Tomlin started off 5-1 in the playoffs with Ben and then Cowher's players started retiring and he is 3-8 in the playoffs since. Everything else is white noise. Tomlin is failing at what he claims is his job, winning championships.

Ben and Cowhers players…..the argument that rages ad nauseam. It’s also blown out of proportion, as you still have to coach/manage the team. Cowher made his first playoff and then first SB with Chuck’s players so, his first few years were due to Chuck? Hell no.

And for the record, Cowher CHOSE to not to have a franchise QB, until he HAD to play a rookie who became one. Cowher‘s philosophy on offense wasn’t through the QB. It was through the run game, with play action. Chew up the clock, and have a formidable defense. The extension of his mentor “Martyball” Schottenheimer. Chin and Tomlin’s record are comparable in most everything including SB appearances/wins.
Doesn't change the FACTS. Tomlin started 5-1 in the playoffs with Ben and is 3-8 in the 14 years since.

Franchise QBs don't grow on trees and there really weren't many guys they exactly passed on over the years either. Cowher and Tomlin have been very comparable, but we saw the Steelers go to the AFC Championship game 6 times in 15 years under Cowher compared to just 4 for Tomlin. Cowher's teams also won a playoff game in 8 of 10 appearances compared to just 4 of 10 appearances for Tomlin.

And don't forget that Tomlin was riding Cowher's team for those first few years. If we're solely looking at Dopey and the team(s) that he put together, his track record isn't pretty. Real talk.

Certainly not disagreeing with you about Tomlin, but your second fact is incorrect. He didn't get his 4th and 5th playoff wins until 2010, his 4th year as the head coach. The Steelers lost the Super Bowl to the Packers, making his playoff record 5-2 at that point. Thus, it's 3-7 in the last 11 years.

So he started 5-1and then lost to the Packers. So my second fact is correct 😁

First fact yes, but second fact still no, because he is not 3-8 in his last 14 years. He's only coached for 15. No big deal. :yo:

Cliquers are hilarious.... Thank the Chief cliques aren't a thing in training camp.... (The second statement is, indeed correct... The Steelers lost to the Packers....) There CAN be some overlap between 5-1 and 3-8... 8-9 overall... according to Pro Football Reference... remember, if a team wins a playoff game, they get to play another... When the Steelers were 6th seeds, they won three playoffs and the Superbowl...

Of course it doesn’t change the facts as you present them. Hell, Chin was 8-9 in the playoffs including 4 at home losses in AFC Championships before he ran the table in 05 and won 4 straight to win the Lombardi. Does that make Cowher any less of a HOF coach in his 13 years prior to the championship? Nope.

Its the “what have you done lately” mantra. We will just have to see how Tomlin does.

Fan, it wouldn’t have mattered if a franchise QB was even available after NOD, Chin‘s Offensive philosophy didn’t require or need one. Barry Foster, Bam Morris, Bettis, Staley, Parker….all from the Cowher offense recipe. Run the ball, control the clock, play great defense. He didn’t want to rely upon a QB to win the game, only manage it. Every team he fielded followed that strategy until the one year TommyGun offense, which failed. Ben came into the picture (without choice and a limited playbook) after Maddox and Batch both got hurt. But Ben’s first year was also based upon run first game plans. Ben just extended drives with his backyard play escapism.

I think you are being silly with it and perhaps taking the usage of the word too literally. If somebody asks you who is your NFL team you root for? Wouldn't you say, "the Steelers"? I don't think you are replying they aren't my team they are the Rooney's then proceed to go off on some wacky tangent. Not one fan believes they own the Steelers, it is simply verbiage describing their commitment to following the team. Their passion for the team.

Life is short there is much better things to be irked at.
Damn right Slash

And who ride?
WE RIDE!!!

When opponents walk into OUR home field do WE play a part in the game through creating an inhospitable environment for the opposing team??? Hell yeah WE do

When WE go on the road do WE do the same damn thing taking over opponent’s fields/stadiums??? Hell yeah WE do

Do WE the Steeler Nation help fund the payroll??? Hell yeah WE do

I feel that since the whole of Steeler Nation includes Ownership-Team-Support Staff-Fans anyone of US has the right to use the term WE

Who ride???
WE ride

It’s really quite simple

The 1995 team threw the ball a lot as well.

The first year with Maddox the offense was actually fairly balanced.

The next year, they tried to throw it all the ******* time and it was a disaster.

"Ground and pound" was at the core of Cowher's philosophy, but he showed a willingness to open things up if he thought he had the personnel to handle it.

I just don't know that the narrative of Cowher being entirely rigid and inflexible when it came to offensive football is really that accurate.

It seemed like he tried to coach to the strengths of his team more than anything.

Fans DO pay the Steelers... Members of the team get PAID by the fans... as I said... The fans aren't riding, they're CARRYING the ones who ride... If everybody rides, the Steelers don't go anywhere... Ownership-Team-Support Staff-Fans need to know their role; kinda like Mason Rudolph knows the role of QB2 (he even wears that number...)

Lmao

You are OBVIOUSLY not allowed in the car/truck/plane/train/bus WE ride on.

Now crawl back under that bridge where ya reside, likely in CLE.

I’ve definitely played a part in helping OUR team create the hostile environment that helps swing close games and myself and the 99% of SN (you know, the one’s with opposable thumbs, the shoe wearing folk you’ve likely heard tale of) WE will ride and continue to ride WE will.

Lmao and enjoy your miserable life where things like pronouns really irritate you.

I don't doubt that your money has given you the opportunity to feel that you are helping the team... Both things can be true... The bottom line is that fans PAY MONEY to create that "hostile environment..." (perceived or not...) AND members of the Pittsburgh Steelers get PAID MONEY to create a REAL hostile environment... The fact of the matter is, sticks, stones and 300 lb. defensive lineman can break your bones, but mean cheers can never hurt you.... Enjoy YOUR life where you actually think words ("hostile pronouns and loud noises...) can irritate others...

How did pointing out the obvious show it irked me?? Why should I be irked when I'm right?? I understand now... You're irritated because your words have no effect on me... Try as you may, try as you might, words you consider painful and offensive bounce off me like a running back trying to block James Harrison... You hate me 'cause you want to be me... but face it, you're too weak... And your last resort, your words, have no effect on me.... I pity you...

It seemed like he tried to coach to the strengths of his team more than anything.
Punx, during the coaching period from 92 - 2003 (2003 when the TommyGun experiment was used), Cowher’s Rushing Offenses were ranked no less than 5th in attempts every year except twice (8th in 1998 and 16th in 2003). While they ranked 9th in Pass attempts in 1995 (SB XXX) they were also ranked 24th in INTs thrown. The three previous years they were ranked no lower than 6th.

During the Tomczak/Graham/Kordell years they were ranked no higher than 16th in PAs, UNTIL 2003, in which they were ranked 9th. They were also ranked 14th in PY and 16th in PTDs. Their rushing offense that year was 16th in attempts and 31st in Total Yds.

Chin’s SB XL year, they were 1st in rushing attempts and 32nd (LAST) in passing attempts. So, to open things up on offense was rare or on a short leash. 80% of his coaching years were Ball Control by rushing attempts, winning TOP and playing great defense. His strengths were what he chose to build his team around those facets. He never wanted or needed a franchise QB. His game philosophy did not place a priority for one.
