A Football Life- Bill Cowher

Before that SB run Cowher was 8-9 in the playoffs. I loved Chin as much as the next guy. But it’s going to be a long while before he gets in. It took Stram and Madden over 25 years to get in. Probably be the same with Bill. His mentor should be in consideration as well. Almost twice as many wins.

Cowher has 149 regular season wins, is 12-9 in the playoffs, and has 1 super bowl win. He's top 25 in just about every category but what separates him from other coaches is he did it with below average quarterbacks. If you add in his work as a commentator, he should make the hall of fame one day. Other coaches who did less and never had a championship team are in the hall of fame.

Another thing that separates Cowher is that for most of his career he was having to fill holes left by FA. Every year he was losing players left and right because the Steelers couldn't or wouldn't pay them. Even if he had a great QB he wouldn't have been able to keep him long back then.

Look at the QBs that won while Cowher coached, Aikman, Young, Favre, Elway, Brady. You had to have a big time QB to win, 2000 Ravens and 2002 Bucs were the exceptions, Ravens had an all time great D for a season and Bucs knew all of Oakland's plays.
