Conner Is Not a Starting Back

Conner has very good ability. He’s just not super durable and is too fumble prone.

Last night I saw him holding on extra tight to the football.

Seemed more than OK and tough with a stacked box aimed at stopping the run with a 3rd string QB in the game. That was the Conner they allowed to play in many (but not all) games last year. Let them man do his thing and he can run and catch and get you 125 and even 150+ yards from scrimmage.

Fair enough, and speaking for myself, it wasn’t until he lost his mind and started throwing his team under the bus that I didn’t care that he come back. I hated the first down signals and stupid end zone dances, but was glad he was able to make them.

It just seems to me that it was after he quit on the team and started talking **** that everyone turned on him.

He told his team mates last season that he'd be there week one, then backed out on them, that's when alot started to turn on him, the fan started turning on him when he turned down 14.5 million per season. Hell Ben was the one guy after week one, that still said he wanted him back and he made the offense better, and Bell threw him under the bus real quick.

Antonio Brown was a perennial all pro and this fanbase wanted him off the team... basically unless they clone the 70’s Steelers this fanbase wont be happy... and if they did clone thise guys we would go 0-16 in the modern nfl and people would still be unhappy...we just love to *****... thats our gameplan

He wanted off the team, the fans loved that guy until he started acting like a ******* idiot. The fans aren't the ones that told him to leave practice and walk out, the teams didn't suspend him for the Bengals game, the fans didn't tell him to throw the entire organization under the bus and try to get released.

My only concern with Connor was fumbling as it seemed that he did so every time I watched him play at Pitt. I consider a fumble to be the equivalent of -50 yards. Add that to a backs stats and you get an idea of his true value.

He has five fumbles in his 2 1/2 year career in the nfl ... not lost, just fumbles... his fumbles per touch is about average

In 2017 he didn’t fumble in his limited touches
Last year he fumbled 4 times... he was in a 11 way tie for 36th in the league in fumbles...
for comparison in 2016, used about the same way, bell fumbled 4 times... the year before he had 3

We aren’t the pats.. we want iur rb to fight for yards and not go down at first contact

That will lead to fumbles....

If someone offered us Ezekiel Elliott for Conner this whole board would be enthralled with the idea... he fumbled six times last year...

He was speaking of AB, not Bell....
Bell was just an idiot who lost money by sitting out....RBs are a dime a dozen.. you don’t pay qb money to RBs... you just don’t... if conner makes five pro bowls then asks for bell money, draft another third rounder and move on...

Maybe i just hang in different circles and listen to other radio shows than you but for at least three years (and probably longer) people have been bitching that Brown needed to go... they were gleeful when things came to a head last year... they also bitched about Bryant, Wallace, Sanders, and Holmes... they will ***** about Juju in two more years or so... right now they are bitching about all the scrub wrs ... its pretty much the first time Ive agreed with them since Limas sweed...

I just think people are overly enamored with the legend of hines ward here... he was divaish too at times, but we ignored that because he was more blue collar than fancy...

WRs, especially talented ones, are typically narcissistic.... if you cannot deal with that then you are going to have a bunch of Switzers on the team...

All 6 of the Steelers Lombardi trophies had stout championship level defenses. That last one in 2008 you could see the start of exploiting the middle of that defense. The cheats started exploiting it much earlier.

What the 70's had was sound fundamentals in blocking&tackling. The 90,s when Cowher took over they kept it going well into middle 2000,s before teams went hard with short quick passes to carve up the zone. That defense is not made to succeed without constant relentless pressure to get teams off the field fast. The offense needed to sustain long grinding drives to give them rest and keep them fresh. The power running also wore opposing defenses down so by the 4th qtr you could have your way on offense and defense.

It took a lot of talent at key positions. That 2 down linemen **** won't cut it. They need a stud NT or they need to switch to a 4-3. The scheme has run it's course. They have not developed guys like they should or have thrown them in the fire way before they know what the hell they're doing.

AB while a great wr,is also a selfish, self centered player. They didn't win a single thing with his awesomeness. Just became a big pain in the *** who is unemployed right now.Same for Bell. Who is getting a taste of reality this year.

