AXE FALLS in HOUSTON ....... bye bye Bill O'Brien

Coach the GM: "What's your position on the relevance of head size to playing ability?"

Coach the HC Candidate; "I will say with my dying breath that Polamalu was an exception. He never should have made it. Head was entirely too big. Now Chickillo, there was a guy whose head said 'Hall Of Fame'. I don't think he was used right in Pittsburgh."

Coach the GM: "You're hired! Now get out. I've got to call Cleveland and see how many first round picks they'll give me for A.J. McCarron."
Oh chyt!!! I just lost another drink!!!

If Cooch were the GM, would be he even interview Cooch for the head coaching position? How would that go anyway?

Thanks. I'd have a spot for you in the organization. No worries, tackling dummy, and the janitor for the bathroom would be open for you. Camp turk would be tricky, as there's lots of really good a holes here. I'd have to think about that one.

O'brien mostly did a good job there. The roster was never that good. He kept making the playoffs with **** QBs. Reports were that they were all set to draft Mahomes and the Chiefs traded up ahead of them. Texans GM Rick Smith then panicked and drafted Watson a bit high. Supposedly O'Brien never wanted Watson.

O'Brien and Smith kept butting heads and the owners knew they had to choose to keep Smith or O'Brien. They kept O'Brien who at that point was stuck with Watson. He traded away a 1st rounder to get LT Laremy Tunsil. Steep price but he got a solid LT and their OL improved quite a bit.

O'Brien takes heat for the Hopkins trade but the fact was that Hopkins was going to hold out. He wanted to be highest paid WR. They could not have kept Hopkins and also gave Watson a big contract.

I bet O'Brien wishes that he traded away Watson. That may not have been an option as a move like that would have to be signed off by owners and i'm guessing the owners would not part with their only marketable player. He was stuck with Watson and had to get what he could for Hopkins. People talk about him trading away 1st rounders but remember that he came from the Pats and they routinely trade out of the first round, so his experience is that you don't necessarily need 1st rounders to have good drafts.

Now without Hopkins, Watson is struggling. By the time O'Brien took over as GM, that ship was already sinking and Watson could be the anchor. I think in terms of coaching, O'Brien got the most out of the talent and even got them to overachieve most years.

Texans are now tied to Watson. They absolutely must hire a coach who will install a college style read option offense. Watson has subpar arm strength. He needs that run action to open the field for him. Bienemey will be the hot name no doubt, with what he's doing with Mahomes. But will the Texans wait for the Chiefs to be eliminated from the playoffs? Coaches on teams that go deep in the playoffs often miss out on jobs.

They could go with a hot name college coach. Tom Herman at Texas and Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma would have been hot names but they are cooling off quickly after bad losses. I think Florida coach Dan Mullen could be the guy.

Interesting notion. Could the Texans hire away a PAC 12 couch right now? Maybe Oregon's Mario Cristobal? Pac 12 is only playing a 6 game schedule starting in November and they had a bunch of guys opt out. Maybe you fire O'Brien now because you convinced Cristobal to jump ship.

we all ***** about the Steeler's play calling but the Texans have seemed ******* clueless most games.

I think they are going to take their time and due their due diligence and then **** up the decision again during the offseason.

Well they are from Houston.

Maybe they will take Tomlin in exchange for their 1st round pick. A guy can dream.

Yes they are tied to Watson, and JJ Watt, neither is worth the cap money they are making. Tunsil is a good left tackle, not a great one and is scheduled to make 19.4 million in 2021. He's not worth that amount.

They also gave a washed up David Johnson 11 million a year. Had they passed on Johnson, perhaps Hopkins could gave been on the team, and their offense would have a chance.

This team is going to be bad for a while. The GM, whomever he is should be gone, and the next GM is needs to clean house. Like the Steelers, they are in negative cap space as of right now for 2021.

they killed that team when they traded Hopkins...

The GM is the one that should go bye-bye..

Another failure that fell from the Belicheat tree. I guess all these guys that worked for Belicheat just never learned to cheat the way he does. (current as of Jan of this year)

Bill O’Brien, Texans 54–48 (.529)
Matt Patricia, Lions 9–22–1 (.297)
Brian Flores, Dolphins 5–11 (.313)
Romeo Crennel 28–55 (.337)
Al Groh 9–7 (NFL)
Josh McDaniels 11–17 (.393)
Eric Mangini 33–48 (.407)
Jim Schwartz 29–52 (.358)
Nick Saban, Alabama 15–17 (.469) (NFL)
Jason Garrett, Cowboys (via Saban) 87–70 (.554)
Adam Gase, Jets (via Saban) 30–35 (.462)
Joe Judge, Giants

Coaching tree stats

Combined record: 281-330-1
Playoff appearances: 8
Super Bowl titles: 0

Just like all the QBs who have left that place in New England. All supposed to be stud QBs who would be a great pickup for someone. They all suck when they don't know the other teams plays in advance. Matt Cassel, Ryan Mallett, Garoppolo (Okay in the regular season - stillers shoulda beat him - folded in the SB). Witness the GOAT's first game with the Bucs ..... we'll have to see how that goes. Cheatin' bastids.

they don't have a first round pick next draft

That never stopped cooch from wanting a trade before, hell I hear Bell could still be had for two of Cleveland's number 1s.

Wow, I did not know he was the Coach AND GM. Now I know what it's like to be Coach...

Just Coach? I figured you might now know what it feels like to be Coach and GM.

No you don't. He would never say "Wow I did not know" that is just not in him to do.
You have the guts to admit being wrong without having to try and weasel out of being wrong.
