Can Bud Dupree's crazy punching power translate to the field?

You can be a great athlete and a not so good football player. Hopefully something translates to the field, but i think it's more an instinctual thing he does not have

Since the boxing analogy has been mentioned, Dupree the football player is Anthony Joshua the Heavyweight prospect: Tremendous physical gifts and cosmetic quotient when they don trunks or gear, but ultimately "glass jaws" in the ring.

Joshua just got knocked out by a guy who looks like a beer truck driver. Not sure how many times Dupree has failed to even register in the stat line, but has been more than once.

No excuse with those measureables. He just doesn't "know" how to fight..

what about Vince soon to be looking for a position Williams?

And you thought Jarvis was slow getting to the QB? Put Vince at OLBer and sit back and wait...................and wait.

Still waiting? be patient he is almost there.

Just a little longer.

What time is it?

Vince had more sacks in the first part of the year that Shazier got hurt than Jarvis had in his career, i think.

But that was at ILBer. Take him and throw him outside with a longer path to the QB. The results would be vastly different.

Can Bud even hit the punching bag, or does he miss it wide?

He has one of those wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide right hooks that look great, but are slow and miss the mark entirely. Really easy to redirect out of harms way.

Grenades and poison darts.............

Don't sell BOXING short as its a tougher sport than any of these you've mentioned. The conditioning of a true boxer is probably one of the best / hardest tests there is. I'm NOT knocking anything you have said but Boxing is one of the OLDESt forms of fighting / self defense ever. It pre-dates most / all martial arts and actually most martial arts are based of of boxing. Don't watch the "Rocky" movies and think that is boxing because it is NOT. Hand speed / strength / endurance are all a part of it so I see it as a great benefit for BUD. One thing though,.............. I'm all for what eve will help Dupree become the best he will be.

Salute the nation

It's not about being tougher. It's being useful to your job. The best way to improve your football moves is to work on your football moves. With that being said I am a person who kind of follows Bruce Lee's mindset of taking what is useful to you and discarding what is not.

My focus is on Ola,Bush,Watt getting the job done.

Great, our 1st round OLB can throw a good punch...which is meaningless in football.

I'd rather read that he can bend his body as he rushes the passer, but he can't; just runs real fast past the QB, taking himself out of the play.

He's not better than a backup OLB, not good enough to be a starter, but they keep him regardless.

I've always felt kungfu and aikido would translate better to hand fighting along the lines on both sides of the ball. I'd figure wrestling and judo could come in handy as well.

Exactly. These guys show how it's done.

Right here you show how little you grasp. Bud is good enough to be a starter, he is a starter on rising NFL defense. No backups have unseated him. He improved last year. He isn't a star, but he is a capable starter.

Yeah, you wouldn't want your OLB to work on something that can increase his hand speed. No way that could translate....

That's not an example of either art..haha. I do love those Pink Panther movies.

Kungfu is rolling rotating speed. Aikido is speed with arm locks, joint manipulation and throws. Think Steven Seagal. Bud is like a train that always misses the station. Olya has shown way more ability in his very short amount of playing time than Bud. They're jusy paying Bud a dump truck more.

Now that i think of it I'd say wrestling would be the best for defensive guys because nobody can tackle worth a ****. You can throw in rugby too. Those guys do it with no helmet and don't lay down on the ground every other play with some boo boo

And that's all you aspire to for a first round pick? Pathetic.

That isn't how I aspire anything that just is the way it unfolds, not everyone can be a star. What is more important is the players being solid in their assignments, and working together as a team. What you think is pathetic doesn't matter as you don't matter.

Going year by year from the year Bud was drafted

NE Patriot First Round Picks vs Steelers 1st round picks:

2015 DT Malcom Brown vs LB Bud Dupree Both got starters that are solid - Push

2016 No Pick vs CB Artie Burns - A player who started for 2 years then regressed. Still a player is better than nothing. Slight edge, Steelers

2017 No Pick vs LB TJ Watt - Huge failure for NE to stay out of this draft in the first. Steelers get a pro bowler.

2018 OT Isaiah Wynn & RB Sony Michel vs S Terrell Edmunds. Wynn was lost for the season with a torn achillies. Michel is a very productive short yardage back who started 8 games and got better as the season progressed. Terrell was a rookie starter of 15 games. Odd for Belly to go after a RB in the first round, especially when this RB can't catch and isn't even a treat out of the backfield (12 targets on the season). Not a good pick when you have Brady looking for short yardage throws and this guy only gets 12 targets. Poor drafting strategy, and compounds since they skipped 2 years of first rounders to get these 'guys'. Steeler's edge

2019 WR N'Keal Harry vs LB Devin Bush - obviously unknown, I like Harry, big receiver, strong, though not as fast as a first rounder should be. On draft strategy alone, the Steelers won this draft by moving up 10 spaces into the top 10 to get the ILB they need, and one of the best ILB prospects seen in the past few years. Big win for the Steelers on draft day, but we'll see how they shape up.

Analysis: Pats have no idea how to draft in the first round...
