Beachum makes it clear he is a left tackle "only"

I think him and TJ Lang are the shortest LT both at just 6"2 but both are quick at kicking out to buy thier prized qb's time to operate out of 4 or 5 wide sets. I am hoping no one offers him anything greater than 6 mill and we can work out a reasonable 6 year 38 million 8 mill SB type extension, |he wont get anything close to Lane Jhonson, Trent Williams, Tyrone Williams type cash, once he sees the hill on the other side is not greaner, I see him coming back, and us locking him and DeCastro 6 years 42 million 10 mill sb.
Pay Cuts
Cortez
Mitchell
Heyward
Pouncey

these are the only higly paid guys you can approach to open up cap room to see we can adda free agent CB or a S like Weddle.

He'd be crazy to go into negotiations as anything but a LT. I know we steeler fans always looked at him as a stop gap, but somewhere along the way he actually became a better than average LT. Some team will pay him like one. Not a top notch one, but still more than what the steelers can afford.

I'm sure once he gets paid LT money, he won't care where he actually lines up.

I'm interested to see what Munchak can do with Mike Adams. He did wonders with Villanueva and he helped Gilber a ton. Adams has been a disappointment but even DeCastro wasn't killing it prior to Munchak. Let's not forget that Adams was a 1st round talent who only fell due to some off field concerns. If he's healthy and has his head on straight, Munchak may be able to make him into something.

Steelers can afford to keep all their free agents.

They are in the best cap shape they have been in awhile.

Will they overpay to keep a short coming off injury LT ? probably not

Will Beachum command that type of money?

that's the ongoing debate, we'll see

As a person, and player, I like Beachum. But, I think he's being a bit greedy, personally...

I hope we have a plan to keep the OL is a stable state.

Greedy how? If you have a value in your head of your worth why would you want to be paid less then what you think you're worth. From everything I've read he just seems like a down to earth guy who wants to get paid what he thinks he's worth. You got to remember this a 7th round pick who worked his butt off to become a starting LT in the NFL. That's quite an achievement. When he got drafted he bought a 2007 chevy tahoe off his dad for $9000 and still drives it today. He's been our starter for 3 years and barely made 2 million in that time which is peanuts for a starting LT. I wouldn't call it greedy to want more money than that.

People want to talk about the likes of Jarvis Jones being a bust because he is not living up to where he was drafted or the amount of money he is being paid. Yet we have a guy who has done the opposite and deserves more money and some people want to begrudge him for it. Can't win lol

He wants his payday, just like any of us he wants to earn his full potential. I can't blame him for wanting to maximize his value. He will be paid by someone as there are teams that have cap situations that force them into some bigger signings to reach the salary cap floor (I believe it's 80%). I just hope we don't overpay for him when we have Munchak making lemonade, we still have Gilbert,Villy and Adams so it's not quite a dire situation forcing our hand. Pay Munchak whatever he wants to retain him tho, coaches don't count against the cap and he can save us millions on OL allocations that could go to repair that secondary.

Decent LTs are hard to find. I won't be surprised if another team signs him to a big contract. Steelers will have to sign AV and either Foster or another LG.

We will all be shocked at how much Beachum gets paid. It only takes one team and left tackle is a premium position. The good news is that AV is already signed for next season and we will be able to keep him cheaply in 2017 too. It would be great if Foster re-signs so we don't have spend a premium draft pick at that position. It's also important to have continuity with Foster and AV. But if a team wants to overpay Foster, we'll let him walk...there's a price that we won't exceed for a 30-year old guard when we've already committed heavily to Pouncey, Gilbert and we're going to re-up DeCastro to a monster deal in August.

Ranger Al is like 80% as good as Beachum (and improving) at what will be about 20% of the money so I let him walk and keep Ranger Al.

Doubtful with his injury. Plus the draft is deeper this year at LT so the non contenders will rebuild there, and the contending teams are pretty much set at LT. Free agency won't be so easy for Beachum. It'll be interesting to see if he gets a contract offer anything close to what the Steelers offered him. He may not now, but that's the risk you take when you hold out for free agency then get injured.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. IT ONLY TAKES ONE TEAM to think Beachum can be a solid, starting LT for him to get paid handsomely.

Someone will sign him...................................................it won't be us

see the patriots giving him a 2 years 20 million dollars contract like they like to do, with 12 guaranteed

He is an overachiever and that's great for him and the team he plays for but he is not stellar and shouldn't be paid like one

Unlike most of the rest of us, NFL salaries continually rise. So, he maybe paid like a top 10 OT merely because it is a year later, with 10 million more in cap space for each team, so, even though he is merely "decent" LT, he will likely be paid like he is better than that.

His biggest weakness is he is short. I don't really know how much that has to do with blocking ability unless your entire body is smallish. He has a dump truck butt and some fierceness in his play. Those two things matter more than height.

Update: some already had him at a top 10 LT. He will get a pretty big deal from someone.
