Black Monday historically hard on African American coaches in 2018

What would it take for you to want Shades to go? Please do tell us, Ike. Tomlin needs to go. He's holding us back. I'll take Frazier over him, and a few other coaches for that matter.

What would it take? Taking the emotional aspect out of it, which is the necessity to being successful in the business itself, there are various reasons. The most important reason would be losing games and not making the playoffs on a consistent basis. Not losing the locker room is another. And before you chime in that he has....there has been only two players, AB and Harrison which has caused known issues. Both with the player being in the wrong. If it was handled internally, then that's all we can say. How it was handled or will be handled is something we are clamoring for, the club doesn't have to reveal unfortunatley. Its a business with employees and confidential to an extent. Bell is outside the purview of Tomlin to handle no matter what you think. He doesn't handle contract negotiations or players not on a contract. When he was on contract, he was suspended when he broke team rules. He had an excused absence from a walk through....we don't know why. We can be suspicious, but he still played and performed anyway.

Unless there is a complete disagreement in recommendations from Art 2, I see Tomlin coming back, Butler/Smith fired maybe Porter, and new staff to help managing overseeing replay and time management. like 95% of coaches do already. Tomlin can't afford to be stubborn on this issue. Its ridiculous for him to even argue about it.

You would take Rich Kotite over Tomlin just to prove an agenda on your part. Funny thing, you question EVERYTHING about this franchise....the coaches, the players, the GM even the owner. Why haven't you interviewed for a GM position for Arena League, or even Semi Pro League, heck why not the new AAF and XFL leagues. You've seem to have everything thing figured out even right down to contract negotiations, but not acted upon your perceived immense knowledge of the game or the idiosyncrasies of player drafts and free agency.

You can't even acknowledge who the current Team President/Owner is.

Ike, Tomlin himself slipped that he had his hands in the D. Hard to fire Butler without looking his way as well.

To clarify to the board, I'm not saying Tomlin can't be fired. Heck, I said there is a chance he will be many times here! I'm saying he's the poster boy for the Rooney rule, and I think Art Rooney Jr, in my opinion, would have it a bit tougher firing Tomlin because his family name is attached to the rule.

I also think the NFL which is in the entertainment business will have some media displeasure if Tomlin was fired and this will be magnified by the fact that there would only be one African American coach left if it happened tomorrow. This is strictly my opinion, and I think it's helping Tomlin case just a bit. If you disagree, I don't care. I call it as I see it.

I ever said or implied coaching has anything to do with race, and agree with the firing of all the coaches so far. They had their chance.

Even after you have been corrected numerous times....you "call it as you see it wrong"....Art Rooney Jr. was the Personnel Director of the Steelers under his brother Dan beginning in 1965 through 1987 when Dan relieved him of his duties. Was instrumental in the awesome drafts of the early 70's. He became Vice President of the Club (due to shares ownership) and still is unless his shares have been sold. Dan Rooney's son Art II (Art 2) is the current President of the club and has been since 2003.

Write this on a board a hundred times Bart, maybe you will then stop embarrassing yourself.

Dude, get your sunglasses cleaned. I was taking Rooney rule attached to the family name. Tomlin is the poster boy for the rule. What I said has NOTHING to do with the crap your saying. Art Rooney is his name. If you have to use a II or a jr to make a distinction between someone with the exact so name and act like your making a point, that's funny. Spare us a history review, nobody is asking of it. You might "think " you're making a point, but all your doing is twisting words and the initial intent of a post, acting like you can prove something by regurgitating garbage.

You remain the Dunning-Kruger of this board.

Arthur J Rooney II

We did NOT make the playoffs. I guess you are okay with being 3-6 in the last nine playoff games, and a cluster F of mistakes made week in and week out by Tomlin then. Sure, let's lose three games a season to teams below .500 and one beat two above .500. As I thought. We are too good not to make the playoffs for a string of seasons. Why settle for crap in the post season while Ben is still in is prime?

