Big Dot might find himself starting the season as a backup.

It could be as simple as Dotson being aloof, not showing the proper commitment to the game, being disrespectful to coaches, not doing what's being asked of him, goofing off, not being focused or serious enough. That's my sense of what's going on. He may have come in with a big head, a big ego after a relatively successful rookie year, and just rubbed Tomlin & Coach Klemm the wrong way this spring & summer.

This is of course hyperbole, based on my observations of bits & pieces of info from the past few months.
You're right, it's hyperbole.

They just signed another prospect at guard, kid hasn't played a down in the NFL but seemed pretty good coming out of Ohio State. Lost his rookie season opting out for Covid.

Pridgeon played with Haskings at OSU. Maybe a practice squad stash for the future?

Let’s look a three reasons why you should be excited about the Texans bringing Malcolm Pridgeon into the fold.

1. A mainstay on the OSU O-line

There hasn’t been too many shakeups on the Buckeye front line over the past couple years. That’s especially true when it comes to Pridgeon. In the 2017 and 2018 seasons, the Central Islip, N.Y., product has been a mainstay. He started in every game the last two seasons; and in 2018, led the squad in snaps with 1,170. Pridgeon was also part of an O-line that helped Dwayne Haskins become the most prolific passing quarterback in Ohio State history.

Ohio State’s offensive protection was very good last season, and surrendered the third fewest sacks in the Big Ten. While Pridgeon didn’t do it all himself, he played a substantial role in making sure that Haskins didn’t wind up on the ground.

2. Success on every level

No matter where he’s been, Malcolm has had success. After his high school career at Central Islip (N.Y.), he went on to become a top junior college prospect. Playing at Nassau Community College, he was considered by 247sports as the No. 4 JUCO recruit in the 2016 class. To get that ranking, he had to become a two-time All-Northeast Football Conference athlete and a first-team NJCAA All-American.

Pridgeon has gradually improved his game at each level. The same kind of work ethic will be needed with the Texans, and it’ll probably need to happen faster than his JUCO and OSU days.

3. Big game experience

I buy big stock in guys who perform well in big games. Malcolm has done just that at Ohio State. He’s been the starter in a Cotton Bowl, a Rose Bowl, and two Big Ten Championship games. Spoiler: In all four of those games, OSU won. In the regular season, he’s held his own against the “vaunted” Michigan defense, and didn’t lose to the team up north during his time in the scarlet and gray.

The fact that Haskins balled out against Michigan and Northwestern last season proved not only how great his draft stock was, but was a testament to how well the O-line protects the QB. All of that is hard to come by when the lights are shined brightest, but Pridgeon showed in front of national television audiences that he can play with the best of them.

For not earning enough reps,..... Big Dot has his hands full.

Coach Tomlin is showing VERY good signs of excellent coaching and if you haven't noticed........ he is displaying less "tomlinisms" along the way.

I watched one of his after camp day interviews (very recent) and I don't recall a single "tomlinism" with in that interview.

I wnder if Melcolm Pidgeon has anything to do with Big Dot ?

Maybe we could get Adam Shefter to tell us the inside scoop.

OH NO!!!! CUT HIM!!! Lolz...
I already said he's going to be the starter and they should get him back into the starting lineup sooner rather than later. But right now he's the outlier with Okorafor and Banner being inserted back into the starting lineup after injury and two rookies being handed starting jobs. The coaching staff is sending a message whether you think so or not.

If anyone noticed, the new depth chart came out today. Dotson is the starter...

*******.........AAaaa !!1

Well I never look at that important stuff....................LoL

thanks Cope !!!!

Pedigeon is depth more than likely and can't blame them for bringing in guys and kicking the tires.

I've said it in another thread, Coach Tomlin is really coaching and active, thankful to see that.

He hasn’t won anything and just finally started to practice. I’m glad it’s not being given to him and he has to earn the starting job. I personally think he will eventually end up starting before the season. I also think Tomlin knows what buttons to push with what players and think his response was calculated.

lets see see how hard he works to show he bewloings as a starter hopefully vs philly he is pancaking DL

I have no problem with what Tomlin said. I didn't think Dotson played so wonderfully last season -- I guess that MT isn't quite ready to anoint the guy as the starter for the next eight to ten years just yet, like some people believe he should.

2 things to add.

1. Maybe its something he is doing outside of the game.. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense,, but if its not his work ethic ,, then what? He worked out fine in his time on the field last year.

2. WTF is up with Tomlin. Calling Haskins Mr. Checkdown, ******** on dotson now. Its rare but when he does it, its kinda ******. Calling Walace OTP.. Wonder if the HOF speeches got him fired up and now hes back to mr namecalling motivator,.
Tomlin needs to get back to Mr. Come Up With A MF'ing Game Plan And Make Halftime Adjustments. Oh wait, he was never that guy.

Directly from Dotson, as he has still yet to go through a full practice, including yesterday:

Also @Drink IRON City I also see on the Depth chart that JC is ahead of Green. JC has been completely healthy and played the entire 2nd half of the HOF game. He has yet to run with the 1s. So there's that as well.

I don't see JC starting game 1. Regardless of the listed depth chart. What say yinz?

I'll put money on him starting week 1 if he isn't injured.
That sir is a very tenuous limb to climb out on. You mean to say you think J.C. Hasselhoff, err hossenfruas .. well whatever ... The ex backup Center from Alabama will be starting game 1 for the Steelers if he isn't injured? I admire your bold imagination!

I am not making that bet, but, I have heard he is bigger and stronger and doing well.

Thanks for the DOTSON update and now things make a h@ll of lot more sense. TOMLIN coaching is awesome to point.

I want GREEN to start from day one true rookie but the bigger point is Dan Moore, he has been burning it up so long shot as it is that's who I've been nut sucking since draft. Add a root beer and all is good.!! I hope it is a true competition between Chuks & Moore, not just a give it to me chuks.

So Big Dot is injured. Take the time needed to be 100% like they do with anyone else at this time of year. When he's 100%, put him in with the 1's and see what he can do. Until then, we just have to wait.
