Penalties

I don't know if the PI calls in the 2nd half against the Colts were legit or not but I do know this, without the calls the Steelers don't win the game, imo.

Didn't the Steelers have two ints called back because of penalties? Definitely Nelson lost one due to penalty

Reading the NFL rule book to see what constitutes holding. Came across this. It's the only possible explanation for them not calling holding, unless they decided they just ain't gonna call holding.

Penalty: For holding by the offense: Loss of 10 yards.
Blocking Notes:

1) When a defensive player is held by an offensive player during the following situations, Offensive Holding will not be called:

(i) if, during a defensive charge, a defensive player uses a “rip” technique that puts an offensive player in a position that would normally be holding.

Is TJ executing a rip move? If he is, it's not holding.
the shoulder dip with arm swooping down then up like releasing a bowling ball is a rip move.

Yeah, it looked more like holding but they called PI. The Steeler bench knew he was getting flagged.

Oh yeah it was a hold, but if they were "helping" us they wouldn't have called that.

Good catch, that's exactly what happened on the play.

So basically if a defender uses the rip move, you just grab him and hold him

I didn't say they were helping us, all I'm saying is that the penalties that were called and in particular the PI penalties (legit or not) are what gave the Steelers continued life on a couple drives. Without them, I don't think the Steelers win the game, its just an opinion because the PIs came at crucial times. I think the 2 that I am thinking of came on 3rd down and the passes thrown weren't close to being completed.

I wonder if they were as furious about their RT getting away with holding TJ and putting him in a headlock every other snap? Probably not.

In another thread I posted:

I work with an NFL referee and asked him about holding. He said the bar has been raised on what they call as holding this year. The overall number of holding calls has gone down this year. After seeing TJ in a choke hold from Sunday I finally asked him the question. I was surprised I got a direct answer. He's usually pretty non-committal about these subjects.