No I would not take Kotitte over Tomlin, stop placing words in my mouth I would not say. I would take several active NFL coaches over Tomlin including one already on the team You must think Tomlin's still the best man for the job. Just come out and say that.

People who think there couldn't possibly be a single person in all of football better than Mike Tomlin that isn't already a head coach crack me up.

A job opening as the Steelers head coach is the most sought after in all of football. Virtually every coordinator and coach in the league would drop everything for the opportunity to interview for the job.

To claim that nobody else in all of football is better? Laughable. Most of the people on this board could have coached the team to the same number of wins as Tomlin.

If I were a young HC candidate I would take the Browns job over the Steelers right now all day long. History is great, but as those franchises sit currently, one has their young franchise QB, one has an aging vet who's about done. Their defense is young, and much improved with some impact players, ours? Sure. They have cap space, and are on the rise. Us? Not only are we not in the playoff's, the circus with our top players and coaches is an embarrassment. That job is the best opening out there this off season. If they handle it right and make a couple good off season moves they will be in the hunt in this division. Bank on it.

Calling BS genius. The context of your statement implied to Art2 having a “tougher firing Tomlin (sic)” and you know it. I’m not twisting anything. These are your own words...which you keyed and changed on your own reply moron.

Also, the “Poster boy” for the Rooney rule for the Steelers was Ron Rivera idiot. He was interviewed first.

My informing you of who the current President of the club is wasn’t a history lesson, it was a subtle attempt to help realize how ignorant you are when you don’t read what you post.

Why aint there a rule for interviewing Native Americans for head coach? I am absolutely positive I could bullshit my way just as good as Tomlin did, and I might even be better at time management (took a course on it lol) and challenges then Tomlin.

Native Americans would fall into the Rooney Rule. Have at it.

Lol...would the team have the same level of talent on offense? When you start your comments "with this talent...". Those other coaches who are missing playoffs because they dont have the same talent? They are, partly, responsible for that talent, yes?

They interviewed Ron Rivera before Tomlin, right?

Yeah I know slash. It’s to the point that if he wanted to change the base philosophy, he should have after Coach LB left. But I’m guessing that, as did Cowher in the early 90s, the defensive coaching staff has tried to implement a hybrid scheme to counter the favorable rules for the offense. Just as Cowher, Capers, Lewis and LeBeau instituted the zone blitz from the 3/4.

Everyone wants Tomlin gone. I get it. Same thing happened on this board with Cowher to even a worse extent. Those AFCC games and god awful back to back losing seasons were difficult on the board. But I am a realist, Art2 isn’t getting rid of Tomlin, but recommendations will be communicated. Change is needed and Butler will be a part of it. Getting another pair of eyes outside the organization with the LB core did something. So that’s easy to see. Same for Smith on ST. Too many penalties...some not warranted however. IMO, special teams will only be punt and FG units in 5 years or less anyway. That’s Goodell’s plan.

Schelerth made some good points on his interview. Tomlin needs to reassert himself in the locker room that no one is above the team. Players know the hierarchy, it’s just a matter of having the vet leadership carry the message from the HC. It’s how it’s always been done in this sport.

If Smith, Butler, and most of the defensive coaching staff aren't fired, it will deal a serious blow to my fandom.

I think Smith and Butler and Peezy. The run D was good, so the DL coach is ok IMO.

ILB and secondary coach had personnel deficiencies so hard to get a grasp on them. Not that they aren't replaceable.

In the hunt? I would bet $10 right now the win the division next season. Pittsburgh and Cincy are train wrecks. Baltimore has a stout defense. Cleveland was one really, really quick whistle from handing the Steelers the division. They gonna run this **** for a while.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. I said at the time that bringing in a retired LB coach from another team to show us how to beat the Pats***** was a F'n embarrassment. But it worked, which was also a F'n embarrassment.

That Cleveland wins the division next year? I will take that bet.

He's this years whipping post but I don't think I'd mind seeing what Butler could do without interference from the HC. And seeing as they're besties, I don't see Tomlin firing Joey Porter either, unless the decision to do so has been removed from him.

