Black Monday for Head Coaches

Tomlin had to turn over the ENTIRE defense. Personnel wise, we're solid and young with our front 7. Our secondary is atrocious. Ben is still in the meat of his prime and the rest of the team is quite young.

Tomlin ain't going nowhere, and this is just the beginning. He won't leave without at least 2 more rings.

I agree but I'm 55 and I don't think I have that much time left.

What did Troy say?

You tell me, what did Troy say?

I know Jackson, McCoy, and Boykin had plenty to say when they left. Hell, Murray said it while still on the roster.

Black Monday is coming up for NFL head coaches, but the Eagles didn't want to wait.

Today, Jeffrey Lurie, Chairman and CEO of the Philadelphia Eagles, released Head Coach Chip Kelly.

“We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward,” said Lurie.

Coach Pat Shurmur will be interim head coach for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Ed Marynowitz, vice president of player personnel, was also released. Tom Donahoe, former GM of the Buffalo Bills and director of football operations for the Pittsburgh Steelers and senior football advisor for the Eagles since 2012, will assume the role of senior director of player personnel.

A press conference will be held Wednesday, December 30 at the NovaCare Complex at Noon with Lurie.

Why does it have to be a Black Monday? You must be one of those racists that thinks an NFL head coach has any kind of responsibility for the level of play of his team.

I'll just tell you that you are full of **** and go find it yourself.

He's had several years now to turnover the defense. The Steelers have drafted LBs in the first round three straight years with little to show for it so far. The secondary has been atrocious for a few years now.

One would think there would be more improvement by now, especially in the secondary, with Tomlin establishing himself in the league as a DB coach.

Two more rings! Two more rings he says!

Sweet.. looks like this has turned into another Tomlin thread.

Was it last year, when many people were talking about how fresh and innovative Kelly was and how they would take him over Tomlin any day. My how quick they fall.

Over the last 3 seasons, just 2 games difference
Chip Kelly 26-21 and 0-1 in playoffs
Tomlin 28-19 and 0-1 in playoffs

Sexy Rexy....... **** spike, i thought you knew a little about football,............guess you must just read about it........... Cohwer is NOT going to come out of retirement

ha

My responses are Rorschach tests, designed to dissect the loonies....you are blubbering on about Cowher and Rex while some other dingbat is blathering on about Mangini

Very entertaining

This board has fools aplenty.......there's a couple here that wanted Greg Schiano as coach. There are a couple that mentioned Marvin Lewis .....years ago Mike Smith. The old server held all that bullshit, but it amazed me how silly some folks are when evaluating coaches.

If the Rooneys would only listen to us the team would be so much better.

well **** get him two from the gumball machine and be done with him...

as we know he will not be bring the Steelers another ring.

If I had to pick a coach, I would look at Denver's D coordinator first.

The problem with Kelly was giving him the GM duties along with the coaching duties. It allowed him to cut anyone who he didn't get along with.

He cut an all pro Guard and Pro Bowl WR/KR/PR DeShaun Jackson. Then decided to pay more for Bradford, Murray, and Cooper then he would have for Foles, Shady McCoy and Maklin.

If we dumped DeCastro, Antonio Brown, Bell, Wheaton, and Ben for nothing, our team would suck too. This team is going to be rebuilding for a bit, because they lack talent on both sides of the ball.

Secondly, I think there's something fishy in the timing of the dump. By letting him go a week early, Lurie may have just allowed him to take a college coaching position. If he's signed within 2 weeks, that was the case (and he was probably leaving the Eagles anyway).

I don't think they were trying to give Chip any benefits by letting him go early, plus all of the college jobs are already filled, unless there is a last-minute firing.

This move leaves the Titans, Dolphins and Eagles with openings. There could be another 5-8 openings before all is said and done.

Mike Tomlin isn't Chip Kelly. Not even close. Mike is a good guy and a good leader per say. I would say a real close comparison would be Marvin Lewis though Lewis had far more chops when he entered. Now Mike started off hot when it was someone else's players and Coordinator/ coaches. He has significantly cooled since and appears like Marvin to lose very strange, but yet important games.

Marvis Lewis is a great comparison. There is a guy that can put together a team that can win a division, but has done nothing in the playoffs.

Yea the only way that happens is if the HC from the pats loses two pulling his hand out of mikeys mouth after shoving it down and ripping out his nuts.
BTW does your family know you smoke crack?

Lurie wasn't afraid to pull the trigger. But Rooney will hold on to tomlineptitude forever.

Kelly had a winning record during his tenure. It's tough to win with Bradford.

Only because cincy is cheap. In another city Lewis would have been fired long ago.
