Going year by year from the year Bud was drafted
NE Patriot First Round Picks vs Steelers 1st round picks:
2015 DT Malcom Brown vs LB Bud Dupree Both got starters that are solid - Push
2016 No Pick vs CB Artie Burns - A player who started for 2 years then regressed. Still a player is better than nothing. Slight edge, Steelers
2017 No Pick vs LB TJ Watt - Huge failure for NE to stay out of this draft in the first. Steelers get a pro bowler.
2018 OT Isaiah Wynn & RB Sony Michel vs S Terrell Edmunds. Wynn was lost for the season with a torn achillies. Michel is a very productive short yardage back who started 8 games and got better as the season progressed. Terrell was a rookie starter of 15 games. Odd for Belly to go after a RB in the first round, especially when this RB can't catch and isn't even a treat out of the backfield (12 targets on the season). Not a good pick when you have Brady looking for short yardage throws and this guy only gets 12 targets. Poor drafting strategy, and compounds since they skipped 2 years of first rounders to get these 'guys'. Steeler's edge
2019 WR N'Keal Harry vs LB Devin Bush - obviously unknown, I like Harry, big receiver, strong, though not as fast as a first rounder should be. On draft strategy alone, the Steelers won this draft by moving up 10 spaces into the top 10 to get the ILB they need, and one of the best ILB prospects seen in the past few years. Big win for the Steelers on draft day, but we'll see how they shape up.
Analysis: Pats have no idea how to draft in the first round...
I wouldn't limit it to the first either. Always trading to build up picks so they have a lot of options. They approach free agency that way too. Just pile them in and see what sticks.
When ol Ernie retires they will be an average team at best. I will enjoy that moment in sports history.
Yes I will.............
