Bell Reinforces Sit Out After Steelers Place Franchise Tag

As for Bell, at this point I don't really care whether he INTENDS to be here from "Day One" this year or not. His act is getting to be tiresome. And, the fact is that if there's no long-term deal by July, we can look forward to hearing about/dealing with the fall out throughout the season. Let his agent find a team willing and able to give him a long-term deal to his liking and trade him. Use the money and draft picks to fix the other areas that need to be addressed and to make the team a stronger team throughout the roster.

As been mentioned by numerous folks here, Tagging a player doesn’t mean a trade will happen. Bell has to sign the Tag, and Pitt wants comp commensurate with his talent. Pitt wants Bell, because of his value in this offense. He’s tagged exclusive, so the comp is 2 no. 1 picks. It’s in the CBA. So the tag cost is worth keeping him in the plan UNTIL there is an alternative available. If you think those on the FA list can produce like Bell did, it’s no wonder you comprehension skills are nil. Answer this genius, how many first down catches and carries did Bell produce compared to the FA? Might I add, they don’t have the cap room even to sign the top even if they cut Mitchell or restructure someone else.

Hey Ike,

Non exclusive is for 2 firsts if another team makes an offer and the Steelers don't match.

Exclusive rights. The Steelers would have to set the value of the trade with another trade partner, but the trade would most likely be for less than the 2 firsts of a non exclusive rights tagged player. Bell would also have to sign the tender for the trade to go through.

If this happens, it would happen at the end of the summer when Bell signs the tag, or the Steelers would have to work with Bell's agent to ensure the team Bell would go to is signing him to a new multi year contract, and would have to be done before the July 19 deadline for extending a tagged player.

And when you pointing out that Coach was either being racist or ignorant .....was that bringing much football talk to the table? SMH

Was his post bringing much "football talk to the table"? Didn't see you pointing out that or getting all bent out of shape. But, I see you'd like to continue THIS unrelated thread of conversation. Maybe we can take it to PM rather than airing your grievance (non-football related as it is) on a "football thread". That way, you don't seem so hypocritical. Otherwise, we can just end the whole conversation by agreeing to disagree like gentlemen. ;)

Right Cope. I’m on the same page. With the exclusive the team has the sole negotiating rights to the player. In other words, player can’t do anything except sign the tag (which is guaranteed) or wait and see if the team finds a willing partner to their terms.

My explanation to Mr. Genius on numerous occasions is Pitt is going to only accept the parameters of the non-exclusive UNLESS they have succession plan already in place. There is nobody who can perform what he does on the current roster. Additionally, as much as Coach harps on a measly 4.0 ypc by Bell, he doesn’t take into account his receiving touches and most importantly, his average to 1st down per touch figure which is probably better than anyone on the FA list.

Pitt may settle for a lessor comp if after or through the draft they get a solid player. I doubt it. Because everything is set with this offense WITH Bell in it. Without him it decreases the ability of the unit as a whole.

There is another poster on here that starts threads about Bell's rap that he makes up...have you ever called him out for it? Nope, but Coach comes along and it is quite obvious he wasn't being racist or ignorant and here you show up calling him as much...maybe.
 
Funny at the beginning of this process I was dead set against anything but signing Bell. But his act is old. His little snippy *** comments to people. His unwillingness to come down a little on his wants. His holdout and coming in rusty last year, and it looks like he is hellbent to rinse and repeat. Other day he said something to a reporter something in reference to pay that is why he was a RB and they were a reporter. You can tell he is just a classic ********. And I love the way Bell plays. Especially his pass catching ability. I just think if he isn't satisfied by now with the Steelers offer. Perhaps they both should do something different so at least the Steelers get something from him. Not just let him walk next year and get nothing in return.

Unless they really think they can sign him long term. But Bell doesn't give that vibe.

I really wish at this point they would trade him. They won't but I wish they would.

I'm sure they will be drafting someone and/or signing a FA. While most likely Bell will be there week 1 our FO would be foolish expecting that.

You have yourself a good evening buddy. Try not to stroke out about any posts that you don't like. We all have different opinions .... and are entitled to them. Mine happens to differ from yours. Neither of us will lose sleep or money over it.

You are the one that is getting "stroke out" about me not agreeing with you. In every post, I just continue to state how I don't think Coach's rap song was racist or ignorant. Again...that's it. Simply I don't think his intent was either. You come back every time with your typical jab at me and then say afterward...let's just agree to disagree. Nah, I could care less what you believe or whether you agree with me. And, i think you need to re-read. You didn't start out stating "how you didn't think Coach's crap song was racist or ignorant. And, it's you that really desires to keep this little "conversation" going on the board rather than someplace more appropriate. Would love it if they could swing a deal with the perpetually stupid Jets. Flip picks in the first round and get the the Jets' second, for Bell. Would solve our safety problem with Derwin James at #6 and use #37 on a RB.

He is beginning to run everyone in wrong way, I fell not sorry for him no matter what and would not be disappointed if the Steelers got rid of him.
