Sad, but that draft is going to haunt us and many other teams for the next 10+ years. It is an indisputable fact that we could have drafted Lamar Jackson and picked Terrell Edmunds in the second round.

I doubt he was even on the Steelers board. He is not the type of qb they use in their system

like all athletic qbs, he is one knee injury away from becoming the next kapernick

I would love for that to be the case, but this guy seems different. Like the kid on the sandlot that was just an athletic freak who made it look easy. People are comparing him to Vick and Cam for obvious reasons but I’m not remembering them operating in a system that was perfectly engineered around them

The system is hard to play against the first time you see it. Just like the chargers last year. But when they saw it again they played it much better. Teams will eventually figure it out.

That’s my point though. The Steelers are always talking about picking the “best player available” and so in their highly-paid, educated minds, Terrell Edmunds was a better football player than Heisman Trophy-winner Lamer Jackson. He will probably win MVP this year, so all I’m saying is that the Steelers really blew it in 2018 and it’s gonna make our lives as Steeler fans pretty awful for the foreseeable future... We needed a strong backup and potential QB of the future and we took one in the 3rd round when we could have taken Jackson in the first and probably Edmunds in the third...

Nobody takes BAP every time. You have to take the BAP at specific positions. if not you'd have times where you'd draft one position 2 or 3 straight rounds. Depending on how things fell. I'm a strict BAP guy most of the time. But I doubt the Steelers had a 1st round grade on him. I know I didn't. I still wouldn't take him. I think this year is a fluke. I think the offense is a fluke. Teams like the pats*** will dissect it and the blue print will be out there. It's a gimmick offense. We will see in time.

It has nothing to do with injuries... though rushing ten times a game as a qb begs for one... its that guys who use their feet to move and freeze safeties have ridiculous success their first three years then drop off to irrelevance while pocket passers and mobile qbs that are pass first get better as they understand coverages better...

Every single Lamar Jackson type has had early claims of MVP then eventually are done earlier than most... RG3’s rookie season was amazing, his completion percentage was awesome... he was having equal success on the ground and through the air...but like with LJ they built an offense around his running and simple reads... that doesn’t work long term... it just doesn’t...
he could well win an mvp... newton did... and again Cam is going to be let go at 30 this offseason...

Giys like Russell Wilson or Steve young... they weren’t looking to run first... they weren’t freezing guys with their feet to get passes open over the middle... they just had the ability to take off when things really broke down...

Maybe LJ breaks the mold... but literally and I mean LITERALLY we have seen a half dozen of these “moldbreakers who are going to dominate the league for twenty years, next generation, prototype QBs have the EXACT same hype and seemingly unparalleled success who just ultimately miss out on their first three to five years of traditional development and when they have to be more of a pocket first passer they just aren’t as effective...

Is it a good move right this second... absolutely... but lets revisit this in five years and history says he is gonna be another footnote more than a hof guy...

I agree with everything everyone here has said except for the face that we drafted TERRELL ******* EDMUNDS Instead of taking a chance on an absolute freak athlete that would have still allowed us to pick Edmunds in rounds 2-4. I just hate when the Ravens front office makes better decisions than we do...

The Steelers overdrafted Edmunds, but he wasn't that high on their draft board or they would have taken him. I also don't really believe they had a first-round grade on Rudolph or they would have taken him there. You just don't pass up a QB who you think will be a star when you have the chance.

Now, if the Steelers did take him they would be dinking and dunking with him right now. Don't even pretend for a second he'd look anything like he does in Baltimore. They built that entire offense around his skill set.

Exactly... he’d be misused here badly...

I would have taken a lot of other players over the 3rd rd projection Terrel Edmunds.

Like ive been saying... with qbs like LJ it’s all Ooooooohhhh and Awwww early... in a few years its damn, wtf happened...
right now nobody has an answer, but they always come up with an answer and tgen it gets copycatted and the player has to adapt... its just harder when you have to make that next step in a totally different direction... right now teams are still playing him as a run threat... eventually they will just play coverage and if he beats them with his legs, he does... but that will take a toll and he will come back down to earth

I mean we sometimes get guys they ***** about too.. we got JuJu...

Harbaugh and his staff adapted to Jackson's abilities. Tomlin and his staff wouldn't have done that.

Jackosn is successful because the ravens decided to build their whole offense around running the option. If you though the steelers, with Big Ben still with several years left were going to do that, you are out of your ******* mind.

It's also bullshit to say Edmunds would have been available in round. If you want to say that was a bad pick, fine, but it is in no way a fact he would have been available in round 2.

The difference between Jackson and QBs like Griffin and Kaepernick is that Jackson has grown/evolved as a passer/QB, while the other guys were "great" right away but gradually got exposed.

People already forget how much Jackson struggled passing the ball last year.

The league has had since the middle of last season to figure out the Ravens offense, but cannot do it because it's turning out that the QB is better than everyone thought.

I know Edmunds is not Fitzpatrick but imo this is not the roll he was meant to play. I think a rover safety/ILB would be his best spot. I think making it look like dime or nickel then having Edmunds come down next to Bush and Hilton go to safety. Show the offense one thing then actually do another.

Hell, I would have drafted Nick Chubb over Edmunds. CLE got him in the second round. First pick sure, but we still passed on him. Him and Connor would have looked good in the backfield, esp with Connor being injury prone.

I'm haunted by Jarvis, Zo Jackson, Artie Burnt, Ziggy Hood; not by someone we weren't going to draft.
