Cam Heyward wants a new deal

I guess it's all relative. Boswell is about 1.5 million under top kicker salary. You just can't have it both ways. If he'd have gotten injured and never recovered form hed have got some guarenteed money. It's gonna be difficult. I don't know who blinks first here. But this is not the way this team conducts business.

It isn't my money, and I don't turn the TV on to see Art Rooney and Mike Brown square off against each other. At the same time, the argument being used that they signed all these guys from the outside, players who have been there feel slighted...bullshiit on that...they all want free agency, this is part of it.

Like last year, they pay him, fine, they don't, that's fine too. As others have stated, it isn't like they have done anything while he's been here.

What I objected to last year was the anger at him. He's a hypocrite! Something he said about Ben taking a cut. I argued he's a good guy, good in the community, great player and all that. Well, with this, maybe he is a bit of a hypocrite.

Shouldn’t it be where his salary was when he signed? Correct me if I’m wrong, but when he signed wasn’t he paid as the top kicker in the game? Or tied with The Ravens kicker? I can’t remember. It’s funny, all the players want the longer, the Secure type contract. Then as the $$$$ go up every year they want to break the contract. Perhaps they should sign 1-2 year contracts. Of course they want it both ways. If they have a down year they certainly don’t want to give back any money. As a sports fan,I must admit I am getting sick and tired of this type of BS.

Put me on the can't stand this guy anymore list
Cam has made $130+ million dollars in his career for being the captain of 5 of the worst defenses in playoff history, points against.
He is a joke and he's proven that not only does he fail under the bright lights of the postseason, he can't win without TJ on the field.
He's a selfish hypocrite for always preaching being a stand up guy and accountability etc, and then not wanting to be held accountable for the contract he just signed.
He's gonna hold in??
When his teammate wanted a new contract and is the Best player in the NFL at his position and the #2 receiver on the team. Cam had a much different attitude.

"Either you get on the bus or not. And if Le’Veon Bell doesn’t appear to want on that bus just yet? That’s his loss. We’re trying to get wins."

I hope the Steelers tell him exactly what he said when Bell wanted $$

This guy is a drama queen who can't stand the fact that Aaron Rodgers and TJ dominated every headline this offseason and is more important to this organization than Cam ever has been or will ever be.

Cam again showed his hypocrisy with Aaron Rodgers this spring

“I want to play football… I’m tired of talking about the quarterback situation.”
“I ain’t doing that darkness retreat. I don’t need any of that crap.”
“Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t… If you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don’t, no skin off my back.”

Guy is an egomaniac always running his mouth, never backing it up when it counts.

1-11 without TJ, Giving up historical points against journeymen QB in the playoffs his Entire career. Cam is a fraud
I would love it if A A Ron would come out and say that exact quote in regards to Cam. Lol

Just give a fixed pay amount based on position and length of play. On top of that they can earn league bonuses for achievements. All contracts will be for 1 year and paid on day 1 of the league year. COLA will be applied each year.

Ex. Position “X” average rate of pay in 2024 is “A”. This is the number for pay determination in 2025.

Draft picks will be paid @ .5A - league min. Depending on round picked. They will ALL be restricted players for the first 5 years in the league. This means that the team drafting the player has exclusive right to the player. The team can cut said player at any time, they will lose no pay as they have already received payment for the year. If the team cuts said player, they will lose any future right to the player. The next team to sign the player would then gain the rights to the player for the balance of the 5 year restriction window.

Veteran player - Same as above will apply EXCEPT they will be paid 1/2 of their 5 year bonus average IN ADDITION to their previous salary starting in year 6, 11, 16, 21, etc.

All league structured bonuses will be negotiated between player and league representatives every 4 years.

Teams will have up to 30 days after the Super Bowl to offer new contracts to each player for the next year. Day 31 all players not offered contracts will be free to negotiate with another team.

This will be a simple operation as each player will carry a locked in salary for their services. All teams will simply need to decide whether they are willing to pay the player for their assigned salary.
Players will no longer have to worry about negotiating salaries, so they only need decide if they wish to play for the team offering a contract. Players will have control over future earnings based on their play during the 5 year bonus average period window.

Example - Player drafted in round 1
2025 average for position is $8 Million dollars, COLA is 4%
Year 1 pay = $4 Million, bonus $0, restricted
Year 2 pay = $4.160 Million, bonus $1 Million, restricted
Year 3 pay = $4.326 Million, bonus $3 Million, restricted
Year 4 pay = $4.5 Million, bonus $6 Million, restricted
Year 5 pay = $4.680 Million, bonus $3 Million, restricted (negotiation results in increased bonuses and continued 4% COLA)
Year 6 pay = $7.280 Million, bonus $6 Million, unrestricted
Year 7 pay = $7.571 Million, bonus $1 Million, unrestricted
Year 8 pay = $7.874 Million, bonus $0 Million, unrestricted
Year 9 pay = $8.189 Million, bonus $0 Million, unrestricted
Year 10 no contract tendered

Oh don't mistake me. Im 100 % agreement. If the team makes a good deal they should win. The amount Mahones got seemed ridiculous till the salary cap increase made it seemed reasonable in comparison. You can't have long term security and be the top dog. Sorry.

You communist!

The NFL and The PA have to come up with a new system. It used to be the top draft picks got stupid cake. More then established quality players. Now the player gives up his best years on the lowest paycheck he's gonna get. The running backs get used up and have little value after the rookie deal. But at the same time second and third contracts of 4 and 5 years are now 3 and 4 year deals apparently on the verge of 2 and 3 year deals. I dont have answers but know it's got big problems. You have a company that has 32 franchises with complete linkage financially and some make terrible business decisions (See Cleveland Watson here) that hurt everyone else.

They have to severely improve performance bonuses, especially for shorter expected career length positions

Well as we all know QB is different than any other position, but that's my point, the Steelers have done right by Cam, they've never given a player 35 years old a 3 year extension except him, and they said on the radio that when they extended him in 2020, that was highest amount ever given to a non QB over 30 or 31 years old in NFL history. So they've done right by Cam.
Couldn't agree more. You asked a question; I just tried to answer it.

"I know what I bring to this team and what I'm capable of, on and off the field. So, it's hard for me to, after the year I've had, to really justify playing at the number I'm playing at." --Cam Heyward

"I know what Cam Heyward has said in the past about the team and loyalty, including how he's a gladiator who just wants to play football. So, it's hard for me, after another preseason of listening to the guy whine about his contract, to really justify calling him anything else but a greedy asshoIe hypocrite." -- @topseed

Fine the hell out of him

Explore trade options to pathetic teams like the Saints

Whatever it takes

But on no planet should they cave to this pathetic hypocrite unless they just wanna open a whole new style of negotiation operations

He sure loves to pipe in with his two cents when it’s other people

He needs to take a look in the mirror and figure some **** out

Maybe sitting out a few games will do the D some good later in the season and he might actually have something left in the tank if they sneak into the playoffs. Judging from his last 7 playoff appearances posting zero wins it seems his tank is always on E when a meaningful game comes around.

Cam and Watt the wonder twins,
Wonder when they’ll win a meaningful game.
I am thinking this years D could be. ....historic though. 🤔

Cam's HC has been richly rewarded and extended for the complete lack of recent playoff success too.

At least he never cried like a hostage
