Any inside backers we could trade for?

Well hell if we have a safety that we actually moved to linebacker , to fill this role,,, why dont he get used. If he is a "linebacker with coverage skills" wouldnt that be better than a safety with some good tackling skills? I dont understand.

But finally, two seasons later, Allen cracked the 53-man roster — this time, at inside linebacker. The transition from safety to linebacker is something that was considered as a possibility since he joined the team, as part of what attracted Pittsburgh to Allen was his physicality, intimidation factor and hunger for hitting.

After three camps in which to develop, the Steelers obviously like the direction of their hybrid player and want to see what he can bring to the table on the inside. While the Steelers need depth at inside linebacker, they’re even thinner at strong safety. So, it’s an interesting decision.

And what’s even more interesting is, not only did Allen switch positions, but he surpassed Ulysees Gilbert III. Gilbert did miss the last several games of the 2019 season with a back injury, but there were high expectations for a rebound. Moving Allen to the backup inside linebacker spot is a clear statement that the Steelers need to see more from UGIII, and the five weeks of training camp just didn’t do it.

More Yikes!

I am not at all comfortable with the Steelers "back-up" plan for Bush...

This team is deserving of supplementing with top notch talent at this position for the remainder of the season.

so we enter with Spillane Vince likely Allen and Gilbert to dress perhaps to to take Robery spot onm K/O coverage if henry pumbles us than we cant go up vs lamar with no fa addition like lee or trading for a williamson or Fort.

just an fyi. From his wiki page: Spillane is the grandson of 1953 Heisman Trophy winner, College Football Hall of Famer and NFL halfback Johnny Lattner.

Pedigree and so forth.

Just rewatched the game. Spillaine was everywhere. Very active in pass defense, timed his blitzes well, got blocked a few times, but made more big hits and tackles than him being walled off.

I recall three tackles involving Spillane, and all three were him crushing the ball carrier and dropping him dead right at the point of contact. It was like a car wreck, where the ball carrier was the car and Spillane the wall. In zone coverage, he followed the QB's eyes, but did backfield-peak a bit too much for my liking rather than finding a receiver to cover.

Keep in mind we are in better shape with Depth losing Bush than we were when we lost Shazier.

Matakevich was the backup and we lost him the same game as Shazier. They tried to bring Spence back, but he was a trainwreck. They just didn't have an answer after their top 2 dropped.

I legit like the depth on this team, plus we have a secondary.

Thanks for sharing man..

But 1953 pedigree is not what it used to be....obviously.

if things can skip a generation he is the apparent heir of the greatness. His arrow is pointing up if you will. Popcorn...

if he can be good, hold the line, if you will, the D will be fine. Just hopingthere's not a huge dropoff.

Gentlemen,.... We may have to take this to the kitchen and plug it in to see what hot plate is working. Saran Wrap please.

Salute the nation

Seems to be doing very well in Baltimore...

Fort is doing so well in Baltimore that he plays well under half of the Ravens' defensive snaps.

Henry is going to truck stick Spillane. I hope Spillane can pop him a few times to back him off.

I don't know about that -- Spillane trucked a few Browns pretty good last week. Vince Williams can deliver a blow, too.

Should be fun to watch.

That would be my recommendation. I would move Edmunds down into the box and put Davis deep. But what the hell do I Know
