Number 3 has to be Tomlin. What a dumb **** for accepting that penalty that would have given the Bengals 4th down. Glad we won the game despite him.I'd say the the problems are (1) pass rush, (2) secondary... (19) Ben.
The reason the Defense back in 05 and 08 was dominant was BECAUSE of the Pass Rush. Porter, and Co and the Deebo/Woodley combo created sufficient pressure to force early/poor throws.
bottom line, until we start to generate consistent pressure from the line and OLBs we will have a hard time beating teams.

Very well said and 100% spot on. There was every reason to believe they were going to not only go for it but that it could also be successful as well.In a 4th and 2 situation, the Bengals were easily going for it and had a higher percentage of conversion. By moving them back 10 yards you were forcing the backup QB to make a play. I'll take those odds any day, and smart to put pressure on the backup QB when he first comes in the game.
Normally if all things are equal, you decline the penalty (expecting a punt as a result), but situationally, accepting it was the higher percentage chance to stop the Bengals drive (as they were not looking to punt on 4th and 2).

When I saw this all I could think of was what happened to the poster that was known as Blackjesus or something similar to that?

I agreed with his call. If he declines, the Bengals have 4th and 1 at midfield and obviously go for it.
Accept the penalty and they have 3rd and 20 at the 30 yard line. Make any reasonable defensive play - even a below-average defensive play and give up 12 yards - and the Bengals have 4th and long, and not 4th and 1, and they punt.
I think he has a bruised vulva.
Yes because Tomlin is a better coach than Lovie Smith, Sean Peyton, Harbage, Mike Pettine and ******* Ryan!Love the reaction on the Bengals Board. Sounds like many here last week!!!

Call me crazy, but I think the better team won today. Pitt has better coaches and a much better QB.

Steelers D has faced 4th and 5 or less, 9 times giving up 5 first downs. They have faced 4th and 6+, 8 times giving up 1 first.
I don't know the specific instances of each attempt, but it doesn't seem to be very good odds of stopping 4th and 2.
