Last season was a bitter disappointment. Lousy coaching, poor kicking, and a defense that had nothing close to replacing Shazier were the main reasons.

This year the defense seems to be better for three main reasons. Bush is a huge step up from what we have. Dupree is playing for a big-time contract and appears to be better motivated and focused on starting the season. Burns is now a role player, not a starter to be picked on.

We don't miss Bell at all. Helmet Brown? We might miss what he was before he became a distraction.

While Tomlin will blow some calls and fail to make adjustments, and Boswell will miss I'm guessing both will be a little better this season ( They can't be much worse )

Barring a key injury I see 10-6 in a suddenly weaker AFC where the Patriots have lost talent, the Colts lost their QB, and KC isn't going to sneak up on anyone.

The goal should be a playoff win. A 8-8 season or less and Tomlin should be fired, but that will never happen as the Steelers gave him an extension and Art II lacks a sack.

Do we have the DB's to beat the better passing teams when it counts? Probably not, but I do think the defense has improved a bit. Nelson > Burns and Bush is two steps up from any ILB we had last season.

10-6.
Pats****** at their place and two games on the west coast so that's three losses right there. We could potentially split with the improved Browns, Rats and Bungles will be worse and I can't see us losing to them. Shades can be counted on to lose two games that he shouldn't, so there's your six losses. Shades unleashes hell and does best the coaching job of his life, and loses in the second round of the playoffs instead of the first because, of course, they won't get a bye week.

I like the look of our revamped defense, the addition of Bush seems to be a game changer. If Tuitt keeps it up, this line could be one to be reckoned with all season. The addition of Steven Nelson is huge, really helps shuffle the pieces so there's a more equal division of labor, without any glaring weaknesses in the secondary. The key to it all coming together may be Terrell Edmunds. He can be the glue guy that holds it together against the pass & the run. Kameron Kelly, Hilton, Sutton and Artie Burns look like they can all help in the rotation. All in all, this defense looks better to me on all three levels.

Our offense is solid led by a veteran QB and very solid O-line. To me the WR's will be interchangeable, with JuJu of course in a lead role. But nothing like with AB who Ben force-fed the ball to at times. I love Conner & JaySam out of the backfield, McDonald too is an underrated weapon. The key will be cohesion and working in the new guys like Moncrief & Johnson.

I also expect improvement from the coaching staff with playcalling. I liked the addition of the xtra DB coach who'll be in the booth giving Tomlin a bird's eye view & helping w replays & challenges. The pressure will be on Keith Butler to really bring this group together playing as one. He seems to have the pieces required. They do have to improve on-field communication and getting into their sets quickly, doing a better job moving players on and off the field in between plays, etc. That's amateur stuff but it was an issue at times last year.

And finally, it may all boil down to the special teams. Is Boz back to his Pro Bowl form? Can Switz & Diontae provide a spark in the return game - hold onto the ball, not make stupid mistakes, break some big returns? And collectively can they do a decent job covering kickoffs & punts. That's why the addition of Gilbert & Skipper could have a real impact, adding that speed and athleticism on ST. The third phase is so underrated, it affects all aspects of the game, including gaining - or losing - momentum at key points in a game.

I see us winning 11-12 games and if healthy, making a deep push into the playoffs.

Until I see this defense actually play better I won't believe it is. We seem to have a bunch of talent but it never translates over. Is it coaching? Scheme? Both? Players underachieving? Maybe a little of all 3. Hopefully, it starts all coming together for us. If it does I will be on board with your 11 or 12 games also. :)

.......and hopefully a deep playoff run.

The defense will dictate the record, I want to be optimistic that it has improved, that is till I see we kept Burns, I had to get that in. Beginning of season schedule not to good 10-6

11-5

The **** stains concern me the most.

Prediction..we meet them in the playoffs.

There is no reason this team can't be 12-4. None. Ben gets you 8 by himself. If Boz is better than last year that's 4 more games. I'm not worried about the division. The bungles are bad, clowns aren't as good as people think they are, and the rats can't pass the ball. No reason not to win the division.

The **** stains concern me the most.

Sure they added some shiny new toys. Can they mold that into a cohesive unit? For instance, we know what Jarvis Landry's all about, how will he adjust to OBJ coming in & being the lead dog? They have more questions on D than we do, and I'm not sure about that O-line. I get it, they're the media darlings, the talk of the town. That's perfect, just what the Steelers need. Let everyone drool over the Browns, annoint them kings of the north. Nothing could be better for the Steelers than to be disrespected and underestimated. I prefer that over having it the other way around.

I like the Steelers for 11 wins, starting with the first win next Sunday night. If they can stay relatively healthy they can get 12 or 13. I might be in the minority, but I think this team is going to be better than a lot of people think. I wish they had kept Holton or Spencer over Switzer, but that is my only real gripe over the final 53. This team will have some growing pains with so many new faces, but as the season goes on the improvement will be evident. This is going to be a good season.

For me is how quickly the new pieces become cohesive. I expect the team to play more like one this year. But those new parts have to gel. I think 12 wins is obtainable. With two losses early and then they team full steam ahead. As long as they stay reasonably healthy this should be a special season.

12-4 regular season record.

There is no reason this team can't be 12-4. None.
Three reasons:
1. Mike Tomlin.
2. Keith Butler.
3. Danny Smith.

9-7 with a possible wild card spot (one and done if we do). If we have significant injuries, a losing season. I have no faith in our coaching.

Three reasons:
1. Mike Tomlin.
2. Keith Butler.
3. Danny Smith.

1. Tomlin could keep his nose out of everything and just look confused on the sideline. Just like he did in 08' when he let everyone do their jobs and he just was along for the ride.
2. If #1 happens then Butler can run his own defense and not Tomlin's 2 DL goal line defense then things maybe better.
3. They have been bad for years but if Boz kicks well this team is in the playoffs last year and probably wins 11 games.

IF they don't win this year then Tomlin should be gone (I know he won't be). You can't let this much talent go to waste forever. He's had the best RB, OL, QB, WRs ETC.. in the league for years and has squandered it.

Don't get me wrong, I think we'll win the division because our division is awful. I just don't have a lot of faith that Shades will win more than one or two playoff games. On the Steeler FB groups the fanboys always say that he's just behind Belicheat in winning percentage and that Hoodie feasts on a weak division too. I get that but the difference is that Hoodie wins playoff games and Shades for the most part does not. Since 2011 the Steelers have only had one bye week (in 2011) and in years when they make it they almost always sneak into the playoffs and rely on help from someone else. Meantime Hoodie gets that bye week almost every year and Shades is usually one-and-done in the wildcard game they backed into.
