2nd would be too much, but definitely a third is reasonable....4th rd could make the Steelers the winner in the trade...maybe have Washington send the Steelers a late rd pick also in 2026, or something like a fourth if the Steelers give up the third.

Terry would be a solid addition but I prefer them to keep those picks. The run D isn’t solid enough to take on that trade. I see no reason to trade Cam.

Not that I recall, but you of all people should remember that Ben was given a 5-year extension in 2015 at the age of 33. And unlike Cam is doing, Ben honored the vast majority of that contract. He then signed a 2-year extension in 2019, when he was 37.
Well as we all know QB is different than any other position, but that's my point, the Steelers have done right by Cam, they've never given a player 35 years old a 3 year extension except him, and they said on the radio that when they extended him in 2020, that was highest amount ever given to a non QB over 30 or 31 years old in NFL history. So they've done right by Cam.

The escrow deal would mean that so much cash gets locked up for years....it's not like the NFL cannot afford it, but they would probably only do it while reducing that escrow to say 50-75% or similar.

If the entire contract is guaranteed it takes away the need for “guaranteed” money as the NFL currently operates as the entire contract is guaranteed. The player simply gets paid their yearly salary, however it is broken up (game checks or just divide between however many weeks). Bonus money and guarantee and such only exist in their current form because the entire contract is NOT guaranteed.

If every other league has it figured out I’m sure the NFL can too.

The length of contracts may likely go down for many players, especially the older ones.

Incentives may very well be used as icing on the cake in this format.

I think teams just need to stop giving into demands. Don't trade them or rework deals that were just done. If guys aren't happy let them sit out and get fined. If all teams stuck together it would end this nonsense.

Meh.....I would simply let Cam hold out. Let him sit at home during the regularseason. He says he wants cash. Well he already got that up front this season. Give the young players a chance. Sink or swim.
Read this morning that he is willing to sit out games...

Color me shocked.

Not.
That is his choice....if the Steelers hold firm I guess it will be his retirement. His choice.

Not.

Fine the hell out of him

Explore trade options to pathetic teams like the Saints

Whatever it takes

But on no planet should they cave to this pathetic hypocrite unless they just wanna open a whole new style of negotiation operations

He sure loves to pipe in with his two cents when it’s other people

He needs to take a look in the mirror and figure some **** out

Maybe sitting out a few games will do the D some good later in the season and he might actually have something left in the tank if they sneak into the playoffs. Judging from his last 7 playoff appearances posting zero wins it seems his tank is always on E when a meaningful game comes around.

Cam and Watt the wonder twins,
Wonder when they’ll win a meaningful game.
