1st 3rd Round Pick allar

I think that was a reach fest, I’m not talking about a Halo binge, Red Bull and s*** food with your besties. They were half a round off with 1 and a round off with 3a. I think one should’ve been a trade back. I liked haulcy there at 3a. Wish both of them well, but, that’s my opinion on it. I think Rudolph earned a courtesy trade, Jacksonville seems like an ok landing spot (Rudolph, pick 230 for 203.) Sometimes, it’s about the player and doing what’s best for them. He’s similar to Lawrence in build and may be a better backup than Mullins. Warm weather can do wonders for a vet. Maybe Howard gets dealt, who knows? I wouldn’t be able to properly appraise that.

Meh

Former PSU teammate Landon Tengwall breaks down Allar. Interesting watch:

I’ve said it a hundred times. When Allar sets and throws he is as good as anyone. It’s when he starts trying to aim the ball is when he gets into trouble. And he tries aiming the ball a lot more than he should. He has every physical tool that you want in a QB with some mobility, but I think he gets in his own head too much. The guy could be steal if he gets developed. They are going to have to break him similar to breaking a wild horse because the bad habits he has are prevalent, and the situations that bring them out are many. They have to start from scratch with him and rebuild him. Hopefully this new staff can do that.

A third-round QB became obvious, it was a matter of which one. We took the one with the best physical tools. Again, this is why you hire an offensive coach. The Steelers needed to take some swings at a QB and they did here. Until they find one, they aren't going anywhere.

My sentiments also.

Finally a QB competition is available that doesn’t involve a Geriatric that is taking us nowhere.

Rumor has it that Aaa-Ron was grumpy due to the Steelers speaking a bout his return, hope he holds out.

MM is definitely a QB type Coach and should get production out of both Allar and Howard.

Healthy competition is what was needed. 3rd round was about right for Allar.

Good time for excitement, something this club has been missing for awhile.

We hear rumors of trading Rudolph but he is cheap, veteran. He stays. Rogers isn't on the team . I think they go with Rudolph, not Roger's.
If Rodgers doesn't return then they keep Rudolph. You have essentially two rookie QB's on the roster since Howard was out hurt from training camp thru half the season.

I'm good with the pick, but listening to Dulac, he didn't see them drafting a QB if Rodgers is coming back, as he didn't feel they would keep basically 2 rookies as backups to Rodgers. Neither will stick on the practice squad. I really hope Rodgers does not come back - even moreso now. Rudolph can be the veteran QB2/3. Let the 2 "rookies" battle it out for QB1 and QB2 as I've been saying the entire offseason.

Perhaps Allar's tough season at PSU makes him better NFL QB than a guy that had a great season, won the National Championship and got sidelined by his pinky.

Who was the last QB from PSU or OSU to win the SB?
The greatest Penn State QB was Kerry Collins, the best Ohio State one was Tomczak... maybe Stroud if he doesnt unravel ...

Now McCarthy has gotten maximum results from guys who cam from programs notorious for having QBs tgat flopped in the NFL before, but Allar is the first whose problems include bad instincts and field vision. Like Prescott and Rodgers werent guys that completely broke down under pressure... that and his short throw accuracy are the two big issues that are problematic...

I see this as a win / win situation.

I’m all for taking Green or Cole in the 7th if available too, let’s put some bodies in that room and tell Rodgers to kick rocks

Was shoveling snow. Yeah shoveling 15 cm of snow. Like ****** unbelievable. But put some thought into it. They have Howard who is extremely bright, coachable maybe not the most gifted arm but I saw him make some damn fine throws against the best of the best in '24 college playoffs. They got Allar who is an absolute unit. He's struggled with some mechanics and timing. They now have a HC with a history of developing QBs and a QB friendly offense. They will have a HOF QB who seems happy to mentor. One of these guys is going to be a dude. I won't use Franchise QB. That was Ben. That doesn't come around as much as the media makes it sound. But definitely a guy you can win playoff games with and contend for a championship with. I feel very good about that.

There’s lots of diehard Penn state fans on here that would know this because I don’t have a clue. What’s he like in all his interviews etc. Does he feel like the type that will put in the effort to do what he has to do to succeed? I do realize he was one of the youngest QB’s to come out in the draft. He just turned 22.

I always came away impressed with Howard’s attitude.

This is a big factor with Allar, his WRs sucked so he had to make far more tight window throws than most QBs. Even his throws to Warren were usually tight window, just throwing to a spot and letting him get it. Warren was the only guy Allar had that could make plays for him.

Mason is barely mentioned by the coaching staff. Maybe they trade him if Rodgers signs.

His footwork is messy and it leads to head scratching bad throws. But that can be fixed.

Ty Simpson has accuracy issues too. Bernard ranked high in off target throws, meaning he had to bail out Simpson by making a great play on a crappy pass. Allar didn't have that except for Warren.

Here's a play that sums up a lot for Allar. This is a damn TD pass. He threaded a needle, the WR got 2 hands on it and allowed the DB to rip it away for an INT.
