5th reception...this week's "scandal" on 93.7 The Fan?

This week's major Steeler scandal !!!! on 93.7 The Fan is....
Ben throwing a pass to make sure Antonio Brown got his 5th reception of the game.

They spent two full segments (about 30 minutes) this morning freaking out about that pass. (I'm sure all the other shows will do the same)

Are they blowing this waaay out of proportion?
Pirates season is over and 93.7 The Fan don't have any balls to lick so they are in full shark attack mode against the Steelers now?
Predictable.
 
Like there haven't been other players/teams over the years that went out of their way to pad someone's obscure and meaningless record? It's not like they were up by 35, with 6 seconds left on the clock and throwing bombs down the field just to say "**** you" and run up the score (as much as I wish that actually was the scenario week in and week out).
 
I agree 100% and was going to post about this. If that had turned into a pick six or some other disaster it would be topic 1a on every sports talk show in the country. How can Tomlin say he's not a players coach when he gives some remote record priority over running out the clock?!?!?
 
Not to mention the dumb **** ran out of bounds.
 
If someone is open then throw a pass to him. All AB had to do was stay in bounds but I think he reflexively ran out of bounds.

I think that this as well as Moore's spike go to show this team doesn't have their heads in the game. What was important to Brown at that point was his record, NOT running out the clock!
 
Are they going to get on about Denver throwing a pass to Thomas to get him the single game Broncos receiving record? Or how about the pass to give Manning his personal best for passing yards in a game? Teams do it all the time, it's a not issue.

As for the players not being "in" the game, bullshit. Brown knew as soon as he ran out that he shouldn't have, he looked right to the sidelines. As for Moore's "spike", nothing wrong with showing emotion, it was a big catch on a third and long. He just has to be smart enough to not throw the ball like that. Hardly shows that his head wasn't in the game, that's just reading into things and making stuff up where there doesn't need to be.
 
I have no problem with them doing it. I am glad they did. If was a simple play that only could have been better if he did stay in bounds. But, it absolutely sealed the game. Moving down the field there and keeping the ball to end the game is what we used to be able to do. I loved it for that fact and to give AB the 5th catch. He deserves it. His work ethic is second to none on the team.

Apparently Brown's QB lobbied to continue his streak. Not Brown. Ben felt like he deserved it because of the dedication and hard work Brown puts in every day.

About ten years ago, maybe more. Then they were "best of the 80's, 90's, and today!" as I recall, then went to sports talk about four years ago.
There hasn't been any good music made since about 1985 anyway. I drive an IROC-Z and rock the mullet in protest.

If it had gone horribly wrong it would have been less of a "miracle" than the miracle in the meadowlands. There's a reason for the victory formation ya know?
 
I don't think it says the smartest play, but I think it was pretty safe. Although it almost cost me the football pool at work. If they would have scored and cost me $100 I would have freaked out.

I know exactly what I wrote. A player that hasn't been 100% healthy, finally gets a chance to contribute and does. He gets excited and throws the ball. You have to remember he didn't get a taunting penalty, or unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, it was a delay of game. Had he spun the ball (would have been fine because it wasn't at the foot of a defender), done AB's first down point, or several other celebratory things it would have been fine. But because the ball went 10 yards down field is why the penalty occurred.
 
We spoon fed a pass for a loss to Hines for his 1000th career catch. Its more about respect and less about scandal.

Bottom line, it went just fine. Some here worry about could-a should-a would-a, way to much. It's a big IFand it never showed up.

Two things:
This was different than typical stat padding because it was a one score game and all that needed to be done was run out the clock. It was risking the outcome of the game albeit a small risk it was still more of a risk than Joe Piszarcyk handing the ball off.
The outcome doesn't make the decision smart. If I drive drunk I'll PROBABLY make it home alive and without getting caught, if I do, it doesn't make it a smart decision.
Again, there's a good reason for the victory formation.

I don't believe the victory was guaranteed at that point. Either way, I am glad they took the ball and were able to keep it for the final 4 minutes of the game.
 
It was a safe play, AB in the backfield and catches it immediately after he cleared the DE. No one even lined up to his side. He also had a blocker out front. It was in essence a run play.
 
The mid-day show on 93.7 has been arguing about this going on more than two hours now!
That's all they've been talking about, not the usual subjects offense, defense or special teams.
The hosts got heated and went after each other pretty good too, almost to the point of personal insults (one said he was deeply offended, LOL).
Geez.

No it was 2:00 and no Jags timeouts. 4 minutes and it's not an issue. But even if AB just drops it incomplete it possibly gives the jags one last desperation play.
 
Jerome Bettis, Franco Harris, etc etc were given carries in garbage time so that they could go over 100 YPC

Again 2:00 in a one score game isn't garbage time. Bettis' fumble against the Colts that almost cost us a Super Bowl wasn't either. It was a miracle it didn't. My point is **** happens and an obscure record isn't worth the risk.
 
If you're asking me, It's a coaching failure. First down after the 2min warning with your opponent holding no timeouts, is a guaranteed kneel down victory. In a 1 score game, there is no question that I would have my team in victory formation. If an INT, fumbled snap, or Fumble happens from running that play, you risk the outcome.

It was a dumb move.

I don't give a **** about 5 receptions. AB had his shot with double digit targets. It shouldn't have been gifted to him. It lessens the significance of that stat.
