Report: NFL Owners Suggested 18-Game Schedule With 16-Game Limit for Players

I don't see the need. They barely play the vets as it is. Preseason gives them a chance to look at the rookies and fringe players. Plus I am not in favor of yearly **** changing just to mix things up. They already screwed with an attractive model and gave the millennials a fantasy platform. At this point I am not sure anything else needs tweaking.
Cut the preseason from 4 games to 2. Yeah I know, ain't gonna happen.

Rog De La Fuher is trying anything to market a sport that needed no tampering done since he took over.

The nfl could’ve easily transitioned to any media outlet today based on it’s name alone. Thanks to ole’ Rog mahal though, new ideas are becoming desperate

A 17 regular season with two bye weeks, meaning they broadcast 19 regular-season games instead of the 17 they do now. I think the player could use an extra bye week

8 games at home
8 games on the road.
With the " 17th " being an international game or other city game in the USA that does not have an NFL team that is followed up by one of the bye weeks.

Roster expanded to 60 players, with all of them dressing.
Practice squad to remain the same size.

Dude, I likeall of this.

A major issue I have with the NFL rosters is the size. The NFL has came out and said their product is hurt when the best QBs are injured, yet they don't do anything to help teams develop QBs for long periods of time. And by that give incentive to pay the back up to stay in the same system for many years. Granted some QBs move around to take starting jobs, but the life long back up would probably benefit if he stayed with the same organization/coaching staff for 5-6 years, instead of playing for 2-3 teams during that span.

The neutral site game idea is interesting, especially in markets with no NFL teams.

Do the math. How many total snaps are there in a full four press-season game and 16 game season? To get to 17 games in the format I like, eliminate one of the pre-season games.

1st pre-season game, rookies, practice squad players and 1st-year players only.

2nd and 3rd regular pre-season games, with the 2nd game being the most important.

17 game season. 2 bye weeks.

The international or domestic game to expand your base when it's your team's turn to schedule one would be nice. I could see a Steeler game in Mountaineer Field, wouldn't that be special to the people in WV?!

I think most would agree that increasing the total roster and game day roster would be a decent idea

increasing the international games or having games at neutral sites in the US is ******* bullshit. The NFL makes enough damn money on games played at their normal sites.

Oh I think they know full well they are not getting an 18 game season unless major concessions are offered by the league/owners. Reduction in commish powers? More piece of the network pie?Elimination of the 5th year rookie clause? All game for the NFLPA to negotiate with. Don’t believe what De Smith is saying about a stoppage and setting up a war chest for the players to compensate. Neither side wants to miss out on the BILLIONS available.

I agree on neither side wanting to m is out on the candy BUT I don't think is will be as smooth as some think and that roughness will cause a shortened season. War chest or not, there is an amazing amount of things these players / owners need ironed out and you're not dealing with sound mind players of the past. You're dealing with the meMEme crowd of today & GREEDIER owners than ever before.. Just my two cents.

I don't understand the need for all the yearly tweeking. Leave the damn game alone. They've already done enough damage. Especially Rogers big international plan. It's an American sport, that Americans want to see. Stop taking games abroad and screwing the American fans.
Ya, racist on my part I suppose.

Not racist at all you like many others just don't want the game screwed with.Plenty of people come to the US to watch games. That option is always there for them..........

Does anyone know if the team playing abroad, that lost a home game, do the season ticket holders pay for that game as well???? I'd think NOT but with the GREED of the NFL, anything is possible. Why can't two teams both have away games that day???? Just a curious thingy

pretty sure the season ticket package is adjusted for the game the home fans lose.....but it still takes revenue away from the area that gave the team tax credits or special incentives when they built their new stadiums or moved to the location. Just so godell and the owners can make a few more bucks....

I've never liked the tax breaks for a new stadium or the "PUBLIC" contribution to building said stadium. It's a rip off to the public tax payer as owners are the true beneficiary of the whole deal. Money out of "Joe" taxpayer pocket to feed the Billionaire owner(s). GREED

not a huge fan of it either, but I think in the long run it pays off for the local area. Revenues generated by the game and the taxes on those sales plus visitors coming to the area to watch the games..it is an investment that pays off handsomely for the communities

So when does a team judge highly paid rookies talent and where they fit in a team. Yes preseason is hard to watch, maybe the NFL would be better off not showing preseason games and trying to hype up the ones the showcase on TV

I’m not in favor of 18 games, but if they wanted to keep playing time the same, they could change to 13 minute quarters. The games would take closer to 2:45 than 3:15, but the networks could use that time to switch over to games in sudden death OT or show highlights of the early games. The late games would go back to starting at 4:00 instead of 4:15, and night games would end a half hour earlier..
