It’s becoming more and more painfully obvious that next year’s team will not be anywhere close to this year in personnel talent. I really believed that the ownership would have tried to find a way to put an equally competitive team on the field next year as this year for Ben’s farewell tour, but it’s now apparent that they see it as a tank year with possible hopes of maybe keeping Tomlin’s streak alive. If anyone sees it differently, would love to hear...

First, we knew going into FA that we would be limited players at best. Secondly, our biggest move was keeping a HOF franchise QB on the roster. Let's see what we do in the draft and in the second and third (post draft and post cutdown) stages of FA. Our D should be one of the best in the NFL and if we draft smart and beef up our running game I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be a contender. A tank year, to me, would have meant cutting Ben and having a fire sale. I don't think "keeping Tomlins streak alive" would count as tanking as it would involve finishing 8-8 at worst. Tanking only makes sense if you clear huge amounts of cap and position to be picking top 5 in the '22 draft.

This team isn't "tank-ing" by a long shot. We knew for quite some time that BUD would be gone. We had time to play his replacement and he didn't look to bad. JuJu is probably gone as well but our WR room can handle the added load. Tyson Alaulu is gone but here again we seen Buggs & Davis step in and play pretty good, add in a TC and they should be able to nutralize the departure. Bince's departure is already on the roster in Spillane and he performed very well and showed he can hit like a brick **** house so that is taken care of too. Hilton is a splash play loss who was situational player with weak coverage skills. He played above the line partly due to scheme and I'm sorry he is gone but I think he is very replaceable by another schemed player.

The sky is a long way from falling and we have kept a lot of young core players. Tank is not a thing related to the STEELERS, even the new modern era STEELERS.

EDIT: we need depth and the draft will help with that along with front office bringing in a couple FAs

No way this team tanks. Even with the loss of Dupree, Williams, Alualu, and Hilton, this is still one of the most talented defenses in the league. The offense needs work--a lot of work--but this team is more likely to go 7-9 or 8-8 than tank.

Next year is tank year...
Why even then? All that cap room and extra comp picks. They better get off their comfy ***** and get this team a capable QB. Already irritated with their lack of contract progress. Next year there is no excuses.

This team doesn't tank years ever. They may dip below 500 once Ben leaves but they will still always try to put a team on the field that is competitive and has a chance to win. Without a franchise QB, it is very difficult to win in the playoffs and especially a SB. We still have a franchise QB who played pretty well last year coming off a career-threatening injury. If they can get an O-line that can block better than last year and a legit RB in probably round 1 of the draft, this team will be very competitive this year. The bad thing for us is our division is once again going to be one of the best. So, getting to the playoffs will be tough no matter how you slice it. But, tank a season? **** no and **** never.

By tanking, I don’t mean literally try to lose games. No we don’t do that. Tanking for the Steelers is not putting any effort in putting a team on the field that has the potential to win a Super Bowl. Hope I’m wrong but it’s looking like this year could be disappointing based on the player losses.

No tanking in their minds, never. I will say though that quite simply they just might not be that good and that’s not by design but by fruition. They lost a lot so far and we will have to see if those guys can be replaced. Wonder what Ben’s thinking right about now?

I don't see next year as a tank year. Transition? Maybe. We still have a lot of talent. We ran up against the cap dropping and had to make tough business decisions. 22' will be a transition year for sure

Tomlin's non losing season streak doesn't matter to the Rooney's? We are getting old in the wrong places, and there will be some down years eventually. The front office can't miss on these next couple draft on any bullshit "potential" guys the first few rounds.

Care less about Tomlin and his winning seasons, how many of those seasons should we have won three four more and got past the first round. This coming season is perfect for Tomlin, if all goes well he will be crowned the best if all goes bad he will blame Ben who he does not want as the QB of the Steelers. We still will have no running game, the defensive backfield will give up way to many plays. Tank no but no illusions of being a great year

3 playoff wins in the last 11 games... the problem is Tomlin
And the players. They all haven't been good enough. I would lose no sleep if they got rid of Tomlin, just like I am not losing any sleep over losing the players they have lost.

You know this how? What a bunch of crap.

Too many of you comfort yourself with the idea that the talent is there and the coaching has been substandard. You are right about the coaching, but the players have also failed in key moments. So maybe the talent isn't what we think it is.

well never tank on purpose we’d do like jets win 2 games with possibility of drafting best qb in decade lol... that said, teams are just getting better... we have like 3 best young qbs in football in our division very motivated teams to not only beat us... but beat the crap out of us like browns did in playoffs. crappy coaching in this era just ain’t going to cut it... we are going to get our ***** handed to us... with fierce pass rush gone the secondary falls apart... our corners are good but slowest in division. We couldnt stop run on a good day since butler took over defense and we cut the middle linebacker... so much for our “great” defense, butler has never had a plan for stopping the run or defending tightends, He won’t next year either. I say 6 games we basically have no running back, one return lineman, 2 if you include banner big whoop, 2 receivers that are average, that drop as many balls as they catch, granted a potential star at receiver but he ain’t there yet... but that ain’t much... and slow fat noddle arm 10million dollar qb that plays like hes 45 or something collecting paychecks at the expense of the team so ownership can pretend they did something to make us win. Not a true tank year just more humiliation before tomlin, front office are fired and art jr gets retired.

I don't know. They haven't won anything with the players they have lost, either. Don't lose sight of that.
With the possible exception of Sean Peyton, no one has done less with more.
Last I looked, Tom Brady won another Super Bowl and Belicheat was 7-9 without him.

It's the unwillingness to make ******* adjustments, the last 3 playoff losses have been embarrassing loses to teams we played in the regular season. We were blown out from the start in all of them and we looked like we didn't even want to be there. It's always, we'll do what we do and that's good enough, if not he just blames the execution as always.
Just like the Bills game this season, McDermott up by 2 going into half time, say's we have alot of adjustments to make, Tomlin, we just need to execute better. Bills offense looked like a different offense in the second half, made adjustments to get Diggs the ball. Same as the Washington game, we're up 14-3 at the half, Washington made adjustments to use the RB's out of the backfield, we never adjusted to that and we lost.
Then just dumb calls in big moments.

Last season Tomlin had all his ducks in a row and set. He had his players aligned and ready. He started the season with a huge BANG but failed. He has had every excuse leading up to that season used up. I said many times the season would be a failure unless he made the AFCCG. Last season was a failure plain and simple. Other teams have injuries / players leave / lose to lower competition ect. BUT our guy seems to be more consistant at the failure.

Each season I think just maybe and I am always positive BUT similar returns ALWAYS happen................YES I am insane / crazy / nuts as I expect different results.

Nowhere was I or am I defending Tomlin. He should be fired.

I just am not all that worked up about the players they are losing. These players have failed in big spots, too.

It is just too damn simplistic to look only at the coaching. It is a myriad of things.

Maybe I am not all that worked up also because I realize it is going to be the same old thing. You all are right about that. I am just pointing out that this team is full of players who come u small in big spots. Have Heyward and Tuitt ever made a play in a big game, for example?
