Brown calls Ryan Clark an Uncle Tom

Penguins owners don’t play these sort of games and they sure as hell don’t tolerate this nonsense.

Warms my heart they smoked the rangers tonight.

I hope the owners don't get complacent.
Lemieux and Burkle are all in though.

GM Rutherford though. Can be a head scratcher of late.

The off season will motivate Ben though.
Juju seems to still dwell on that fumble in NO.

I think the team will be hungry. Should be anyways

Young Prime Time Jr tried to be the man yesterday. Posted that AB was the goat, then said this about Clark. Don't be calling Ryan Clark out young pup lol

Clark gonna be whoopin *** on the regular in 2019

I logged in tonight for an update after thinking about this standoff.

I was going to suggest there is only one way forward out of this mess. Pittsburgh can't really trade AB due to the Cap Penalty but AB can't continue this behavior without stopping the bleeding as he is being destroyed in every circle outside of James Harrison's arm reach. I was (stupidly) going to suggest that after a cooling off period, AB had to come forward with a mea culpa, fall on the sword and publicly apologize to his owner, his coaches, his teammates. He had to give the typical politician speech about making mistakes, getting emotional and letting people down, learning from his mistakes and wanting to earn back everyone's trust. That was the only way out of this mess for everyone and I thought maybe AB, or his agent, or anyone, might figure that out.

Then I see he's attacking Ryan Clarke on racial grounds.

If this continues much more, like another day or so, AB will never again wear a Steeler uniform. At some point, Art II has to man up and understand he is being challenged by this ungrateful punk. It's Art's team. It's Art's control that is being publicly challenged.

Sooner or later. The team better have a player conduct clause in that contract. Maybe AB and Drew Rosenhaus think they can get out of his contract by having it terminated over conduct. Maybe he wants to hit the free agency market again. Otherwise, he is one of the dumbest people on the planet (a distinct possibility, rivaled only by Me'Veon Bell who decided to piss away $14.5 Million this year).

There is no way I trade AB. I suspend him indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team and let him sit for the year. You're going to eat a bunch money anyway, so why give him what he wants in the process? Suspend him and let him rot until his contract expires.

He'll be back next year. He's just pissed right now. Plus the Steelers won't trade him out of his contract, I believe.

I might agree. He is burning bridges right now. This "interview" could very well finish his career with the Steelers. Depending on how long this goes, might finish his NFL career. Who wants a guy like that on their team? But then, the Redskins signed a woman beater, so who knows?

I said Ryan Clark was a mouthpiece for the NFL now that he has a network job, seems like AB agrees

I'd rather be "labeled" what Clark was by AB and have a SB ring than be a KNOWN diva and agitator without one???

AB will obviously be inducted into the HOF one day... I hope the attendance by Steeler Nation is reflected accordingly when the time comes.

These are dark days for Steeler Nation to be sure, but take some solace in recognizing, the Steelers won 6 of 7 SB's without AB, and Bell for that matter... only managed to lose one with AB and/or Bell. These 2 cancers will be gone and odds say, the Steelers will right the ship again.

We've won 7? Damn that must have been a long nap.

If they trade him before March 18th his cap hit will only be 6 million. His 12 million dollar salary will be wiped away and he's due a 4 million dollar roster bonus March 18th. So that's 16 million wiped away of his 22 million cap hit.

I thought I read that his cap hit is reduced to $7mil if he's traded AFTER June 1st? This is all very confusing...

I also saw where he suggested he'd like to play in San Fran., so maybe they can work something out in the same vein as the Eli/Phillip Rivers trade. Where S.F. agrees to draft the player of our choosing at #2 and we agree to trade AB for that player after June 1?

No player is bigger than the team. Every team in the playoffs this season made it there without AB or Leveon Bell.

Where did we win our last Super Bowl with AB?

This is becoming downright pathetic, with AB calling Ryan Clark an Uncle Tom. Embarrassing.

