Rudolph contract

Why is MR being compared to Ben at all? There is NO COMPARISON at this time. MR is a young QB looking for his opportunity, nothing more. When he becomes the full time starter and has HALF the stats Ben has NOW, then maybe we can talk about it.

With that said, when Ben is done, I think right now, rolling with MR is the plan. I believe that is a good plan to START with. Doesn’t mean that I quit looking of drafting, just a STARTING point. Last thing we need is to let MR go and bring in another group of Kent Graham type scrubs, while looking for someone AVERAGE.

If I am Mason I play out my contract and hit the market....unless the Steelers give me an offer I couldn't refuse. He knows Ben will be retiring sooner rather than later so we do have that. I don't see us picking in the top area for a franchise QB anytime soon. He looked like a QB today.

He played better than Landry Jones so there's that. Not sure if we can get a blue-chipper in the upcoming draft???

This is 100% exactly what I'm saying. I would like Rudolph to start in 2022 and see where it takes them. If he is a starter you save a draft pick. If he is not you will pick in the top third and maybe have a chance at someone. This is better than reaching for someone in the bottom third in hopes. And I'm sorry, but Ben's deep ball has been the ***** for most of the second half of the season. Its not hating, its just fact. He is injured and aging and it hasn't been there. He would be the first to tell you that was a fact. HOPEFULLY, the second half of the Colts game and the week to heal will help.

Good question

Rudolph seems to put more air under the ball which allows the WRs to make a play. There was a deep slant I believe he just kinda lobbed it up hit the WR in stride and it looked pretty. I think Ben on that play would have gunned it in there which leaves less room for error. However Mason seems to be lacking zip on shorter throws. Considering how our offense had been looking sans the second half against the Colts I think Rudolph looked pretty good. Dont think he is the long term answer, but may be serviceable for a year or 2.

Belacheck will make a play for him.

Cut Ben. Give Rudolph a 3 year deal with some Guarteenteed money but essentially a 16 game tryout next season. If he is successful his roster bonus in 2022 is that of an NFL starter. Spread the guarenteed over three years. You will save money at the QB position next year, find out what Rudolph is and if he cannot start, you will be in position to draft a qb in 2022.
