1st 3rd Round Pick allar

He wasn’t? I watched a decent amount of that team. In 2023, he was the primary starter. Unless he was injured or it was special sub-package, he was playing. In the other cases, it may have been Avery Johnson. Before that, he split time with Martinez.
Yeah, I forgot how he got on Day's radar (his 2023 season). I was thinking more about the years prior. Mea Culpa.

Dulac asserts that they won't keep both Allar and Howard because neither has NFL experience. I think that is ****** stupid. You will never be able to sort through which is definitely better based upon training camp and preseason reps. And what does Rudy's experience get you if you need him for more then a game or two. And in fact when he got his chance last year he failed against the Bears and Rodgers rushed back.

If Dulac said that, they'll tell Aaron to pound sand, cut Rudolph, and trade for another rookie QB.

sask. Mason didnt do terrible.. In fact it was our defense that crapped the bed , giving up 31 points.

Maybe you just remember more vertical throws being successful later in the season. Perhaps it's just that the #2 guy, after playing a few games, started executing the offense better than Allar did.

What I see in that Villanova tape is erratic QB play, despite having all day to throw. All day. And several more mechanically shltty passes off of his back foot, like he's had his entire career.

Allar has the prototypical size and arm, I'll give you that. Smarts? He's certainly not unintelligent, but even you must admit that he lacked a high football IQ when making some of his poor decisions in the biggest moments of the most important games. Can McCarthy fix that? I guess we can all hope so.

When i say smarts, I mean chalkboard smarts. He understands the plays and the coverages. He reads defenses. He actually has to go through his reads unlike many college QBs whose 1st option is open on most plays.

When Allar makes mistakes, I don't think it's because he's fooled by a coverage. It's usually a bad throw, or trying to force something into a tight window, or being nonchalant.

He needs to be coached on mechanics. I'd like to see what his decisions look like when he has open WRs. He wasn't hesitant throwing to Warren because he trusted him. He had no trust with the WRs so he held the ball sometimes.

I think he's fixable. That's the bottom line.

Rudolph didn't do that great either - 5.5 YPA, 1TD, 1 Int, 1 lost fumble. The running game carried the Steelers offence.

Allar might be a bust. He has bad habits. But he said that McCarthy grilled him at the combine and the steelers had him in for another pre draft visit. Reportedly, Allar impressed with his answers on the whiteboards.

I'd give Allar no shot of developing under Tomlin, but with McCarthy, I like his chances. Aaron Rodgers took years to develop. Rodgers coach at Cal insisted he hold the ball by his ear, old school. They had to redo his release. He sat for 2 years and didn;t light it up immediately. McCarthy did a good job with Dak in Dallas as well.
Did you see McCarthy after the Steelers made the pick? He was straight up giddy. Easily the happiest he was for any of their 10 draft picks and it wasn't even close.

I did see McCarthy. He grilled Allar at the combine and at a pre draft visit. He must have like Allar's grasp of offense. He saw the films and Allar's footwork issues. It's apparent that McCarthy thinks he can fix the issues.

It's beyond a stupid assessment. These two should be competing for a starting job this year so the Steelers can see what they have at QB. If Rodgers comes back, we learn nothing about Howard or Allar and could potentially be drafting a QB high next year.

He MAYBE gives you a couple more weeks in the facade. He had two picks in the game. We know what Mason Rudolph is. If you are bringing back Rodgers, put the kids behind him. Someone in a different situation could use Rudy. Maybe you can get a very late '27 pick.

Think Dulac is high af

If Rodgers comes back (big mistake imho) it’s Rodgers as QB1 with Allar or Howard as 2-3 whoever shows more in preseason (which Aaron wouldn’t be playing much) and you simply deal Rudy for a late pick or cut him

If Rodgers doesn’t come back then you have an open battle for the 3 spots and let the chips fall where they may.

No damn reason they can’t keep both unless they are stupid enough to think they need Rodgers and Rudy rostered...which would be the most messed up scenario of chasing more mediocrity for a year.

Too bad they don't play football on a chalkboard. No doubt Allar's a student of the game, a hard worker, and a great kid. He looks excellent in shorts, too, throwing balls to receivers who aren't being defended. However, I want a quarterback who not only understands coverages, but also can execute and beat them when the pads are on, the game matters, and a clutch play is needed to win.

There's a whole shitload of fixin' to be done here.

I can't see them cutting Howard or Allar and neither would stick on the PS. You don't pick a QB just to cut him before he even gets a chance to show anything. I've said many times already, Howard and Allar should be fighting for QB1 and QB2. Let Rodgers retire and keep Rudolph as the veteran QB3. If they do keep Rodgers, Howard and Allar should be battling for QB2 and QB3 but that should not be the preferred choice. If he does come back, all 4 will be on the team through camp as they always have 4 QB's in camp.

Funny to me how a lot of the guys who succeed in the NFL are guys who either:

1. Had great WRs who were “always open and the QB didn’t have to move off of his first read, or

2. Had average to mediocre WRs and still found ways to make their reads to find an open man.

Howard had and did both at KSU and tOSU. Doesn’t guarantee him a lick in the NFL. But, let’s not act like he was at tOSU his whole college career.
That said, if he had not transferred, we probably aren’t having this discussion.

I didn't want Simpson in the first. Or anyone in the second but Im really good with what they did. They have two prospects with protypical size. One with better then average above the neck traits and another who can hose the ball. They have a coach with a history of developing talent at the position. If they can get a dude from two wretched QB classes......they are in business again.
