Best D in NFL history

Yea, but that same D playing with today's rules and interpretations? It wouldn't have been AS dominant. In those days you could kill the QB and WRs.

Icing on the cake. They also had...Burnett, McCrary, Sam Adams, Ray Lewis, Peter Boulware, Jamie Sharper, Duane Starks, Chris McAlister, Herring, and my favorite, Tony Siragusa.

I remember that year well. They were great but weren't the 76' steelers by a long shot. They had 1 shutout. There were 4 other teams that year that gave up less points. They were in the same division with Washington who beat them easily early in the season 23-0. When they met on the last day of the season the Redskins pulled their starters since they were 14-1 at the time. The Redskins had a better defense IMHO that year. The Steelers were #1 in points and yards. Having watched both I still think the Steelers,Bears and even Washington defenses were better.

So the better statement would be, teams now playing offense against that team then would have been killed by that defense due to the same rules and interpretations. Brady himself would have been out of the league in a year.

So, that is why me comment was appropriate. The 70's Steeler D was incredible and truly great. Just saying it wouldn't be quite as much in today's game. Nor would any of them on the list.

and no **** it would be very hard for the 76 Steeler D to do what they did now...the same as it would be impossible for the ******* that play today to score against that D with their rules in effect
 
76 Steelers hands down.
 
76 Steelers and a nice 6 year window of *** kicking I'll never forget.

Yeah, today's offenses against those real defenses would be a masscree of QBs and WRs. Those short passes wouldn't work because of the WRs getting blown up at the line or having their heads taken off after the catch.

They'd become alligator arms pretty damn quick.

There is even proof of that while James Harrison was in his prime era, teams had alligator arms agains those more recent STEELERS "D's".

So your (‘me’ is the improper use of words in your sentence, try ‘my’ instead) comment again is speculative since none of today’s offensives would hold up against the rules and interpretations of the game in that era.
