12-3

I'm not buying it. We've been throwing those 0 to 5 yard passes all year because Ben gets hit in 2.2 seconds. Today in the 2nd half, he wasn't. Did our line suddenly get better, or did the colts stop trying to rush? We had a whopping 20 rushing yards, so no improvement whatsoever there.

BTW, I'm watching the Rams-seahawks, and I think Fichtner got fired and is now running the Rams offense.

I was visiting ol girls dad next door and said the same thing. How dare the Rams try to copy our offense, not having it.

I used to love Erhardt in the '90s. I felt like I was looking over his shoulder. It seemed like he was building something as he called plays. This guy now seems like there is a hat laying on the ground beside him and he just pulls plays out.

It's weird though. I watch a lot of football, and it seems like that to me with a lot of teams. So maybe it's me.

I divide up our OCs like this:

Completely out of their depths: Fitchner, Sherman ( not going into them... they just shouldnt have been OCs here...

Fundamentally sound and technically proficient but too conservative --- Moore, Erhardt, Haley...
-Erhardt was just a great run dinosaur... he easily had the best run block schemes, but he overutilized the Te and passes to RBs... he lost most of his playcalling in mid 95 and was forced out after the season
-Moore was a great OC in his first real stin t as an OC... the rooneys forced him out over too conservative play design, which by the end of his career was not an issue
-Haley was brought in to fix The O after Arians... he was magnificent in design but his playcalling was meh... he butted heads with better playcallers at virtually every stop in his career...

High Concept System over Talent guys: Walton, Gilbride (both pushed complex offenses, and called plays to show off more than win games)

Stubborn guys who werent willing to adapt: Mularkey, Arians
-Arians didnt want to adapt his blocking scheme to fit the players he had and refused to utilize anything short... Arians understood the deep passing game better than any other OC we had... his routes were so technically great at opening up the mid to deep stuff... he just hated crossing routes and slants and wasnt ever that great with the run
-Mularkey wanted to run those 2 TE sets and refused to look at more aggressive spread sets. I liked Mike... he used motion very well, he just hated anything too modern and overused trick plays at the 40....

Good guys with short stays

I think our two best OCs were Gailey and Whiz...

Gailey didnt use the TE in the passing game much, and preferred 3 and 4 wr sets a lot... he was always balanced and his routes, motion and gamelans were usually very solid... The Rooneys brought him in after the O was utterly useless in 93... he designed all those routes in 94 and 95 and was the guy who opened up the O... he has adapted a ton through the years and still has an OC job in miami...

Whiz was probably the best all around OC we had. He was equally good at the run and pass fundamentals, understood the game and used motion and playcalls to open up defenses better than most of our OCs... Its kind of a shame he left when he did...

weve been throwing 0-5 yards for two seasons now... thats the design of fitchners offense... all the first two reads are short, we almost never look deep... just watch bens progressions....

We get behind, he starts looking deeper and the offense opens up... its been all year long, not just this game...

its simple.... typically over the past two years we take a few scripted early shots then throw a to of conservative passes... the deep routes are just decoys for half the game... then when we fall behind we get aggressive out of necessity... today we went aggressive, hit on a few deep balls and the D had to play back, opening up the run game and the mid passing game a bit...

one dimentional offence isnt just pass/run... its pass depth as well... we were throwing 0-5 yard passes the vast majority of the time and it was making us easy to defend... today we stretched the D and the O played well in the second half

Yes, except for the last meaningful possession with around 6 minutes left, when they reverted back exclusively to the short passing game and ended up punting the ball back to the Colts with the game yet to be decided. I understand trying to bleed the clock on that drive, but why abandon a successfully balanced offensive approach which had just netted three consecutive touchdowns (and another drive of 78 yards)?

We will run better between the 20s if we keep slinging it downfield. Play every game like we are behind, In terms of taking shots downfield. Also, it was good to put this second half pass attack on film so teams have to loosen up the middle of the field. I’m convinced someone at halftime said to air it out. Claypool should never come off the field. PERIOD.

I'll throw this in here....

Anyone speak JuJu eeze? At about 1:16 it sounds like he says 'Tannehill gave a speech and then Papa said...' I know that's not right. Just trying to figure out WHO said somethin' at halftime about the team needing to have more fun/play for fun.

Cause RF, and to some extent Tomlin, is extremely conservative in risk mamangement.... right now the defense is the strength, the team thinks its ok to not risk a low percentage devastating play like an INT, knows they cant run when they need to, and trusts the D so they play for the safety of a high percentage, low yardage pass and hope for the YAC to get first downs... they are playing for the punt, hoping the D will get them the ball in better field position or win them the game...

when they absolutely have to pass, they do... but often its too late by the time they get agressive

It's not that difficult to understand JuJu. "Ben, you know, gave us a speech at half-time .. Pops said, you know 'you just gotta go out there and have fun."

Quoted for truth

he does drop a lot of "you know's"

meh...he is a kid with a camera stuck in his face after a tough game. not everyone has a sliver tongue. They found a way to play good football in the second half for the first time in weeks. I just hope they can keep the foot on the gas at htis point.

That's a losing mentality...and it almost cost them again today. Throwing the ball past the first down marker on 3rd-and-2 is not a high-risk play, it's common sense.

Pittsburgh Dad should be good this week.

I just hope I can post it first! It’s all I care about. It’s just tough because I have things to do. I can’t just sit there and hit refresh all day until it comes out.
