agreed. but again the thought that Spillane is more important to us than bush is hilarious to me. We are lucky o have Spillane. undrafted Spillane. We are also lucky to have Bush. top 10 pick Bush. which would you really want on your team if you had to choose 1?

This is honestly my thought. Bush isn’t going anywhere but Vince is a FA after 2021. I love Vince Williams but will be 32 after the contract is up. Wouldn’t be hard to take that salary and move it over to Spillane and have Bush and Spillane in the middle for the foreseeable future.
I guess what I agree with is I personally did not see a drop off from Bush to Spillane. Bush is obviously a better athlete but Spillane seems to process quicker. Having those two on the field at the same time might improve an already stout defense.

Not a big surprise Spillane has held his own he was a stud in college a bigger question is can these smaller faster linebackers hold up playing inside over the long term. Particular without a four man line that can keep the offensive lineman off of them. Spillane has played well but one would have to think bush has more big play potential than Spillane though Spillane has shown a good nose for the ball. I would have preferred Oliver in that draft if we were going to trade around. As the game changes you need linebackers that can move ours do. Now if our offense could move...
Bush is an athletic freak and the future of this team.

While Bush was in there we were giving up 66 yards per game on the ground, since he's going out we've been giving up 125 yards per game.

Alualu being out for a good stretch hurt also..
In fact, he hasn't been the force he was earlier in the year since his return..

I do agree that try hards can be effective, but lets look at a guy like Brent Alexander.... maybe the smartest Safety we ever had, and thats with Perry and Troy on the list... the guy was NEVER out of position... he always made the right reads... but half the time he’d break on the play at the absolute quickest time you could and would still be a half step slow to it... coaches adored him... he was always doing the right thing... physically though he just wasn’t quick enough
Im not saying that Spillane is subpar like alexander physically, but he isn’t above average either...
Bush is a second year player who called defenses as a rookie... he isn’t dumb... his physical traits are impeccable... the people bitching about him are the guys who'd have cut Dupree and resigned Chickallo as a starter two seasons ago...
If you want to make the case that Spillane is the long term replacement for Vince playing the Larry foote role... sure... but this defense needs two things to hold it together... a playmaking safety and a versatile, Quick ILB...
Spillane has done a bang up job so far... but I don’t see how anyone looks at where he is at and says its ahead of Bush in any way...

I’d kinda put Ryan Clark ahead of Alexander. Brent was a good ball player though. Nice Ball Hawk.

Bush has and is a GREAT player. Spillane is filling and NO way does Spillane retain the position once Bush is healed and ready to come back. Spillane may take Bince's job due to cap casualty but Spillane will NOT take Bush's job. Don't get me wrong, I'm a happy "Spirit World" camper that Spillane has done well and hope like heck he continues.

In the four games Bush started and finished, the Steelers played the Giants, Broncos, Texans, and Eagles. None of those teams have a top ten rushing offense. In fact, Houston is the worst in the league.
In three of the six games Spillane started and finished, the Steelers played the Titans, and the Ravens twice. Both of those teams are in the top five in rushing offense, and Baltimore is the best in the league.

Anyone wanna argue that Bush is better than the above players? Like I said 6th or 7th. I think he's a good player, and I think Spliiane has been as productive / produced more splash plays in the same defense in their last 8 games played.

That's nice, I was comparing their last 8 starts. Bush shot his load early and has not been as solid since. Just a bit of fun.

Man when someone gets on your bad side for what ever reason you just dont let it go...
Impossible to know just looking at stats, do you we have video of each play? How do we know Bush wasn't covering RB/TE's fine on several plays each game and the QB couldn't throw at him because of his coverage? Or Spillane was in coverage and his guy beat him but the QB went somewhere else or got sacked before he could throw it? Or vice versa? Bush was a rookie last year, and almost all of them hit a rookie wall.

Bottom line in a football game BUSH overall is better and is also the player I'd want. In today's NFL speed is the ingrediant and BUSH by far has that quality over Spillane.
Remember, stats ONLY show a part of the player and actual game "WATCHING" can show a huge part also.

There's a reason Spillane is backing up Bush. And using topseeds quote, he's also proving why your stats from their last 8 games played aren't enough. There's not enough variety of teams played. It's also been pointed out, you're taking two different years of playing for Bush.
You really have no clue how to properly use stats in an argument.
Spillane has filed in admirable, but he's no Bush. Just like we HOPE Highsmith fills in admirable for Dupree, but he's not Bud.
I guess in your world, Bush is the new Troy. Troys head was too big, therefore he was body short, and was a liability (this was your lame argument). Bush is short and his arms are short, therefore he'll never be able to cover anyone.
There a reason you picked 8 games, why? Why not go with career? Spillane has played 22 games, Bush 21. Would that not be a more accurate comparison? Oh I know why....

Bush - 21 g, 113 tack, 66 solo, 2 sacks, 2 int, 1 ff, 4 fr, 1 TD.

Just so im not the only one chuckling about some of coach’s claims... Spillane is about 2 inches talker than bush, but his arms are only a half inch longer and his hands are smaller... i guess that half inch is way more important than all of the massive discrepancies in speed, reaction time and quickness...
Plus bush is two years younger and slightly heavier than Spillane...
