AB's new ride

For many of these guys the salaries are the same as winning the lottery. That would have me set for life and my children, which are all adults now. I would not need the second contract.

And people wonder why athletes with huge contracts go broke, wasting a few 100 thousand on a depreciating asset,.

A Rolls Royce is not a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge...it's not even a Mercedes, or BMW...It's not going to depreciate like that.

Yeah, because Brown is walking around with iced out necklaces, watches, etc. Brown has been quite smart with his money, this is his first major purchase of a "toy" like so many are trying to point out. It's a $500k car, and he's pocketed well over $10,000,000 thus far just from his NFL contract, that doesn't touch his other endorsements. This isn't a rookie we are talking about, this isn't Vince Young, JeMarcus Russel, this is Antonio Brown, going into his 6th NFL season.

REPLAY'Top 100 Players of 2015': No. 8 Antonio Brown
Antonio Brown might have been bluffing in April when he threatened to hold out for a new deal or he probably had a change of heart when he realized he can afford a Rolls-Royce.

The Steelers wide receiver arrived to the first day of training camp on Saturday in a customized black and gold Rolls-Royce and put an end to the hold out speculation.

"Hold outs never go well," said Brown, who signed a six-year, $43 million deal before the 2012 season. "Just look at history. It always ends badly. It wouldn't be the best decision. I make a lot of money. I pull up to camp in Rolls-Royces."

The 5-foot-10 Brown's current contract places him eighth overall in terms of total value at the position, but his per-year average ranks just 14th, behind the likes of Vincent Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Pierre Garcon, per OverTheCap.com. Brown is scheduled to receive $6 million for the 2015 season.

Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas signed five-year, $70 million deals with their respective teams earlier this month -- Brown is certainly in their class of elite wideouts and could be in line for a similar pay day in the near future.

"You know you get caught up thinking about the future you lose sight of the present," Brown said. "What I'm here to do today is to show how hard I've been working, showcase I can still be the best in the world and help my team win football games."

The Steelers recently took care of their front office by extending coach Mike Tomlin's and general manager Kevin Colbert's contracts.

"I think it's a good deal to have those guys here long term," Brown said. "To make sure we have a stable core of the guys who make the decisions here. Obviously, coach Tomlin is a great guy, Kevin Colbert makes some great decisions."

As for Brown, it's safe to say he's outplayed his current contract after leading the league in receptions (129) and receiving yards (1,698) last season. Those numbers topped his remarkable 2013 campaign when he hauled in 110 catches for 1,499 yards. AB has found the end zone 21 times in the last two years.

Brown, who led the league last season in both receptions and receiving yardage, pulled up to the team dorms in the backseat of his new black Rolls Royce Phantom that includes a gold stripe down the middle and his signature etched into the side. Browns’s younger brother was reportedly behind the wheel driving. Brown’s slick new ride is reportedly worth between $400,000 and $500,000 and he apparently didn’t have to pay for it, either, according Jacob Klinger of pennlive.com.

At least he's showing pride in his team. Some players get free cars from a dealership in exchange for doing some ads. In this case, if AB did get the car for free I'd look for it to turn up in the paper or on eBay in a while from the dealer saying "Steeler Fans!!! Own Antonio Brown's Car!!!"
My uncle owns a '66 Chevelle SS convertible that was formerly owned by Dan Marino, and he can prove it, so it's probably worth a little more than your garden variety '66 Chevelle.
A cousin owns a '67 El Camino that was formerly owned by John Banazak and probably worth less of a premium. I've got dibs on it.

Yes it will depreciate a ton. He will not be able to get even $300,00 for it in 3 years.

Well if he gets 300,000 for it then he made a 300,000 dollar profit since he paid nothing for it.

.

News flash a rolls royce will depreciate as will any other car. put 150,000 miles on one and make it 12 to 15 years old and it will not be worth much either it will be a worn out car. Difference is with the chevy you will have used up maybe 50 K not 500 k.

I can see the IRS showing up right away quick with a tax charge for the use of the car.

I believe McCutchen makes around 10 mil per year and pocketed 400k in 2 weeks. I think AB makes 6-7 mil so at worst case you are looking at a month salary for the car. Thats also not counting endorsement deals. Remember how Gronk claims to never have spent any of his NFL money and is simply living off endorsements. A decent SUV for me is almost a years worth of salary and I sure dont get any endorsement income.

On a side note I like the car, but would do away with the signature on the side. I think it makes the car look tacky

I didn't mean that the dealer gave him the car. If he got it for free then the dealer likely still has the title and they are treating it like a demo. The dealer will sell it later, not AB.

Some serious flaws in your math and logic.

First of all McCutchen only makes his 400K for half the year meaning he nets about 5 million of the ten million salary.

Secondly you use yourself as spending a years salary on a vehicle and that is great because in all probability you will continue to increase your salary for the next 30 years while Brown will not. In fact Brown will have a huge decrease in salary and after football will not even make 2 % of his current salary, yes 2 % which would be $140,000 a year. Please tell me in the real world what type of job Brown will be qualified to do that makes him $140,000 a year outside of possibly broadcasting.

These guys spend like they are Donald Trump when they have a small window of huge earnings and after their extravagant purchases, taxes , money for their extended families, etc they are left without much and they don't have cash cows in investments. Trump meanwhile gets richer and richer so he can spend like a fool.

That makes sense now. He didn't buy the car, he is just using it for awhile. Explains the cheap wrap and " signature " graphics while keeping the base completely stock. Carry on, nothing to see here.

It may just be a leased vehicle that was decked out for the advertising by the guys who did the job.

Nothing to see here until it becomes a pattern

I do not understand your first point. It's true that mccutchen will take home about 5 mill, but he still takes home 400k every 2 weeks. His paystub was leaked online and he grosses over 800k and takes home over 400k every 2 weeks. Like i said im sure they both have some endorsement deals as well. My main point is that these guys can pay the car of easy. Now if they start buying 20 cars, 10 houses and what not that's another story.

Sorry, but that's retarded. I could have all the money in the world and I wouldn't think to do that.

It will depreciate more. Very few people in the market for a used Rolls Royce.

Most Rolls owners don't use it as a daily driver and they end up being used as garage art and driven occasionally on nice days with very few miles put on them. Back in 2000 my dad bought a new BMW 750iL, top of the line, because two of his buddies had them and they weren't supposed to depreciate. It stickered for $72K. Problem was that he drove the whee out of it, putting on 120K in less than four years, at which time it had a bunch of expensive mechanical maladies and I think he got $10K on trade when he traded it for a new Cadillac. Lost his shirt on that car.

Even if you don't drive it at all, unless a car is something special and rare, it's going to depreciate rapidly. The fact that a car isn't the latest and greatest model really hurts it's value. Great for me because I don't care and those are the cars I buy.
