2015 combine measurements

I really like Maxx Williams. He has big soft hands and runs very nice routes. He isn't going to be a dominant blocker but he could be that pass catching TE to replace Miller eventually.

Here's the thing. Do you want to wait until round three to pick either a corner or a pass rusher? Williams will be gone after our pick I round one, but before our pick in round two.

I don't start putting all that together until after the combine. And it also will depend on who is there at #22. I'd rather have Williams than reach for guy that shouldn't be picked there. I would never draft guys like Troy Edwards just because the team "needs" a WR. Just like they "needed" a ROLB when they drafted Jones. I'll take the BPA almost every time. Now if you have a TE and CB with the same grade then you take the CB.

I'm taking Marcus Peters under the assumption that he is genuine with turning things around. He is saying all of the right things, but without getting to meet with him personally, I can only go off what he's selling right now and I am giving him the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise.

Blanchflower is listed as still a member of the Steelers roster under the reserve/futures contracts. I thought I had read that they liked his progress on the practice squad during the season, but a Google search of his name did not bring up an article.
Thanks.....

At first, i thought it would be crazy to draft Maxx Williams. TE is a need but nowhere as big a need as CB or pass rusher. The problem is this draft is thin at CB and while it is deep with potential 3-4 OLBs, it is easy to see there being a run on those players early in the draft.

If that happens, then i'd rather the steelers take Williams than reach on a CB or a OLB that is not worthy of a 1st rounder. For that same reason, i can see the steelers also drafting a WR like Jaelen Strong.

I am very interested in Mich State WR Tony Lippett, as a DB. He played both WR and CB for MSU. He's 6'2 and has ball skills. I think he can be a good S or zone CB. He only ran 4.6 so he will likely be available late, like 5th or later.

Lippett could be a poor man's Richard Sherman who was also a WR at Stanford. Sherman does not have elite physical skills but he has ball skills. He would get smoked if a team tried to play him like Revis, but let him patrol a small area and his ball skills make plays. Lippett may never reach SHerman's level but i think he can be effective with his ball skills.

Damn 37.5" vertical for James too. If anyone is helping himself in the combine, it's him. I agree that he's not a blocker but he has good hands, I think he has the record for TD catches for a TE at PSU

Were you watching a different Jesse James at Penn State? Dude I saw couldn't can't herpes in a ***** house with hundred dollar bills hanging out his fly. I think he had once nice catch all of last year. O'Leary and Williams did every game.

If there was any question of Dante Fowler falling to us, I think it's been dispelled. Fowler just ran a 4.61.
Beasley with a 4.53 (SMOKING) add in 35 reps and a 1.59 sec split and Beasley is gone before our pick also.
Randy Gregory (Nebraska) ran a 4.57
Trey Flowers 4.93.
Some team is going to fall in love with Danielle Hunter at this combine. Kid is 6-5, 252, ran a 4.57 and put up 25 reps (not bad for having long arms). His college production didn't match his "looks" though.
Arik Armstead 5.10
Marcus Golden 4.81
Malcolm Brown 5.05
Eli Harold (Virginia) 4.53

At this point, it'll take a miracle for Beasley to become one of the Killer Bees - pisses me off...hope we don't reach for a pass rusher - BUT, hopefully, someone sees it like me in the FO and we move up and go get him!!!

I don't think Peters is a Steeler type of player. Attitude and maturity will hurt locker room IMO. He has great skills, but sideline emotions don't fly in the Burgh.
Maxx Williams looks solid as a pick at 1/22, but he will need to bulk up a little for AFC North defenses, and I think his blocking is a little questionable. Could really develop under mentoring of Heath.
PJ is a starter I think as a rookie. Even in the old DLB defenses. Again, maturity concerns and he likes to jam at the LOS. Unless we change how we use our DBs, it would be a wasted skill set. He uses that jam to keep with shifty'er receiver.
With all that I see Maxx Williams as our best pure 1st rounder. I know we need a strong DB, but they will be there in R2.

Lynden Trail (Norfolk, St.) 4.96 and 24 reps.
Nate Orchard (Utah) 4,84
Also Beasley with a 41" vertical

Peters bothers me with his anger issues. This is where the interview process is important. Peters has to show me what he has done in his life to fix the problem. That would involve him being proactive in this. Not just talking about it. Is he in anger management? Is he getting professional help? What has he really done to fix the problem? If he has done the work then I take him. If not I take PJ Williams.

Sideline emotions have always been tolerated in the Burgh. Immature sideline outbursts are a different animal. The thing is it's up to the coaches to lay down the law, show the kid the difference and help guide and show him what it is to be a pro. Unless of course the contention is that between Carnell Lake and Butler, the coaches who would be interacting with the kid are too weak to handle him.

On a side note, where is this idea that the "Steelers won't tolerate this" or the "Steelers won't tolerate" that coming from? It's utter nonsense. The Steelers have and will tolerate all kinds of **** as long as the person doing it can help them win. True, most of the incidents have been off the field, but it's not like the Steelers are only picking choir boys and priests to play football; an emotional, physical and violent game. The history of this club is littered with as many "character issue" guys as any other team. Some have turned it around. Some have not. And some have been shown the door quickly.

I think Vic Beasley just came unobtainable to us. I don't know why they had him slipping in mocks but a 4.53 forty, 41 inch vertical, 10'10" broad jump, and put up 225 35 times. Top 10 pick now.

Bud Dupree 6-4, 270, runs a 4.57. Also had a 42 inch vertical. WTF?!!

I vote they have the players at the combine wear looser fitting shorts. Dear God, it's obscene!

Well, at least we know our new OLB coach is paying attention to these guys.

There may be 4 or 5 LBs off the board before we even get a shot at it... damn

Just remember, this is the "underwear olympics" part of the draft evaluation. Next comes the "dragging the prospects through the mud" part. After that next part, it's possible one or two of these guys lasts until 1:22. If not, then one of the top CBs should be there. (hopefully). Otherwise we get to choose between the likes of Maxx Williams, etc.

There are almost always very good players at #22. Just look at what is going to be drafted ahead of the Steelers. We know that 2 QBs, probably 3 WRs, maybe 2 RBs, a few 4-3 DEs and a myriad of other positions that will push some talent down.

Any chance the Falcons and Browns lose their 1st round picks and the Steelers pick at 20?
