Hey Covid Crew!

Start posting questions, I'll start answering after 8pm tonight. Not sure if it's going to be a whiskey or beer night tonight.

Ben's back,
Odd rules,
Rookies,
Receivers,
Home life

Whatever you want to talk about, minus politics.

Whatcha drinkin?

Cope will BEN reach the 5,000 yard plateau this season and if so, or not, will he be in the MVP race.

Will Lamar Jackson have close to a repeat performance of last season (I think no)

Does Rednose play in either of the browns games

How have you been and is the whole family doing OK ?

This is a statement Definitely can't wait for training camp and STEELERS football to help many of us to offset the pandemic that we have all been dealing with. ALSO thank you for these "ask Cope" threads they are funny / serious / informative / and can bring a good laugh. PeAce brother

Iron City. I'm gonna chime in with Ben 5000. I dont want him anywhere near that. I believe the formula for a SB is about 3700 well placed yards and a serious run game and top five defense with major takeaways.

I understand you grew up and reside in Maryland, do or have you visited Rehoboth Beach. I have a sister and her son who reside there, use to visit there often and even though I now live on the westcoast, I still visit with my family when I get a chance. Always liked that area.

We have seen the resurgence of a DEF in Pittsburgh....... I enjoy watching a 3 & OUT more than just about anything else ....as I feel it means all levels of the DEF are working together and it sucks the will out of opposing teams.... rank your DEF wishlist in order
eg.
3 & OUT
forced fumble
INT
pass Defend
Whoooooo Hit
successful Coach's challenge

on OFFENSE

TD pass 40+ yards
Rushing TD 20+ yards
running out the clock via the ground game 4th quarter
redzone TD
300 yards passing
100 yard rusher
100 yard receiver
2 or less punts in a game

all of those things above are awesome....... but how does your version of importance stack up against mine

Agree with you Sask ......Balance ....balance ....balance....

I would love to see play calls that are unpredictable..... and utilize the skill sets of personnel..

I'm not expecting 5k yards. I'm expecting high 3ks. If he hits 5k in yardage, and the Steelers win the division, he will be in the MVP discussion

Will Lamar Jackson have close to a repeat performance of last season (I think no)

No. He's Kordell Stewart. Remember the ping pong years with him. Good one year, bad the next? That's Jackson. If you look at their stats, it's stop the run and force Lamar to beat you with his arm. Going to be a sobering year for Ravens fans.

Does Rednose play in either of the browns games

How have you been and is the whole family doing OK ?

Yes, we're good. I work from home anyway, so not much has changed my routine, except the rest of the family is home with me. My wife is a librarian who also does real estate (in MD if anyone needs help!). My daughter is in first grade and just negotiated a 4 day school work week. I'm proud of her! I do really like having the family at home though.

I love doing these, because we all get to have a good time!!

Hey KStill!

I grew up in the Williamsport PA area, then went to middle school in Hershey PA. High school was TImonium MD and college was UMBC in Catonsville, MD. Lived in Philly area for 13 years and now I'm back in MD. I really like the Rohoboth area too. My mom has a beach condo in northern OC. There's a great Flying Dog brewpub in Rehoboth area, plus their main plant in Milton DE isn't far away. Tons to do there, and a great vacation spot. I try to get there once or twice a year, since we have a place to stay!

My favorite is the Sack/fumble where the LB brings down the hammer and the ball hits the ground. We've always had players that excel at that with Lloyd, Harrison, Porter, and now Watt! That is my favorite play on D aside from a defensive TD of course, Then in order - Forced fumble on a big hit, Interception, Big hit, PD (goes for linemen knocking down a pass as well, love those!, then 3&out and a challenge.

on OFFENSE

TD pass 40+ yards
Rushing TD 20+ yards
running out the clock via the ground game 4th quarter
redzone TD
300 yards passing
100 yard rusher
100 yard receiver
2 or less punts in a game

Big plays that end in TDs are always the best. I like the big TD throw the best, followed by the long TD run. We haven't had a homerun runner since Willie Parker though, hoping McFarland is the new Sweet Titties! Redzone TD next, then running out a clock. The rest are stats that happen with success of the offense during a game, so I'd say 2 punts or less means lots of scoring, then the rest of the stats are just a record of what happened, and it doesn't affect me much, but 100 yard rusher is always a touch accomplishment, so I'd probably lean on that stat above the rest.

Me too Paul, and the talent the Steelers have on offense, lends itself to mismatches with the right OC.

Hey Blitz!

I know you know phase 1 has started on Friday, so places of business have reopened, including retail, with distancing still being a large part of it. I can walk on the beach, hike, horseback ride, hunt, or golf. So there is plenty more to do now than we could earlier. I actually disc golf and enjoy that a lot. Much cheaper than golf anyway...

Everything is looking good, and as long as the numbers don't go up, we should see incremental openings every 2 weeks. So if we're on pace, by the end of June, we should be as close to normal without a vaccine, as we can get.

Very cool, my first trip to the shore was Fenwick Island just north of OC. I understand Dogfish Brewery has expanded the Rehoboth pub quite a bit over the last year or so. Looking forward to revisiting.

What's your fave steak to grill?

There is only one cut of steak I eat anymore, and that's a fillet. As raw as possible. If I'm getting one at an expensive steak joint, I want it seared on the outside and mooing on the inside. I don't eat much beef at all. Maybe once or twice a year, but you better be sure it's a rare fillet!

