"Black Take"

It was outright disgusting how Stephen A Smith was ranting how Cam is more hated than Brady and it's because he's black. Most of the times Skip Bayless has to agree with him on all racial issues, but it was commendable that he was disagreeing and it was getting very heated.

No way. I like Cam Newton. I wish all players would just hand the ball to the ref, but I lose no sleep over it. The guy is a great player.

If Brady was on fire, I might not piss on him to put it out.

football season ended a few weeks ago.....

while on the subject of black QBs, one argument i hate is the argument that racism was the reason why QBs were mostly all white until the last 15 years or so.

That argument is wrong because it shows a lack of historical understanding of football. The fact is that QB was NOT the most important position, particularly at lower levels, until recently. Running Back was the most important offensive position probably until the 90s. Most HS and college offense were heavily run based, so if you had a guy like Cam on your team, you would get more out of him as a RB than as a QB.

Actually, you would have gotten more out of Cam as a DE than a QB. Defense got the best athletes. A guy like Odell Beckham would have been a CB 20 years ago. No doubt about it.

Think of it like this. Say you are a high school or college coach and you have Mike Vick and Chad Pennington on your team. What do you do? I'm playing Pennington at QB and Vick at WR/RB. That has nothing to do with race, it's just getting the most out of your available talent.

Up through 1999, RBs won the Heisman 41 times in 65 years. From 2000-2015, only 2 RBs but 13 QBs have won. That shows you the change in the game. QB just wasn't the most important position in HS and college until relatively recently.

Along the way was there a racist coach or 2 that didn't want a black QB? Probably, but the vast majority of the decisions were based on trying to win games, not race.

And, what's your point? Cam brought up the black QB thing, he did. But his last comments were that the media is covering it far too much, and he doesn't think it's a story worth hyper-focusing on, so what's ESPN do? Focus even more on it, even when they player himself is saying it's not worth covering anymore. And yet, 1st Take used those statements to CONTINUE to focus on the slant more than ever.

My point is GBRman said cam didn't start it (yes he did) and that the press put those words in his mouth ( no they didn't). Who gives a **** what his last comments were, HE started it and now that its getting so much attention as a racial thing he is trying to back track. you can't unscrew a pregnant women. It's the double standard, if a white person says something like that everyone is so far up their *** that they can't walk, but hey that's OK. I actually like Cam but he said what he said so now ******* stand by it and don't try to cover your tracks. BTW people don't need to look to Cam for race baiting we have plenty of that right here.

I don't like his superman act. He is arrogant and obnoxious. Regarding his statements about being scary and that we've never seen anything like him before...how arrogant can he be? Sure, Cam, you're soooooo special! What happened your first four years in the league?

I'm an African-American QB that may scare a lot of people' with unique skills

Why does he frighten people with unique skills? Do people with ordinary skills find him less intimidating?

He certainly terrifies people with grammar skills.

He's arrogant in your eyes, in YOUR cultural circles. To most black people, he's not arrogant, he's just confident and likes "getting down" and celebrating his skills. People with African DNA tend (not, that "tend" is not saying every single person of the race applies) to be more emotional than their white, European counterparts. I don't know why we can't celebrate our different cultures than fight over them. Would I choose to do the Superman act after a TD, if I were playing? No, I would not. But it doesn't bother me that he does. As far as us having not "seen anything like him before," he's not completely wrong about that. I have never seen a QB who has all the physical skills AND size that Cam has. Cunningham had a lot of the same skills, but he didn't have the size and power to power rush for first downs and TDs. Cam is so big he can take tacklers head on, running them over. And in addition to that, he has a big gun, can pass from the pocket, or on the run. He is bigger than some of the DEs chasing him. As far as "what did he do before this season" just for starters, he was the only rookie in the history of the NFL to pass for over 4,000 yards. And, even during THIS prolific season, he STILL has virtually no play makers to work with and he is STILL in the Super Bowl.

You can find Cam's act distasteful, that is your prerogative. Hey, you can even dislike him wearing socks with sandals. Whatever floats your boat.

His celebration act is no worse than what Rodgers does, or JJ Watt does, or even the dumb *** first down stuff AB likes so much. That dabbing routine is tame compared to some of the crazy stuff Ocho Dumbass used to do. If teams don't want him celebrating, stop him from scoring. This notion that we've never seen a black QB is ridiculous. He can run, so could Vick. He may be bigger in stature, but he's not doing anything Steve Young or Vick didn't do before him, race or no. It's a played out subject and story.

Though I'm sure Bayless is well compensated for his work on the show, I'd be very reluctant to be a white co-host to Smith.

Bayless basically has to concede to every race-based assertion that comes out of Smith's mouth, or run the risk of being branded a racist and having his career ruined.

The show is somewhat a microcosm of today's society in that respect.

Newton is a dumb QB having to run a simplified college offense because he can't read defenses, everything else is just buckshot. Today he will prove what a mediocre passer he is.

The touchdown when he kept dancing in front of the defender was pretty amusing (if you're a fan). What I had a problem with is that some of Carolina's celebrations went just as long--if not longer--than William Gay's and they drew no flag.

By the way, a lot of dancing from the Steelers this year with Gay and Brown's two fantastic celebrations with the front flip and slide down the goal posts.

That dumb QB lost one game this year and is on the verge of a championship. I'm sure a lot of teams would love to have an idiot like him running their offense.

Well I don't care for Rodgers for the same reason. He's arrogant. I've never liked him.

I guess I didn't pay attention to all of his accomplishments due to his gloating turning me off.

I think the scared comment is hilarious. Yes black people are sometimes very boisterous in their celebrations. That doesn't mean they act like arrogant *****. Sorry that's what I see when Cam over does it.

Warrior, how many native Americans act like jackasses, cause everyone took everything from them. Using this sample, cause no one is crying about the past...

So incredibly tired of race in everything.

There are NIGGERS of every race. There are blacks, whites, native americans, Chinese, Mexicans, etc....that act like ******* needy, whining idiots.
But there are the same colors that act like humans that care.

Doug Williams anyone? Cam isnt the only black qb to play in the super bowl. Damn media likes to push such a useless agenda. The guy choked on the big stage cause he played horrible. Leave it at that

Which is why I dont watch the show. Me personally I have no problems with race. Its culture. Ghetto thug culture. The biggest draw is easy $$$. Rather than working a respectable job. Society would rather deal in the slums. Its stupid how over hyped subjects like these are. Cam is a pro QB in my eyes. Nothing more, nothing less. Let Stephen A look like an idiot and go on about stupid gibberish

I've said it before, if you want to get back at the white man quit crying like little baby back ******* and open a damn casino.
