Antonio Brown to holdout?

I HOPE we are in the same boat with Wheaton and Bryant in the future, that would mean they became some of the best players at their positions. As of right now tho, that's just a dream. Brown is in the argument for BEST WR IN THE NFL TODAY! Wheaton isn't even the best #2 WR on our team, and Bryant has had one (not even full) year of success. Lets see those two put together a three year run like Brown has before we start talking about a similar situation happening with them in the future. BTW, those two are still on their ROOKIE deals which are scaled according to their draft slot. Apples to oranges in comparing them to Brown's situation.

AB is not in a losing situation. Anyone that thinks that we can just plug Bryant or Wheaton into his spot and not skip a beat on offense is just dreaming. Brown holds the cards here, he's a HUGE part of this offense and making it go. He got a great deal THREE years ago, but that's according to you and some other fans. It's not according to market value, which he is underpaid. Like I said before, look at the total guaranteed money, not the overall size of the contract. His contract numbers pale in comparison to his counterparts, which he has outplayed consistently. You might consider it No 1 WR money, but being paid the 14th highest in total, with only 20% guaranteed with players like Cobb, Nelson, Wallace, Cruz, Jennings, etc making more is an insult. Torrey Smith signed a deal barely 1m less than Browns deal, tell me they compare in any way shape or form. The market is set, and Brown is underpaid.

Great post.. others can't ask for anything if they aren't producing as the best at their position like Brown is. Only Bell is producing like that. He is in line for a new deal anyway when his rookie deal is over. Brown has had a run only Jerry Rice can compare too. Both sides took a risk with Browns deal. The Steelers saw something and Brown saw more money. The Steelers didn't see this type of production though. No One did. Pay him. Maybe not this year but next year. Brown and his agent are just setting the table for future talks.

It's actually kind of funny the way people are panicking or getting upset. What are they allowed to do during voluntary workouts? Lift, run, catch passes from the jugs. Stuff like that right? What do you really think AB is doing right now? Sitting on his couch at home in Florida and stuffing his face with crab legs and Ding Dongs?

Troy missed voluntary workouts for years and it didn't affect his play during the season because he was training while in California.

Brown has the Rooneys by the balls, and he knows it, everyone knows it.
Pay him. They have no choice.
Could you imagine the shitstorm in the locker room if they didn't pay him??
If Bell has another season anywhere close to last season, he'll be next.
This isn't your grandfathers nfl.

LOL...you must be new to Pittsburgh. The Rooney's don't play, like Hines and Faneca both learned years ago...don't try to embarrass the Irish brawlers from the North-side. Hines would still be on the street if he didn't show up at camp and "Big Red" saw the writing on the wall before it fell on him. I think this Dunlap guy knows what he is talkin' about and AB would be wise to listen.

Get used to the fact that Rooney's not giving AB a new contract. He knows if he does players will form a double line at his office demanding their own new contracts. Not happening.

I don't think this is the reason AB is missing them for though. If it was i don't think anyone would care.

No, but I don't think AB is at home sitting on the couch eating Funions either. It'll either get worked out this offs-season, or it won't. Either way AB will suit up for the Steelers this year and he will be in shape to do so.

Has anyone said he would be out of shape? I really don't think that is the issue at hand.

Brown just tweeted "ill be there 4sho" assume he means opening day.

For his benefit, since we know the Rooney's won't cave, it better be (at a minimum) for camp and for the get together Ben is supposed to have again with the WR's. If Ben gets more on the same page with Wheaton and Bryant, those are more targets and catches not going AB's way.

Did it ever occur to anyone that perhaps AB doesn't want to participate in the voluntary workouts? I think people are freaking out about something that may have little impact on the team.

I do not think Browns' current contract was that big of a risk on the Steelers' part. It was obvious after Brown's 2011 season that he was going to be really good.

The issue resides in the fact he's receiving "really good WR" money when he has clearly outplayed it, becoming perhaps the best in the game.

He and Dez Bryant are basically 1a and 1b right now. How the Cowboys ultimately resolve their issues with Bryant will probably impact the situation between the Steelers and Brown.

For me that's not the issue, it was this in the report:

So Brown won't attend offseason workouts and is also considering a holdout from both mandatory minicamps and training camp

That's the problem, nobody cares about the offseason stuff.

Pretty sure Hines got his new deal, and Faneca was putting up a stink about everything, not just his contract. Didn't want to play with a rookie QB, didn't like that Tomlin got the job, didn't listen to anything the OL coach Tomlin brought in said and did his own thing. Faneca, for as good as he was for us, was a giant cancer to the team his final few years. He signed that big deal in NY and promptly sucked on a ****** team.

It's quite the norm...stick around for a while...

With AB's work ethic I am not worried about him missing voluntary work outs. Just like I wasn't worried when Polamalu decided to do the same.

He's a gamer and has passion like I've never seen on the offensive side of the ball. He will be on the field when we play games.

He just had a new baby. Now don't we all look foolish?

SMH...

And Congratulations Daddy AB!!

I do agree though congrats to AB on the birth.

You're dead on with Faneca, as he was causing dissention in 2007 about everything from his deal to the coach.

Hines however, was indeed a different story. According to the Dan Rooney book, it was getting ugly between the FO and Hines. Dan stepped in and asked Jerome to bring Hines to a neutral place -- no agents, no other FO reps. And FWIW by this time Dan really isn't doing much running the team, Art II took over that job of day to day. Dan is now more like the Chief was, able to be more friendly with the players and they love him.

Dan and Hines talked it out and Dan told him that he'll get a deal done, that "it may not be everything you want but it will be fair". Hines reply was acknowledging the organization as treated him well and agreed on that principle. Dan was then able to call up Art, Colbert, etc and tell them that its worked out. Hines was signed the next day. (referenced all from Dan's book)

Not everyone is Hines Ward though.....and Ward deserved more than he was getting. Hines won Super Bowl MVP and retired as a Steeler. But Hines and Jerome indeed are more of the exceptions not the rule.

The impasse that happened with James Harrison and Rod Woodson were both foolish by the FO, as was with Franco (who should have been around to break the rushing record as a Steeler - a regret again stated by Dan in his book).

Ever notice that the players that retire as a Steeler who are great don't have #'s reissued but those who were great but went somewhere else have the #'s reissued? Would 26, 95, 66, 55 go to anyone else if they played whole career and retired as a Steeler?