I used to love Black Diamond steaks as well. I grew up on them and my dad used to buy them by the case from his friend that owned a restaurant. They were always perfectly seasoned and tender as hell.

I also enjoy steak tar tar, but I only eat that when I'm in France...

What kind of Tequilla? I really like Milagro silver, and Cabo Wabo in the blue bottle.

I'm on whiskey tonight. Bullett rye and regular!

I just grilled filets tonight! With some potatoes au gratin and some steamed broccoli.

No questions ATM.

Yeah, a good filet is where it's at! People talk about ribeyes and whatnot, but nothing beats a good filet.

Did you go whiskey or beer?

What's your poison if you went whiskey? I'm a bourbon guy for 30+ years, and like to mix it up... Woodford, Knob Creek, but my go to is the one that got me into the game many years ago, Wild Turkey 101 (rocks).

Just to throw in a football related question, which of the veteran, free agent, starting QB's would you have liked the Steelers to have brought in as insurance (Marriota, Winston, Dalton, any of the above/none of the above).

I don't quite understand the movement from the days when the Steelers had a decent veteran QB presence backup, ie Batch, Leftwich, etc. I think more than one season was saved by having a competent veteran come in and start games during a BB injury. Now having multiple, developmental QB's seems a detriment?

And I agree on the enjoyment of having the family around more (I work nights, so I get to see my 1st grader more now than ever... on that, I'm at work so no drinking tonight!)

Be well!

I do miss Charlie Batch.

SteelerSask, I don't want him to hit 5000 either as it was just a question combined with MVP talk. Balance is the true way to a championship. When there is more than 10% difference in run / pass or pass / run, the defense can tee off and guess 95+% of which it is going to be (remember "D's" teeing off in the Ariens ere).

We are both on the same page and thanks for the clarity along the way. Bottom line is it's working keep with it because #7 is the end result.

Did you go whiskey or beer?

Both! Really it depends on my mood. Usually beer during the day and whiskey at night. Love craft beer, German, Irish, and Belgian beers.

What's your poison if you went whiskey? I'm a bourbon guy for 30+ years, and like to mix it up... Woodford, Knob Creek, but my go to is the one that got me into the game many years ago, Wild Turkey 101 (rocks).

I started with Wild Turkey in College and some Famous Grouse. Then didn't touch whiskey until a friends dad turned me on to Belvenine Double wood in 2004. Since then I've opened my drinking, went through the bourbons, then Irish whiskeys, then Scotches, and now love Islay Scotch. Lagavulan 16 is the most consistant whiskey I've ever had. For Burboun, I like Bulleit Rye and the regular as well. I always have that on hand. Really like Monkey Shoulder as a blended scotch that is very consistent. Ardbeg is another good Islay. I really like some peat and smoke in my whiskey at times.

Just to throw in a football related question, which of the veteran, free agent, starting QB's would you have liked the Steelers to have brought in as insurance (Marriota, Winston, Dalton, any of the above/none of the above).

I liked Winston as the best option, his youth, his ability, and his price. I understand why they didn't do it, but he's a FA next year, and may be the Steelers pickup.
Also here's a darkhorse, if the season starts and Ben gets injured, I want to bring in Flacco. Same size/ and very similar style. Not as good as a passer as Ben, but he's a bit more mobile, and still tough to bring down.

I don't quite understand the movement from the days when the Steelers had a decent veteran QB presence backup, ie Batch, Leftwich, etc. I think more than one season was saved by having a competent veteran come in and start games during a BB injury. Now having multiple, developmental QB's seems a detriment?

It's a strategy. The Eagles always develop QBs. They always have 2 or 3 on the roster, and sometimes bring in vets. But they develop the QB then trade them for draft capital. Steelers have started developing, and got a 4th for Dobbs, when he would have been the 4th best QB on the roster last year. Steelers tried to get capital for Landry as well, but failed. I like the progression of Mason, but it takes time to develop backups. I think he's the best development project we've had. Better than Landry, Dobbs, Tee Martin, et all. He's accurate, he's a winner, and he got more wins last year 5, than any vet QB we had since we got Ben.

And I agree on the enjoyment of having the family around more (I work nights, so I get to see my 1st grader more now than ever... on that, I'm at work so no drinking tonight!)

Nice! I have a 1st grader too! They're a hoot!

Be well!

Answered above!

Yes, I guess you are drinking, because you had said earlier you had a 1st grader, so I gave up that info off of that! lol

I came into my current marriage with no kids of my own, but walked into 4 step kids! Then, 12, 10, 8 and 6. Now ages 21, 19, 18 and 15! Adding our little guy in '13, who is now 6, finishing up 1st grade at home!!! Yikes!

I can't do Bulleit bourbon, but I really like their Rye. The peat/smokey flavor of Scotch is not for me. I like the more oaky, sweetness for the White Oak barrels bourbon is aged in. I do like some Irish whiskey. Really enjoy the Jamison Cask Mates, aged in the Guiness barrels. Not a big beer drinker, but I do like Spaten, Stella, if I'm going to have a couple.

In a pinch, I could live with Flacco, if Rudolph shows he can't handle it (again). I just wouldn't mind a developmental QB and a veteran, but multiple developmental QB's almost guarantees they won't be competitive if BB goes down, and the efforts of incredible D play will be wasted again.
