Well, if you listen to what Fitz said yesterday, he's is definitely considering this move going from a loser to a winner, our 0-2 start notwithstanding. And btw, he loves Coach Tomlin, whom he met several times down in Alabama and at combine. Told his mom he would 'absolutely love to play for Tomlin,' for whatever it's worth.

This is after the trade. He probably would say the same thing if he went to NE or KC. Before the trade when he didn't even know he was on the block. He complained about being moved around. So is he lying then (when he has no reason too) or is he just kissing up to the brass here now?

Or 3 was just glad to get away from that ****** team and now is moving forward with a new outlook.

Fitzpatrick was such a high-end, blue chip defensive back prospect last year - along with Derwin James & Denzel Ward - I never spent much time looking at him, knowing full well we'd never have a chance to pick him that early.

Just for ***** and giggles, I went back to check where he was ranked as a defensive back in the various expert mock drafts.

NBCSports: #3
M.Miller: #2
Mayock: #3
Reuter: #2
CBS: #2
SBNAtion: #3
WalterFootball: #1
Caruso: #3
Rang: #3
Arthur: #3
Fansided: #2
Mathbombs: #1

That, my friends, is a top-shelf defensive back the Steelers rarely ever have a chance to get their hands on. Unless they went full tank mode, which thankfully they never do. Or it would cost them an arm an a leg to move up that high, like they did with Bush this year.

While Bush cost them a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd in 2021, the Fitzpatrick trade came cheaper, with the 1st and 5th next year (while getting back a 4th), and a 6th in 2021.

All things considered, both moves landed us a top 10 defensive playmaker, but they gave up considerably less for Fitz than what they paid for Bush.

I'm glad we made both moves, that's how you plug gaping holes in your defense with top-shelf talent.

Now let's see how it all comes together over the next few weeks.

From another angle, here's where Fitzpatrick landed on the 2018 pre-draft player rankings (all positions):

Mayock: #5
CBS: #9
Brant: #10
ESPN: #8
Draftek: #6
Miller: #6
SI: #3
SportingNews: #10
SBNation: #3
PFF: #10

That's prime real estate. I figure you all know this...was just curious to see the actual rankings.

PFF now states he’s not a FS or SCB but rather a hybrid in the box Dime-back/SS, an average one at that. If you believe their BS evaluation method.

Another thing Fitz only had 3 missed tackles his senior year. But had over 16 last year as a rookie. According to certain individuals that is awful and is bust material.

Give Fitz time in one position, learn the D. Then use him as a chess piece.

It is. I'll make a little analogy:

He's like a USDA Prime piece of Prime Rib. And if our coaches can't put him in the positions he needs to be in to succeed, that's like putting Ketchup all over that Prime Rib.

I want this to work so bad. I really do.

Yeah, I don't buy any of that. He's got all the tools to be a great defensive back in this league. Just needs a little time to establish himself and become a consistent force. My hope is, in addition to Fitz working out just fine, is the positive effect this will have on Edmunds, to be paired with a heady, blue-chip safety. Perhaps this helps elevate his game as well and they become a great tandem for years to come. The potential is definitely there, they just have to go out on the field and make it work. Will keep my expectations low for this Sunday, as they'll have had only a couple practices together...we'll see.

A first rounder for a 11th overall pick. He's probably a top 5 talent given all the Qb's taken early that year. Only way this is a bad trade is if we truly do tank and go 4-12 AND something bad happens to the kid and he doesn't play much (i.e. Shazier). I like it and I like the message it sends that we are not going to do a Dolphinesque tank job.

Watch Kittle rape the middle of the defense, again proving they can't stop TEs

So they threw away two #1 picks, for nothing , lol, and still not a quality starting CB in sight

Because the LB's are busy chasing WR's.

Let me fix the defense, dump the 3-4, it was created to stop the run and the zone blitz design was to rush the QB with LBs.

The game has completely changed, blitzes get burned by QBs getting rid of the ball to spread offenses.

What u need is 4 stud pass rushing D linemen up front, of which we have NONE

Then u need shutdown stud CBs to play man, throw that whole 10 yd cushion **** this team runs out the window

LBs and safeties are second tier players in the new NFL, the Steelers are still drafting like its the 1980s lol

Well in 2 games in Miami that defense gave up 102 points and 650 passing yards, he has 0 passes defensed, 0 int's and 8 solo tackles.

So are you saying he's great because they aren't throwing to his side?

Maybe, but on that note, Edmunds only has 1PD, they must not be throwing at him either. ;)

I'm just pushing buttons.

I haven't see him play since he was with Bama. I'm not watching the dullphins. He was great at Bama I have no idea how he has done in the NFL. I'm sure someone somewhere has some stats about targets, catches ETC.. but I don't care enough to look it up. If he doesn't work out that just means another #1 draft pick wasted, just like Jones, Edmunds, Dupree, Burns, Hood, ETC...

But he's NOT Tombert's #1 pick so the odds of success are probably much better.

so now we are trusting the Dolphins brain trust over Tomlin? :waving:

Until the Fitz trade our best DB (Haden) came from the Browns, so there is that. :waving:

Everyone would be bitching if we didn't make a move....

Me??? I'm bitching cause all ya'll are bitching.......

The move makes more sense when Ben is healthy. It's makes less sense now but I'm still ok with it.