Did you forget about Bell? And Bryant. Try FOUR players.

Does any current coach have this many issues with his current players and past greats from the organization? No. Tomlin is unique in that department. DeCastro spoke out saying the team wasn't focused. Ben said the same thing. Tomlin had to have words with Pouncey about his use of social media. James says we are the Kardashians. You still think he has the locker room under control? Humor me some more Ike.

Humor you...ok. You think you are never wrong, when you are.....frequently. Self grandiose of player evaluations with no actual original evaluations. There is a start. Spouts off about his post count, but doesn’t contribute to the board who allows it....the definition of freeloader in layman’s terms.

No I didn’t forget about Bell. He was suspended 2 games for smoking weed. He has had no locker room issues when he was playing. Besides his contract dispute how is the coach involved? He wasn’t under contract, therefore had no ability.

Bryant? His suspensions mandated by the league, Coach and GM have no control. However, when MB called out Coates during the draft with JuJu, Bryant was suspended a game for conduct detrimental.

Pouncey? Something that occurred several years ago with his brother? Of which he profusely apologized for shortly after? Pouncey hasn’t done anything to upset the locker room. And Outlaw was making a humor out of the situation itself......where were you at the presser? Didn’t see or hear you take Tomlin to task like you say you would.

You have no clues! Sure Bell had good communication with Tomlin! Obviously not. Bell trolled the team on twitter.

Tomlin failed to get through to Bryant. Maybe he was a lost cause but it was a swing and a miss.

Pouncey tweeted out his medical status, much to Tomlin's chagrin when Tomlin asked him not to.

Now add in Brown and Harrison.

Oh, let's not forget the team unity crap Tomlin pulled which surely upset the players who wanted to be on the field with the national anthem. If your boss asked you to do something against your political beliefs in a public setting, with media eyes, wouldn't it upset you a bit too?

What other NFL coach has this amount of trouble with good players??? Humor us again. You might be able to name one. But I suspect you won't reply to this question because it shows I'm correct.

You are literally a freaking idiot. You can’t comprehend what’s written or spoken to what you are seeing or hearing.

Bell, when he was a active player caused no issues in the locker room or on social media, except for his music. When his contract expired and was tagged, until he signed the tag (2017) no coach could expound on his situation. It’s prohibited from the CBA, yet he is free to do whatever he wants on social media. Coach can’t comment on it though. In 2018 he never signed the tag, hence never was an active player and therefore not available for coach involvement either through his contract or whatever he did on social media....again because of the CBA. Colbert, Khan and Art2 and the management team dealt with his agent only. The coaching staff and trainers deal with players on the active roster or IR.

Everyone failed to get through Bryant. His teammates, coaches, FO, his family....even Gruden since he blew his chance there. MB has a severe Behavioral Health problem, and football should be the last thing on his mind. But the narrow minded brain you have focuses on what you think is correct. Which by the way is minimal.

Pouncey’s medical status on his leg (when DeCastro broke his ankle). Lol, he was asked a question on the plane on the recovery period after several months and said, with seven surgeries because if infections, it takes longer. Tomlin reminded him not to because of the IR status. How is that a locker room issue? He reminded him about not to disclose specifics on injuries.

Man, Coach either you are a fine actor behind the keyboard portraying ignorance or you are a pathetic wacko. How many times do you have to be reminded of the events that happened in a Chicago? Tomlin had nothing to do with the decision made by the players, only the edict that whatever decision they did make, whether to stand on the sideline or not, was to have it a team decision with 100% participation. If there wasn’t, stay in the locker room. All players were in the tunnel, Al asked the captains to be closer to the front because he wanted to see the colors. They freely allowed him too, why would they not? Between the anthem chaos on the field with the huge flag, Al and the team got separated by several yards. The media photographers where there to get their money shots.....then the media hype started. Yet you blame the HC, who BTW was on the sideline with all the non-player personnel for the colors, that he caused a division when there was none. GTHOH. You have a infantile level of reasoning and a agenda streak a mile long.
