Did you go whiskey or beer?
Both! Really it depends on my mood. Usually beer during the day and whiskey at night. Love craft beer, German, Irish, and Belgian beers.
What's your poison if you went whiskey? I'm a bourbon guy for 30+ years, and like to mix it up... Woodford, Knob Creek, but my go to is the one that got me into the game many years ago, Wild Turkey 101 (rocks).
I started with Wild Turkey in College and some Famous Grouse. Then didn't touch whiskey until a friends dad turned me on to Belvenine Double wood in 2004. Since then I've opened my drinking, went through the bourbons, then Irish whiskeys, then Scotches, and now love Islay Scotch. Lagavulan 16 is the most consistant whiskey I've ever had. For Burboun, I like Bulleit Rye and the regular as well. I always have that on hand. Really like Monkey Shoulder as a blended scotch that is very consistent. Ardbeg is another good Islay. I really like some peat and smoke in my whiskey at times.
Just to throw in a football related question, which of the veteran, free agent, starting QB's would you have liked the Steelers to have brought in as insurance (Marriota, Winston, Dalton, any of the above/none of the above).
I liked Winston as the best option, his youth, his ability, and his price. I understand why they didn't do it, but he's a FA next year, and may be the Steelers pickup.
Also here's a darkhorse, if the season starts and Ben gets injured, I want to bring in Flacco. Same size/ and very similar style. Not as good as a passer as Ben, but he's a bit more mobile, and still tough to bring down.
I don't quite understand the movement from the days when the Steelers had a decent veteran QB presence backup, ie Batch, Leftwich, etc. I think more than one season was saved by having a competent veteran come in and start games during a BB injury. Now having multiple, developmental QB's seems a detriment?
It's a strategy. The Eagles always develop QBs. They always have 2 or 3 on the roster, and sometimes bring in vets. But they develop the QB then trade them for draft capital. Steelers have started developing, and got a 4th for Dobbs, when he would have been the 4th best QB on the roster last year. Steelers tried to get capital for Landry as well, but failed. I like the progression of Mason, but it takes time to develop backups. I think he's the best development project we've had. Better than Landry, Dobbs, Tee Martin, et all. He's accurate, he's a winner, and he got more wins last year 5, than any vet QB we had since we got Ben.
And I agree on the enjoyment of having the family around more (I work nights, so I get to see my 1st grader more now than ever... on that, I'm at work so no drinking tonight!)
Nice! I have a 1st grader too! They're a hoot!
Be well!