The 70,s Steelers would not go 0-16 in this so called modern era. They would have the same access to the science we have now in strength& conditioning. Which is the only reason athletes are bigger now than then. The linemen are fatter than ever. Everyone has a big ole gut which they need to keep from being thrown around from other fat guys on defense.

Start counting missed tackles each game. So much bad form,so many flailing arms. It's a lame effort in most cases. If they're worried about a shoulder boo boo wrapping up,go back to bigger pads. That **** works wonders absorbing energy. It's not about looking pretty,it's about taking your man down with as little gain as possible. Wrap up and use your leg drive. Something they surely had known by a very early age of playing.

You can tell the teams devoted to their craft year round and the small fundamental details. They leave no stone unturned. They circumvent the rules as if they're just suggestions. (Not a fan of that)

They win a lot of championships and they make us look ******* stupid.

You're only as strong as your weakest link in the chain. Nothing will change that. No amount of cheering will. Just new links. You will always be fatally flawed when tested to the highest degree until you fix them.

Consider this my 10 year conclusive rant. It just gets old seeing the exact same problem year in and out.

I liked what I saw from Snell. I hope they give him some more carries going forward. Connor looked good too, ran really tough.

Let’s see
Le’Veon “$$$” Bell 50 yds on 14 att. 1 TD 1 rec. for 3 yds.
James Conner vs Bolts 41 yds on 16 att. 1 TD 7 rev for 78 yds

Yeah, I’d say the Jets are getting their moneys worth?
Conner likely won’t be a 100 yard rusher splitting time with other backs to perhaps save his health. But looks like Conner is getting the ball in space and making YAC.
I dunno, it’s only one game right?

Snell is a north south back. He hit some holes good last night. This team knew it had to run the ball and still jammed it down the Chargers throat.

Because I really do enjoy looking at the numbers in detail...

(this is 2019 only, of course.)

Le'Veon Bell - 5 games | 256 yards rushing (3.01 ypc) | 169 yards receiving (6.03 ypc) | 2 TDs | 1 fumble

James Conner - 6 games | 235 yards rushing (3.17 ypc) | 231 yards receiving (8.88 ypc) | 5 TDs | 1 fumble

While Conner's yards per carry is not very impressive so far this season, he's STILL better than Bell. There's just no other way to look at it.

And if we were to compare yards per salary dollar... I'd say the Steelers are juuuuuust fine.

Well, Our running game WAS ON TOP OF IT a few weeks ago, with all the misdirection. Last night was so ******* predictable.....

Snell ran great & Conner is really good as a receiving back these days....

Between the 2 of them we had decent production...

Neither one has that quick first step. Hit the ******* hole *******

Well, I wonder how much of that is the blocking scheme too? Are they supposed to wait for a 2nd level block to set up? If so, then that would explain why they don't just rip through a gap, head down, legs churning...

There's a difference between a Diva, and a totally selfish asshat like AB. AB got pissed because we won, but he didnt' have enough catches. AB threw a fit in the middle of a game because Ben didn't hit him when he broke open after Ben had to get rid of the ball before getting killed. AB got pissed when we scored the winning/go ahead TD vs NE because some one else scored it, he didn't even celebrate, just walked to the sideline.

I agree most top WR's are self centered, but they don't get mad when their team actually wins.

When is the last time a WR that acted like a selfish ***** won a Super Bowl

Perhaps we need to deflate our balls???

I think Conner will have a short career because of the way he runs. And lots of fumbles, too

Once more, with stats as perspective... james conner has 402 touches in his career. His fumble rate is 1.2% thats about average... on run plays the nfl average typically hovers between 1.1 to 1.2 %... on pass plays closer to 2%... for all touches its around 1.7%.... he is chronically average in this area... guys like Adrian Peterson fumble much more per play.... yet yinzers gripe abot JC because they hold guys in absurd standards around here... standards set without perspective...

As has been pointed out - he doesn't fumble all that often. He's just done it a couple times in really unfortunate moments. Pay attention Brick.

235 rushing yards on the season is last in the league for a starting RB
