By: Jared Villani @JVillain10 SteelerNation.com   Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson has been nothing short of fantastic and electrifying throughout his short time in the NFL, and there’s no reason to believe he won’t continue to impress. Johnson has already seen 25 targets from Ben Roethlisberger which is first amongst all Steelers pass catchers. […]

Thanks for the write up jared

I see DJ getting better and better. I also see DJ needs more work, creative work on the Juggs machine. You can't just catch easy passes from juggs, she / he is like a lady / man and needs different bitching sessions all the time......... (sorry if offended but **** you). He also needs Jerome Bettis to teach him ball security importance.

DON'T get me wrong, DJ has an amazing amount going for him but he is young AND WITH EACH problem play he becomes more and more congregant of his play actions which will translate to success.

Salute the nation

The kid has raw talent but he has some fumbling issues and he definitely should not be used as a punt returner if he can't catch the ball and also know where he is on the field to let the ball go, like not fair catching at the 5 yard line or inside.

I don't see Johnson as a star in the making. He's not Ward, Ju-Ju, or Brown. He's not a deep threat either like say Wallace or Bryant could be.

He can be a very good player as the #2 WR. The guy runs nice routes and gets open, but his ball control must improve.

Hmmmmm...

I think these will prove you wrong:

DJ will make a push for the #1 spot before the end of the season. Write it down...

The only thing that can hold the kid back is injuries and ball security. Tell him to buy ABs jug machine seeing how he won't be using it again.
I feel he can be a one in the transition to no Juju which I assume will be next year. But a star? Not sure. Consistency, and ball security will be key. Was Santonio a star? No, but he was a damn good one and it was enough to win a SB.

Not sure if you've seen our new KR/PR guy...Ray Ray McCloud III

Bermuda approves!

Anyone w/ football smarts can see the glaring similarities in DJ's game to pre-brain damaged AB. It's absolutely scary how similar their styles are...

I would say obviously his arrow is pointing up with a solid pedigree and above the neck football ability any further elaboration I would be painting him with a broad brush, obviously.

There is a reason why I am much better at assessing WRs than you Coach. I was one, I understand the technique both in feet and hands to be great. DJ has it.

Coming into the league, he was already the best college WR I ever saw breaking press coverage at the LOS and I stated that in his breakdown, as well as his ability to separate from defenders with his route technique.

In just over one year, DJ has already led the league in forced missed tackles (19) and yards of separation per route run. A tiny metric used by PFF, but that is why AB was so good. He was always able to use his hips and momentum to work against the defenders movements to get wide open.

You would have been better off complaining about his head size...

I like Ray Ray. I also like Cam Sutton to return punts as well. He was really good at it in college. Ray Ray should be returning unless DJ can figure out the muffed punts and bonehead fair catches

Some of the new guys that have made a play here and there would be a bonus to step up and become more consistent.

Good now he will be a star for sure.

Haha, um no. He's good, not great.. Like I said not in Ward, Brown, or Ju-ju class, Heck I bet you he wont even have the career of Mike Wallace. He doesn't change games like say Bryant could.

He's a more of Emmanuel Sanders type of player, except not as clutch or fast.

I think that says it all. Time for reality, Johnson didn't exactly play in the SEC or Big Ten. How in the world can you say that? Ever? Um no. There is a reason he was a mid 3rd round pick.

Johnson's has a career 11.9 yards per catch in the NFL. His target for catch percentage, if you know what that is nothing special, and in 19 games played he has fumbled 6 times.

In my opinion he's going to be one of those players who gets dinged up. Bank on it, in fact he already is in a young season.

A good #2 option, Too small, not a game breaker type, fumbles too often, ect... to be a true #1.

My WR calls here have been spot on. In 2019 I loved DK Metcalf. I liked him in round f'n one! I felt he would be a star. He's amazing one of the best WR's in the NFL this year. Score another one for coach.

2020 WR stats. Metcalf #1 in yardage, #2 in big plays.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/player/_/stat/receiving

I liked Claypool a lot. Give him time, he'll be a better player than Johnson, and already is in certain routes and on special teams.

I did not like the Washington pick at. Who was right there? 2nd round pick should not be the #3 man at his position on team after 3 years.

