Beachum torn ACL

an injury replacement at LT is far scarier than C. Just like with jones or any other new replacement, once teams have gamefilm on a player, they find tendencies and weaknesses... that's why a guy can come off the bench, look great, then blow the next week. Hope he is up to it next week and each one afterwards

Villanueva is exactly 6'-9" and said to be in the 330# range as of now. He has the size and the quickness to be good BUT it will take some playing time against some 1st string NFL level talent. He will get his chance...who else do we have.

Next week will tell the tale. On the road vs the Kansas City pass rush

I'm hoping both Beachum and Pouncey will both be back in a couple of weeks.

His length should help against some pass rushers, but others will be able to use their leverage to shove him backward. Will be interesting to see how he settles into a starting role.

Villanueva will fill in nicely. Given his military background I think fundamentally and physically he is going to be sound. I think this guy may end up being the unsung hero of this roster. Having a long reach helps as well

I believe Pouncey is lost for the season heard he got an infection besides his injury. That's at least on the last report from yesterday. I think we need to look for some OL players in case anything else happens to anyone else getting injured.

Pouncey hasn't been ruled officially out for the season yet. Still waiting on a 2nd opinion.

RangerUp at left tackle. Will be cool to watch a US Army Ranger protecting our QB

I'm going on record right now as saying I hope he can be our Johnathan Ogden

Pouncey would have been but they had to open his leg up to cut out the infection and remove the plate they put in. I got an infection in my shoulder after rotator cuff surgery in Dec. 2011 and had to have two more surgeries plus a month on IV antibiotics every 8 hours and Mrs. Burgundy had to have a plate and 6 of 7 screws taken out of her leg that was broken in the same place as Pouncey's, so based on personal experience I'd say he's done for the season,

From 2011 thru 2014 me and Mrs. Burgundy had 13 surgeries between us, 11 with the same orthopedic surgeon and 2 big toe joint replacements she had from my cousin the podiatrist. Getting old sucks, try to avoid it.

NEXT MAN UP: Tomlin confirmed an ACL injury has ended left tackle Kelvin Beachum's season.

Alejandro Villanueva took over on the Steelers' first possession of the second quarter and finished the game, but not in a manner that satisfied his expectations.

"I gotta get lower, I gotta get faster, I gotta get sharper," Villanueva said "I can play a lot better. My coaches expect me to play a lot better. That's what I hope to do."

Villanueva has been dressing as the "swing" tackle, a reserve deemed capable of playing on either the left or right side.

He interpreted his insertion into the game at left tackle as a positive sign. The Steelers opted not to move right tackle Marcus Gilbert, a much more experienced player, to the left side and play Villanueva at right tackle.

"That gives me the idea that they trust me, to put the ball in my hand," Villanueva said. "It's up to me to go out there and perform. I gotta get with 'Munch' (offensive line coach Mike Munchak) and get in the study room and continue to perfect my skills so I can play up to the level they expect me to play."

We just lost beachum to a torn ACL. Bad luck for a guy during a contract year. Go Villnueva. Your time is now!

Beachum wasn't playing up to his usual par. He had given up a few sacks and had too many penalties. If Villanueva can hold his own at left tackle, the Steelers will save 8-11 million in cap space, as that is what Beachum will be going for as a free agent.

He might get this or might not now. He might not even be ready for next season.

Beachum isn't getting that big dollar contract. If he is back next season it will be a one year deal to see how his knee is. No one is signing a LT to a long term contract with an ACL repair happening. Sucks that Beachum didn't get paid before this season but he sure isn't getting paid now. We will be actively looking for a LT in the drat or UFA (my best guess).

I think the big guy gets every opportunity to win and keep the LT job..the fact that they put him in at LT instead of moving Gilbert over speaks volumes. I also think his development along with Beachums lack of prototypical stature is why we didn't break the bank on Beachum over the summer

I don't believe Villanueva will be overwhelmed by the task. Dude served three @#$%ing tours in Afghanistan.

Yes, Chiefs fans are loud ... but they are not shooting at you.

I don't think he will be rattled either I was more referring to the two OLB they employ who will be aided by the crowd noise

feel bad for Beach, he's being nothing but a great addition to the team since drafted in the 7th round overcoming the low expectations about him and becoming the best player of 2014 Oline.
I bet he was offered something close or above what Gilbert got, it probably was fair price and would have secured his future. People get greedy and sometimes it bites them in the ***. I mean, 7 millions a year? you could do anything with that kind of money, why would you risk it for one or two more?

Remember Colon? Didn't he tear his ACL and we then handed him a nice fat contract? So don't say no one.....Tombert just might throw him an offer.

Does this mean he'll be cheaper to resign in the offseason?

The first call I would make in the locker room after this would be to my agent firing his ***. I do not know how much the Steelers offered BUT he made 1.54 million this year. Not too shabby but he will probably only get the league min next year and probably can't sign with anyone until after the season starts because he will have to pass a physical. If the Steelers offered 6 yr 36 million with a 10 million bonus and 12 guaranteed he would have been way better off signing that than what he will end up making in his career now.
