Let them rip unless you think Spillane can handle the load

Not sure if they have any worth a **** but I’m sure the eagles will be sellers

I noted in the other thread that Spillane ended the day second on the team with 6 tackles; 5 of which were solo and 1 tackle for loss. There's no Devin Bush out there to trade for or on the street. But, Spillane appeared to call the defense well, has some pop to his game and didn't appear to screw up.

I've seen him a lot in ST in previous games, always the first or second at the kickoff coverage funneling the returner inside for the rest of the D to stop him

As long as he keeps the play in front of him I think we're ok; but Ulysses better get his game up - we're gonna need that speed.

Yup, he did pretty good in ST and did well in defense on needy time. He read the offense very well did good tackles. It is some relief.

I think Spillane will fill in nicely. He has some speed and he can't cover much worse than the other LBs we have.

Wonder if the Jets have anyone we could pilfer...

I think we're fine with what we have. I don't want to try and bring in a guy and get him up to speed when we have guys ready to step up and go.

Robert Spillane, hell I’d take Mickey Spillane, as long as they don’t entertain bringing Barron back. That’s a hard no as far as I’m concerned.

Spillane played well. But with a week of game planning a coach will find a weakness.

I'm not so sure about that. Barron knows the defense and was only let go because of the money. Too bad he's with Denver...

Spillane did OK because the browns are a run first team. Spillane or Grant can do fine as just a run stopper. What is missing with Bush is the coverage and the pursuit. Spillane can't do that. Grant probably can't do that.

The moved Marcus Allen to LB. He may be the guy on passing downs. He's the best candidate to be a hybrid coverage LB.

I think Tape was hiding in the coaches office........when did you get a key? Good job!

well to be fair, when Bush went out, it was pretty much all passing for the Brown's at that point already.

we're fine with who we have in the building. enough of this nonsense about pilfering jagoffs off of garbage teams, stop clutching your pearls, we'll be ok.

"Stop clutching your pearls"................... Is that a croquet term?

Salute the nation

I think Shazier is available...also Farrior. Bring them in and give them a look at. Or maybe just ride with who we have.

I think Spillane, Allen and Gilbert (who I thought would be the back up) can handle the spot. I worry about depth because if Williams goes down we would be playing lots of youth inside. A guy for depth I’d look at signing off the cardinals practice squad is Evan Weaver. Not the biggest or fastest guy but very cerebral and non-stop motor.

I've seen Spillane play a bit with our starting defense in the nickel. I saw no coverage issues. While he isn't as fast as Bush, he could be more aware, is taller, and from the looks of it, as long arms.

Manti te'o and Burfict...Really?!?

https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.c...d-target-after-devin-bushs-injury-news-rumors

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly suffered a horrible injury to second year linebacker Devin Bush. During the team’s 38-7 win over the Cleveland Browns Bush left the game with what is being labeled a torn ACL. The injury is season-ending and will require the Steelers to dig into their depth at the position.

Unless they want to look for some players outside the organization to help fill out the position.

It should be noted how none of these players are going to be locks at the position and be the cure-all for the team as they try to fill the huge shoes vacated by Bush. Nonetheless, here is a list of available free agents who could help soften the blow of losing Bush:

Wesley Woodyard
Deone Bucannon
Alec Ogletree
Manti Te’o
Nigel Bradham (Denver Practice Squad)
Darron Lee
Marquel Lee
Preston Brown
Vontaze Burfict