I loved Mike Wallace in round three for those who care to know.

Those was some of my calls on WR, Cope. Any re-thinking if I know what it takes to been good in the NFL at that position?

Remind me of your WR calls in the draft?

You don't think he's be as good as Ju-ju, Ward, Brown or Wallace do you? Let me know.

Johnson is more like he's E Sanders without being a clutch. S Holmes at his best is better than Johnson. So was Bryant.

The head size again? Maybe his weak hands and hand size have something to do with his fumbles.

-Coach.

You are as dim as they come with your hindsight analysis. You liked Bryant you twit. You know, that guy that is out of the league. Great pick!

I break down each receiver we draft and give full assessments before they play a down for us. DJ was special. JuJu was special, Washington was boom or bust. My analysis seems to be spot on. Not just saying I like a guy, I actually break down film, their feet, their hands, their ability to separate.

And I love how you are ******** on where DJ played in college. Still doesn't change the fact that he was the most NFL ready WR at breaking the press BEFORE HE WAS DRAFTED. It's translating just fine here. Where did AB go to college again? Thought so...

He's already ahead of JuJu in receptions and TDs for all of last year. AS A ROOKIE. Leading the NFL in forces missed tackles.

For a metrics guy, I think you could digest 'best in the league' at something, since you parrot PFF so often.

He's not Hollywood Brown small, and he set the standard at receiver last year playing with a bad groin all season. Now he's dealing with a turf toe, but he's still producing at a high level.

I don't need to convince you though. Going into week 3 he was #2 in the league with targets. (Hopkins was #1). Ben loves him, he gets open at the breaks of his routes with ease, so keep enjoying those first downs he earns as soon as his head spins around.

PS, I'm going to ride you on this one. Buckle up!

I like when he says time for reality when he is about as clueless as they come. As I said before cooch is the worst draftnik in the history of....

What's eating you? You were a level headed poster before. Yeah, I liked Bryant, he was one heck of a 4th round pick. I don't do character reports unless I can read them. I gave you my track record on WR's on and off this team. Its very good if you are being honest. I break down flip too, see what I said about Claypool.

I agree Johnson runs nice routes and can gain separation but calling him the best you ever saw at doing it is crazy. CRAZY.

Johnson catch % on targets isn't great. He's small, injury prone, lacks deep speed AND fumbles way too often. Ride that bus, I'm going to be correct again. Johnson is no star receiver. That would be Metcalf.

Washington Boon or bust you say, I saw bust. What made you think Boom? Do tell.

Mentioning Johnson's with Brown is crazy. Brown has hall of fame numbers.

As for Ben, he's going to love Claypool more. He's a legit deep receiver with size, speed, better leaping ability, and can block a ton, which is something the lightweight Johnson sucks at, that if if you being honest in his assessment as a blocker. Claypool is a real factor in kick coverage. Johnson is not. And he lost his job as retain man. We'll see how Johnson does. When he's healthy which will be an excuse of yours...I predict.

Also do you think Johnson is going to be better than Brown, Ward, ju-ju, Claypool Od Byrant when he was focused? Humor me. Which Current of Former Steelers would you compare him to. I see a slower E. Sanders

You're such a dishonest dick. Compare me to the media guys who do this for a living if you dare. Claypool a 3rd round pick you say? Nice one! I offer a full draft review on who I would have taken each year. Where's yours?

When Ben and DJ get on the same page I expect numbers similar to AB. Those things take time and with Ben gone and everything that has transpired with COVID I think it’s a comfortability level on both sides. It’s what it so great between Ben and AB is they had chemistry from practicing and playing so much together.

Twatwaffle guessing one round off AGAIN isn't horrible..

Dishonest no I am blatantly honest. Compare you to a media guy? lulz listen you throw options against the wall and hope one sticks.

Know what was a nice one? Watching you being banned for a month for your retarded view on Ed Oliver.

Even better let us look at a guy you pimped really really hard Greedy Williams. Thought I forgot about him huh? How is that speed working out for him numbnuts?

his next INT will be his first one.

BTW there was threads created this year that you hid your head, didn't participate. We both know why you are only after the picks poster. Who you "would" have picked. You have to wait for the real draftniks opinions to be posted, tool.

I'll take that bet!!!
