Ben to Have Surgery

I had the same surgery. I assume Ben is in overall better shape than I am, but I was not supposed to get back on the treadmill for 6 weeks... Even if Ben can get back in 3 weeks, he'll be hobbled and he does stink up the joint after injury returns. It'd be all well and good if the Steelers had a lights out defense, but they don't. I cringe to think of what Bwady and Gronk do to this defense. I also cringe to think what Zeke Elliott will do. I am usually pretty positive, but unless a miracle occurs, this season is over. Meanwhile I hope for a miracle. I followed them since before the 70's teams when they were at the current Browns level, so I suppose I will keep following them now.

The bye week should bring us back Heyward, Shazier and Dupree on the defense. Its also possible we see Green finally take the field. Going to look at the positives and hope for the best.

Bell and Bryant had enough positives....bazinga

I question the team medical staff. Tomlin if he has the stones can rest Ben until he's ready.

You might be right, but I'll go the other way and say our self described degenerate gambler has some survival instincts and knows full well if Ben comes back too soon and gets hurt he'll be one step closer to the hot seat.

I knew you were a HS coach but didn't realize you were also an orthopedic surgeon. I used to play golf with one who always answered my questions by saying I hope you don't think I would be so dumb as to render a diagnosis without examining the patient or his tests.

After that poor attempt of a pass from Landry and the coaching staff having an injured Ben go back into the game, they have little to zero confidence in Jones. Why he is on the team is a mystery. Has to be $ and hoping Ben doesn't go down. Also, on that series, LBell has two really good runs to get back 14 of the 15 yards back after the penalty and they let noodle arm throw it. Stupid!

Sure Shazier will be back.... Sure...

Obviously above the neck coaching had some missing parts. We'll go back to the lab and dissect the tape.

Salute the nation

I'm just going to assume that anyone who is considered a star, or an important player, for us cannot be relied upon to be on the field. Period. This is how I will maintain peace of mind as a fan of this team for the foreseeable future. It is simply not worth it to predict our team's level of success based on what the roster is "supposed" to be. Just look at who is second on the depth chart at every position and decide how good THAT team is.

Sure Shazier will be back.... Sure...

That's my thoughts, as well. Even if he does come back, it's a matter of how many plays until he is on the sideline again.

If we could turn injuries (and suspensions) off like Madden, we have the best team in the NFL and I'm not sure it's even close. But as it stands, we are a top 10 but not championship-caliber NFL team

**** all of this. Colbert has actually done a nice job building out the roster but we're left with the dried up rotting skeleton of it after the injury vulture has ravaged its carcass.

Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game. We have a good amount of injuries especially now after Ben going down but the team has to overcome them and right now, it doesn't look promising.
I hate the Cowboys but they have had their fair share of injuries and they're still playing great football (hopefully it doesn't last).

I still think Mettenberger can hold up well. Implement Bell and D will to carry the load and simplify the passing plays for Mettenberger. James and Grimble should be open on underneath routes. AB will always be a threat. Coates, DHB, and the rest will need to step it up now. Season is not over. Just got tough. That's all

Done. Another season wasted. Potential for home field and #7 now back to maybe a Wild Card or win a weak division.

One playoff win in 6 years. 5-11 against bad teams. The problem lies at the top, and this team will become the Browns when Ben is gone.

Love your negativity........

Minus Ben I think we are around .500. So how does that translate to 5-11 when we move on without him ?

This place seems like a bunch of teenage girls that learned prom was cancelled.

And you ALWAYS place the blame on Ben, and come back to defend the coaches when the team ***** the bed. Yes, Ben sucked yesterday. Yes, he should have called more running plays. Yes, the coach watches the progression of the game and SHOULD step in when the QB continues to make the wrong calls. Yes, the coaches should see the QB can't throw the ball and remove him from the game due to injury. Whether it be Haley or Tomlin, one must step up and take control.

The same reason why Shamarko and Jarvis are still on the team. It's no mystery. Stubborn Steelers refuse to admit they were wrong. Landry is no Jimmy Garoppolo

Dupree? Doubt that one. My guess is he is at least 4 to 6 weeks out, if he comes back at all. Last I heard about a week ago he was only walking. He hadn't even started any kind of real rehab.

Next week is going to be ugly. QB and OLB should be taken in the first 5 rounds of next year's draft.

No more linebackers in the first round. They always end up being China dolls (DuPree, Shazier, Jones)

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger when they host the New England Patriots Sunday in what had looked to be a showdown between two of the best teams in the AFC.

Roethlisberger suffered a slight tear in the meniscus of his left knee in Pittsburgh’s 30-15 loss at Miami Sunday and had a surgical procedure Monday morning back in Pittsburgh to repair the issue.

Sources say the procedure was completed without any issues.

Roethlisberger was injured midway through the second quarter of the loss to the Dolphins but returned at the start of the second half. Team doctors assured him he could do no further damage to the knee
.

Roethlisberger, who entered the week with an NFL-best 15 touchdown passes in the first five weeks of the season, was ineffective against the Dolphins, finishing 19 of 34 for 189 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

After playing the Patriots (5-1) this week, the Steelers (4-2) have their bye week and then head to Baltimore for an AFC North showdown. Roethlisberger is expected to return for that game.

Landry Jones is expected to start Sunday against the Patriots, while Zach Mettenberger, signed earlier this season, will be the backup.

I recall a week ago Labs was discussing the next man up idea and how it was working. He also said that it was likely only able to continue to work to a point before the roster is too depleted to field a quality team. We saw that on Sunday. I do not have the list of everyone that the team was with out that they had hopes for this season nor the walking wounded but can safely say it was fairly significant. I believe the team hit the point where they lost too many players to be decent. If some of the players out were replaced by back ups they may can continue but there was a lot of new guys on the field that were not likely ready for prime time yet.

Laundry did not even look like he was ready to come into the game. On the sideline prior to his short awful stint he was just standing there and did not seem to be trying to warm up his arm prior to entering the game. That seemed to be a very poor effort on his part.

The thing regarding Miami that might have made a difference was the shake up with the team and possibly them getting their act together to play as a team. Sometimes during a season a team will get it together and play well for one or a few games. It looks like Miami played decent yesterday and stuck with it. Heat may have taken it's toll on the team as well as everything else. When you have a **** effort and another team has a high effort game you get the games like this.

I am not at all pleased with Jones as the relief of Ben, hopefully our number three guy will replace dirty laundry before the next game.

Injury after injury after injury... now where have I heard that before? Oh yeah... 5 - 0 baby, Go Vikings!

Skol

always helps to have a back-up plan. Steelers clearly don't.
