The Steelers offense has truly transitioned from smash-mouth old school football to the new age of offense in today's NFL...

Like it.....or not?.....

Like the winning. Don't like today's pass-happy NFL. Give me a smash mouth running game and excellent defense any day.

Don't like the new NFL but if it gets the win... Better keep the run game tuned up in case the Steelers run into inclement weather.

As long as it wins games I'm good with it.

I don't mind bombs away offenses. The issue is going to be can they out "bomb" the pats* or Broncos?

Well I think the real issue is....can the D make enough stops (just like the freaking Pats did yesterday)

if the D stacks against the run, then pass like a mofo. When teams fear our passing game the holes will open for LeBackfield to take over the game

Most of the recent Super Bowls have been won by teams that played good defense, had a good running game and an efficient offense, there are exceptions, but defense and running the football have had the most success.

2014 - Seahawks
2013 - Ravens
2012 - Giants
2011 - Packers
2010 - Saints
2009 - Steelers
2008 - Giants
2007 - Colts
2006 - Steelers
2005 - Pats
2004 - Pats
2003 - Buccaneers
2002 - Pats
2001 - Ravens

There were some juggernaut offenses in there, but in some cases their defense was outstanding as well, Saints, Colts (their "D" carried Manning that year in the playoffs), and Packers, for what its worth.

We take what the defense gives us. Its a good problem to have.

Pap! Good to see you. Haven't heard from you since the Trib board. How many years ago was that? Then again, I thought you popped into this board briefly, some time ago. Nevertheless, welcome!

Take a deeper look at those teams.
2014 - Seahawks- Agreed, run first defensive team
2013 - Ravens- Nope, they fielded one of the poorer defenses in a superbowl this year, average at best and fairly injured late, and were a pass first team for the entire playoffs
2012 -Giants- fielded a bad defense and subpar run game with the 5th ranked passing game. look at the stats not the rep here
2011 - Packers Pass first team with a good defense
2010 - Saints Pass first team with a good run game and good defense
2009 - Steelers 23rd in the league in rushing, 22nd in passing, GREAT defense... won the superbowl with a passing offense
2008 - Giants Agreed, run first defensive team
2007 - Colts - Pass first offense, blah defense
2006 - Steelers Agreed, run first defensive team

I like an offense that plays to an opponent's weaknesses. Whether it is pounding the ball or passing it, I want the Steelers attacking their opponent and dictating the tempo of the game. They are doing that now with wild success.

I wish the would ******* run outside more. What is the percentage of runs between the tackles vs outside? Like 90% to 10%? Anyone know.

It's exciting but I'd rather be a great rushing team than a great passing team. That's because when you must pass all the time, it means the game is never safe. You must keep scoring.

When you run the ball, you can control the clock and the game. I hope the Steelers run game continues to develop. They are effective running in certain situations, but not in short yardage. When they can pick up 3rd and 2 consistently with a run, that is when this offense will really be great.

I like the Steelers scoring touchdowns. If they do so with Bell and Heath, or Bryant and Brown, or Blount and Spaeth matters not to me.

That said, it is important to have a very good running back. Teams want to go nickel and 2-deep on the Steelers? Yeah, get ready to be punched in the mouth. Bell forces teams to respect the run, keep a safety in position to stop the run, and results in single coverage for Bryant and Wheaton.

All I can think of is Air Coryell and all the sucess they had. But I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Much of that is true, however, nearly every team is a pass first team recently. I still stand by tha tthe majority of the winners played good defense and had a good running game regardless of whether they were pass first or not. Good stats though, sometime I just assume things because I've heard it and don't dig real deep.

I prefer us scoring 40+ and holding them to less than 10.

Hi yaz Pap, I see where you are coming from. What isn't considered is the recent rules / handcuffing of the defense. You are going to find MOST teams being a pass first team, for future reference. In 5 years, look back and you will see the trend, in SB appearances, inclining to the pass offense. My self, DEFENSE has always been my fancy, today it is becoming a thing of the past.