His basic cap hit of traded before June 1st is 21 million. Now there might be a couple million savings in a small window in March. But essentially his guaranteed money would be monstrous this year but off the books next. If he is post June 1st you eat the March money but spread the rest out they said over three but I thought when we talked Bos it had to be two. Other draw back is that if it is draft pick its 2020 because draft will be done.

I wrote that the Steelers won 6 of 7 SB's without AB/Bell, not won 7... Steelers won all 6 of their SB's out of the 7 that were played prior to AB/Bell ('74, '75, '78, '79, '05, '08 and lost '95).

They've played 1 and lost it with Brown/Bell (lost '2010), obviously the one only having Brown on the roster and haven't even reached one with the 2 of those clowns rostered!!! Sorry if you can't follow along?

Point being, with the exception of individual statistics, the Steelers achieved all of their team greatness pre AB/Bell. In 9 seasons with Brown and 5 with both Brown and Bell the Steelers have reached 1 total SB and won ZERO! A good team with good, selfless players > Great individual players.

That's why they need to make the trade prior to March 18th before his roster bonus kicks in and they get draft picks for this year. The way I'm reading it is.
His cap his is just under 22 million(includes 12 million in salary, 4 million roster bonus (March 18), then 6 million in pro rated signing bonus)

Trade him prior to his 4 million dollar roster bonus, so we don't have to pay that and his 12 million salary goes with him.

Leaving us on the hook for the 6 million

Will be interesting to see who would take him after watching this fiasco unfold. Would be wild if he were to be released and nobody picks him up like Kaepernick. Not sure if the owners have enough solidarity for that or not but if this reckless behavior is rewarded, it will become standard practice and will hurt the league in the long run.

Any trade means that we eat $21M of dead money. Any. We could save $1M based on moving him but regardless we have to eat the dead money. And if we are to do it at a meaningful time it has to happen before the draft.

An interesting article on what he might be worth though:

If a team picking in the top five of the NFL Draft offered their selection straight up for Brown, the Steelers would probably consider it. They would have to eat all of his dead money, but would have enormous savings after 2019 when Brown's contract would be gone and they'd have a top-five pick making below market-value in his place. If a team picking between No. 6 and No. 10 called, they'd probably insist on them adding another young player, just as the Vikings were able to secure Harris in the Moss trade.

Gives you at least some idea of what people should be looking at. Still a monster IF though.

How long before AB and that genius activist LeClown James get together on this somehow? Tomlin being a black guy sort of hurts the case, but I would not be surprised to see AB try to turn this into a social justice thing.

Fixed that for you!

The only dead money in a trade would be what's left of his signing bonus wouldn't it?

The salary would go with him and he wouldn't get his roster bonus?

Bouchette and some others say the real cap hit would be about $6MIL after they get back the 2019 salary and bonus. Not sure why this is so complicated that everyone doesn't have a clear answer. I hope this is the right interpretation.

The thing that surprises me the most about this thread is that Coach had to look up the meaning of an Uncle Tom...

Bouchette is wrong, unless moving Brown involves him paying back some of his signing bonus to get a trade. $21M is in stone, but there are instances where a player has paid back part of a signing bonus, and that reduces the cap. If Brown is going to get a brand new contract, possibly in the $100M range, he could conceivably give the Steelers $20M if he's getting over $40M in guarantees. He's still making out, gets a higher salary, and the Steelers are out of cap hell. The problem with moving him though, is value. He's not a 1 first round draft pick trade. AB is a GOAT. It's like trading Rice in his prime. What team wouldn't give everything to get a Rice in his prime? This can possibly be played like the Hershel Walker trade. Walker was a HOFer, and a GOAT at the time for RBs, Dallas parlayed that trade into 3 superbows. Minimum that I would take for AB is 3 1sts. 1 first for a pro bowler, 2 firsts for a franchise player, 3 firsts for a HOFer/GOAT. That is intelligent market value for AB.

And some of your numbers you're throwing around are off. The bonus is $2.5M not $4.
